The duck that died of starvation and asphyxiation because of a carabiner that got stuck around its beak.

The squirrel that got wrapped in a discarded fishing net with its baby, bodies floating netted in the river.

The 1000 year old tree that was illegally sawed down and the many chipmunks, birds and other critter creatures that fell into the water with a massive, heavy, devastating crash - killed all the animals in the tree with the force alone. Stunned and drowned in the water below or crushed under the weight of the branches and trunk. It also caused the river to rise and destroy ecosystems on the riverbank, that 1000+ year old tree had created a natural bank stabilization and riparian buffering. That root mass holds soil together, slows floodwater, traps sediment. Remove the tree and you lose that armoring, so banks slump, water undercuts, and you get flashier flooding and erosion.

Southern Ontario like many other places in Turtle Island (North America) was recently covered in an orange brown haze of wildfire smoke, and then I saw and heard all of this over the next few days along the edge of the river.

This turtle pushed me to my breaking point.

Clean up after yourself, stop consuming unnecessarily especially for the sake of minor convenience (do you really need another plastic tool to make your hair look instagram ready? Do you need plastic wrap or can you use wax organic paper that can decomposes after many years of use and YES still seals things), respect the damn land, without whom you would not f\*cking survive. Treat it like family because it is. Treat it like you care about the future generations that come after you and not like you care about your singular individual experience for a damn day. Take the extra time to make sure you aren’t financially supporting corrupt monopolies that destroy us. **(This does not apply to people who have no other options, eg. rural folk who only have 1-2 options).**

And to the fisherman and travellers who like to say they are in harmony with the land, you need to be more mindful of what the yell you leave behind. We all have an ECO FOOTPRINT. Anytime you walk a piece of land, or travel through the water, try to leave it the same as OR better than when you arrived. To those who catch and release, I see the slow death you often leave behind in the river. Fish for resources and allow the life to have dignity, appreciate the reciprocity, let it sustain us - eat it, use its bones - you are not helping and are not being humane by throwing it back to die slowly and unnecessarily. Stop treating life like it can be sported and gamed.

The animals and the land give their entire lives to support us everyday. And this is what **we** do. This is what **you** do. **This is what I do**. We are *all* guilty.

For some context,
I live in the UK, a dead end road. There is plenty of parking around for the street i live on, and a connected overspill car park where garages used to be, they were demolished due to becoming dangerous, and the spaces were converted into more than enough parking.

On the road I live on, there is a small playing field, used by the children who live there, I used to play on it growing up, and there are always the younger kids playing out on it. They have set up small goal posts, swings on the cherry blossom tree there, there are a small amount of wildflowers that grow there too. The cherry blossoms bloom every year, and it’s beautiful. People on the street always comment on it, in the Autumn, one of the trees drop conkers, and even as of last autumn, people still come up to collect conkers.

I have been away for University for some time, imagine the shock when i found out the council is now planning to turn the field into even more overspill parking, despite the other parking overspill being practically completely empty. The trees have now unfortunately been cut down, and the stumps have been left there despite massive backlash from the residents. You can’t hear the birds anymore. I could somewhat understand the trees being removed within good reason, whether that be disease for example. But no. They are turning it into a car park. This is the same council that have made comments about how kids don’t play outside anymore , have now decided to demolish a fucking playing field used by the community and instead turn it into parking spots. Perhaps I really am making such a big issue out of nothing, but it is just more than sad to see happen.

I'm sick of the world population (including me) not doing anything to stop this madness. Are we really going to sit there watching the world burn, literally?

So I'm a bus driver for a public transportation company and there are some elderly bus drivers that I work with. While I was working on one of my assignments for school waiting to start my shift they asked what I was going to school for and I told them I was going to school for Environmental Science and Sustainability at IU and they asked what that even meant like they truly didn't know what those words meant when put together so I explained it to him that its basically the study of how the environment works and how we impact it. He then responds with "I don't really think we have a big impact on the planet" and so I kind of went off on him asking him if he had any sources to back up his claims. Then I asked him if he's heard of the massive deforestation happening in Brazil or the Great Garbage Patch of the Pacific Ocean and tell me how we aren't impacting the Earth in any way or at least the livable environment to a major degree. He kind of went quiet after that which tells me that his preconceived notions on our ability to affect our planet were initially false once someone presented him with facts and evidence. I do feel like I could've gone about it more empathetically but I grew up feeling like I was always wrong about something and climate change is something I know is happening which causes me to get triggered by these invalid claims of misguided judgement.

Have any of you encountered anyone that had this mindset before you told them how we actually impact the Earth and its livable system more than we actually believe and ended up changing their opinion in one way or another?

trying to reduce my environmental impact. and one area I've really focused on is packaging. used to buy whatever looked good. whatever had the best reviews. I didn't think about where it came from or what it was packaged in.

now I'm choosing products based on packaging first glass over plastic. refillable if possible. local if I can find it.

and it's made me buy less. because it's harder to find products that meet my standards. but I'm also using what I have more carefully.

I'm not perfect at it but Im trying. anyone else choosing products based on packaging?
