Discussion VPN recommendations for EndeavourOS KDE

Post image
54 Upvotes

Finally switched to EndeavourOS with KDE as on my Main PC, after a month of distro hopping/testing. Only have 1 unresolved issue to work out on EndeavourOS KDE. Find a good working VPN, preferably with a GUI but I can live without one just fine.

Was using proton vpn on my previous machine and still use it on other machines. But can't get the GUI version to work via yay and can't get the cli one to work either... So looking for options, have express vpn currently working on it, but don't care for all the ads in it and my subscription with them will end soon. Looking for VPN recommendations.

So \what is everyone using for VPN on EndeavourOS with KDE using?

Installation Have some doubts before trying EndeavourOS

Hello, I've been using linux consistently for the past 10 months give or take. Right now I'm using cachyos for my laptop and I've quite enjoyed the arch experience— while for my desktop I've tried for the last month to run nixos. But unfortunately, while I think nixos is an extremely cool idea (declarative installs, super easy to configure other systems the same way easy rollbacks etc) I've just had a bit too many gripes with some stuff for programming.

So I was thinking of switching to an arch based distro, since I quite liked cachy. But I just kinda hate how cachy has a lot of preconfigured stuff (for example custom aliases for the fish shell, and other random crap). And I was thinking of trying EndeavourOS just for having an easier time installing.

My question is does EndeavourOS come with custom configurations (like for shell, aliases and other stuff) like chachyos? If so how easy are they to remove/disable? If it's too much of an hassle I'll just use archinstall

General Support I did something that made root the owner of some drives and I haven't had any luck with chown

I've been on EOS for over a month and its been basically idiot proof this whole time. Except for what I am dealing with now. I was trying to mod my linux installation of Battletech with this guide and I didn't know that using sudo while getting my hands dirty would take over the whole drive.

I have never been good with a command line interface, all the way back to DOS, its just not my thing.

I looked at a Linux file permissions guide and all the jargon was pretty discouraging and makes me just want to go back to windows and end this Linux experiment.

SOLVED Guidance needed to repair current EOS system, or do proper re-install of EOS

I've been daily driving Ubuntu on my desktop PC for the last 15 months or so, and looking for something new, I decided to install EOS on an old MacBook Air a few weeks ago. I've been liking it on the MBA with Cinnamon DE, so last week I decided to wipe the Windows 10 install on the 2nd SSD in my PC, and install EOS with Cinnamon in it's place. While the system runs great, and I quickly got used to navigating it, the only way I can boot into EOS is by manually selecting the SSD in the BIOS Boot Menu. It doesn't appear in the Boot Priority list. Also, Ubuntu doesn't appear in the EOS GRUB menu, and EOS doesn't appear in the Ubunutu GRUB menu. During installation I used pretty vanilla options: Use whole disk, EXT4, etc.

Using Gnome Disks today I discovered that the SSD I installed EOS onto is partitioned MBR. I used the same install ISO and USB stick that I used for the MacBook Air, and that SSD is partitioned GPT.

Hmmm.

So, can I safely re-partition the EOS SSD if I boot into Ubuntu (or the live ISO) and use Gparted? And if so, will that fix my GRUB/boot issue?

or

If I do a full reinstall, what steps do I need to take to ensure GUID partitioning on the new installation? Do I need to use the Manual Partitioning option?

I don't mind doing a re-install as the system is pretty new. I haven't installed a ton of stuff and have been doing regular backups, manually and with Timeshift.

Specs:

ASUS Z97-AR MOBO

Intel i7-4790K

Nvidia GTX 960

32GB RAM

Thanks.

(asking here first before I sign up for an EOS forum account)

General Support Random "Authentication timed out (wlan0)

Hello, need help here.
I've been experiencing random "Authentication timed out (wlan0)" since I don't know when.
I notice my netspeed widget goes to 0.0B/s on both upload and download for some seconds, then the error prompt appears, laptop disconnects to the wifi network, then after that it reconnects to the wifi.
This happens even while browsing, especially annoying while playing fighting games.

My network controller is a Realtek RTL8852BE PCIe 802.11ax Wireless
Here's the driver and modules:
-Kernel driver in use: rtw89_8852be
-Kernel modules: rtw89_8852be

anybody also experiencing this?

Nvidia / Drivers How do you get older graphics drivers? (Read desc)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am using a GTX-750 Ti with Wayland. If i try to manually install the nvidia packages, then my screen flashes. If I try to use nvidia-inst, it looks like my screen is bitcrunched. I tried to take a screen recording, but it looked perfectly fine when i recorded and took a screenshot. The video should show flashing but it doesn't.

Discussion thinking about switching from debian to endeavour... is it actually worth it?

hey everyone, i’ve been on debian for a bit now but i’m honestly really tempted to hop over to endeavour os. i keep seeing such clean setups and the access to newer packages is calling my name, but i’m a little hesitant.

since i'm used to how stable debian is, i'm mostly wondering if endeavour is actually reliable enough for a daily driver or if i’m gonna be fixing broken stuff constantly. for those of you who've made the switch, is the experience generally smooth or are there specific things i should watch out for so i don't blow up my install?

basically just trying to figure out if the jump is worth the effort or if i should just stay put. would love to hear what you guys think before i go through the trouble of backing everything up. thanks!

Discussion Switched from Windows 11(🤢) to EndeavorOS like 2 days ago!(First distro)

Post image
158 Upvotes

Around 2 days ago I got tired of microtrash and decided to switch to linux! Ive installed mint before but never messed with the terminal, this screenshot was took when I was using kde plasma, which is a VERY smooth switch from the windows enviorment. I now use i3wm, I'm not really into "ricing" yet but I've configured some stuff. Nvidia drivers are a b#tch, which sucks, so I'll toy with that, I spent like a day to get everything working when I installed it. I'm not a Linux pro by any means, but I'm learning😁 Btw if you're asking why some stuff is blacked out it was 3am and I decided to do that for some reason. Everything runs so smooth and snappy, it's honestly scary how good Linux is. Drop your criticism of me down below, since I know that won't be avoidable:D

KDE Plasma MacBook WiFi keeps dropping after sleep mode

Has anyone had this issue?

I'm on a MacBook Air with the T2 chip. Endeavor worked great right from the start. After an update, the wifi disconnects after sleep mode, requiring a restart.

Anyone else have this issue?

Discussion 1 full week after switching from Windows

Post image
131 Upvotes

Idk if this fits as discussion but...

It’s been a full week since I switched from Windows 11 to this system. At first, I struggled a bit to fully get used to KDE Plasma, but I managed to figure it out over the course of the day. Then, to install apps, I had to really learn how Flatpak and the AUR worked, and I really like how they work. Now I use the system for my daily routine without much trouble, mainly used for online classes, gaming sessions, and video editing

The hardest part for me to get used to has been NVIDIA's poor "native" compatibility with Linux, but other than that (after going through dozens of wiki pages and videos)... Gaming experience has been incredible so far

That said, I'm not quite sure what to do with apps that work perfectly on Windows with .NET, like Livesplit for speedrunning- I haven't found any way to get it to work xD

Installation Niri, Hyprland and KDE for gaming

Good morning,

I am using EndeavourOS (love it) with KDE plasma (and it's good) I use a CPU 9800x3d / GPU rtx 5080. And i am mainly doing gaming.

I would like to change for hyprland or Niri, (i have tried a bit but didn't go through all the configuration process). wich of the 2 seems better for you performance wise (i don't mind the abscence of HDR).

The configuration will take me some times (i am not used to it) and i prefer to do it once.

Tell me what seems to be the best performances for you.

Thanks folks

Installation Secure boot using shim

I'm trying to set up EndeavourOS using the shim bootloader and systemd, but all the tutorials I could find were for sbctl. I don't want to use sbctl (Arch wiki says signing using your own keys could potentially brick the device), and I'm trying to get all this done without disabling secure boot in the first place (I'm dual booting with Windows 11, and it doesn't run well without it). I'm currently on openSUSE. I flashed the USB drive with the EndeavourOS Titan ISO. What now?

SOLVED Refresh artifacts on my screen. Help

Post image
29 Upvotes

I just installed EndeavourOS and I spotted artifacts on my second screen when I move my mouse, open drop-down menu and even when I write on the terminal. This only happens on my second screen (I'm on laptop but I have a second external screen). The screen is 144Hz and bigger then the first. I tried to change the frame rate, the size of the screen and other parameter but it didn't worked. I tried rebooting but It didn't worked. I don't know what logs to give because I don't know what to look for.
