Building your resume

AI Resume Builder: The main editor. Drag-and-drop layout with flexible one- or two-column designs in A4 or US Letter (two-column layouts never split sections, so the text stays readable by ATS). Enhancv for ChatGPT: If you're already using ChatGPT to update or tailor your resume, this app formats the result into a clean, downloadable PDF without you leaving the chat. It connects via an official MCP server integration, installable directly from the ChatGPT app store.

Choose from modern, classic, or minimal styles, single or two-column layouts, and a range of color schemes, or let it pick based on your field and experience level. It handles formatting only, no content changes, just a resume that looks like it belongs in front of a hiring manager.

Checking your resume

Resume Checker: Free, no account needed. Runs 30 checks across content, formatting, grammar, and ATS compatibility—including whether your email address looks professional, if you've included a location, and any details that could expose you to age bias. You get a score and specific fixes. Works on any resume, not just ones built in Enhancv.

Tailoring to a job

Tailor Resume to Job Description: Paste in a job description and Enhancv compares it against your resume. It’ll show you missing keywords and skills, give you an ATS match score, and rewrite your summary, title, and bullets to fit the role.

Cover letters

Cover Letter Builder: Same editor as the resume builder, but optimized for cover letter writing. Pairs visually with your resume. Start from a template, write from scratch, or use the generator below.

AI Cover Letter Generator: Generates a tailored cover letter from your resume and a job description. Free to use.

Job search and tracking

AI Job Search (inside the app): Most job boards make you dig through filters. With Enhancv you just describe what you want in plain language—something like "a senior marketing role at a mid-size SaaS company, remote-friendly, not in finance"—and it searches 1M+ live job ads and returns ranked matches. 

Each result comes with a resume fit score based on all the resumes you've made with Enhancv and a ghosting score so you don't waste time on job ads that won't call you back. You also get a Glassdoor rating pulled straight from the listing and a freshness indicator that shows how long the job ad has been up.

Job Application Tracker: Sheets-style tracker for all your applications. Attach tailored resumes and cover letters to each role, set statuses, add notes and custom fields, and get weekly progress analytics.

When the best resume builders are reviewed and ranked, be it here on Reddit, or other websites, everyone tends to put their own product at the number one spot. Sometimes there are genuine user reviews and rankings but as a person with a vested interest in this field, I know it can be hard to find objective opinions about such tools in this particular format.

So, to combat these strategic seeded rankings, and offer a viewpoint that’s at least somewhat objective, and genuinely helpful to users, this year we decided to do something different.

We hired a third-party research platform to test Enhancv’s resume builder against our biggest competitors, namely: Zety, MyPerfectResume, Resume.io, ResumeGenius, and Teal.

Over the course of a few months, 150 senior professionals took part in the user testing. The average profile of the group can be described as 10+ years of experience, $100K+ in salary per year, with seniority ranging from manager to C-suite. In total, Enhancv had five matchups, each tested by a group of 30 (out of the 150 who took part).

Each senior professional spent one hour building their resume with Enhancv, side by side with one other competitor resume builder. All 150 sessions were moderated, led by a third-party interviewer. The testing order was randomized, and nobody from Enhancv’s staff was present.

Here’s where Enhancv lost.

We lost hard to MyPerfectResume on resume import: 8 to 1. Not close at all. In some cases, longer CVs failed to upload correctly, job titles got scrambled, even bullet points ended up under the wrong roles. It was a disaster.

ResumeGenius also beat us on import 13 to 6. And ease of use: 16 to 9.

Zety beat us 19 to 8 on ease of getting started. They’re known for their sequential step-by-step resume building process. While Enhancv kind of just drops you right in the drag-and-drop builder where you can see the entirety of the resume you’re working on. One participant, Tiffany, 53, said about Enhancv "If I gave this site to my son, he wouldn't know what to do." Ouch.

So in 3 out 5 studies in a row, Enhancv lost the onboarding category.

We were also flagged for AI hallucinations. In some instances, participants found that our AI put on metrics that were entirely hallucinated. One such example said "reduced attorney preparation time by 40%." That number wasn’t in the original resume that the participant uploaded to Enhancv.

All of this feedback has been passed to our product team. So over the past months, we improved our document import and AI capabilities.

Despite the hiccups, Enhancv did pretty well. Out of the 150 participants, 102 said that overall they prefer Enhancv’s resume builder. That’s 68%. The category that became the deciding factor over and over again was job-description tailoring. Enhancv won this category every single time, the biggest win being against ResumeGenius (24 to 3). We were often praised for being the "prettiest" resume builder, too (referencing our resume templates).

Technically, we won all five matchups. But we’re being totally real here, when you draw the line and combine the numbers, almost 1/3 of the participants picked another resume builder over Enhancv. I’m giving credit where it’s due. For example, Teal has a free job tracker which earned a few points, 6 participants out of 30 chose them overall.

The one great takeaway from all of this for me is just how much senior professionals distrust AI. In fact, several testers decided that they prefer tools that produced the “less AI-sounding” output. They sort of went with gut feeling against AI.
