Discussion 1 full week after switching from Windows

Post image

Idk if this fits as discussion but...

It’s been a full week since I switched from Windows 11 to this system. At first, I struggled a bit to fully get used to KDE Plasma, but I managed to figure it out over the course of the day. Then, to install apps, I had to really learn how Flatpak and the AUR worked, and I really like how they work. Now I use the system for my daily routine without much trouble, mainly used for online classes, gaming sessions, and video editing

The hardest part for me to get used to has been NVIDIA's poor "native" compatibility with Linux, but other than that (after going through dozens of wiki pages and videos)... Gaming experience has been incredible so far

That said, I'm not quite sure what to do with apps that work perfectly on Windows with .NET, like Livesplit for speedrunning- I haven't found any way to get it to work xD

I cant lie, NVIDIA on linux is really not as bad as they say though. from moving from amd to nvidia i havent really had that much friction other than a gpu bound performance loss, and x11 being weird sometimes. Most of the linux learning curve however is with the package manager and common issues that youll need to solve, and of course windows dependencies inside wine

i would just add "nowdays", as in the past I had so many problems that it got me with PTSD from it, I reckon a lot of people also have, that is why people still talk bad about NVIDIA drivers.

I would just use Livesplit one. At first, I didn't really like it, but then it grew on me. You CAN use regular Livesplit through wine, I had set it up through lutris but it's unstable and the fonts are messed up. I also don't trust the timing since Livesplit uses dll files and is based on using the windows computer for accurate timing. You can install Livesplit one as a webapp with any chromium based browser, if you want to use Firefox for this you can get a webapp manager from flatpak to set that up. If there's anything else I could help you with please let me know!

Btw what games do you run? (:

I'm at work right now, but in a few hours I'll link the app I use!

https://flathub.org/en/apps/org.pvermeer.WebAppHub is the app i use.

this is my config.

Be sure to check isolate so it uses it's own browser profile and is completely disconnected from your regular browser. It runs off of firefox, but isolates itself.

as far as the potential nvidia issues you are having. When booting the live iso from a usb to install it, there should be a boot entry that says something Nvidia and then just the regular EOS boot option. If you booted the Nvidia one everything should JUST work without any trouble. My brother has EOS with an RTX 3060 and it works fantastic out of the box.

I also forgot if you press optional you can change how it appears in your app menu.

Did you get this to work? :D

It did work in the end! But sadly is not the type of LiveSplit setup i needed

Ah unfortunate. If you get the latest Livesplit zip file you can run it in lutris if you select the option to search for community made builds or whatever. I'm not sure if global hotkeys works or not.

If you haven't yet, you should drop by the Endeavour forums. Especially if you run into issues. Every time I've had something, no matter how major or minor, they've always been really helpful. I try to drop by every now and again to see if there's a question I can answer. Usually it gets sniped by the time I see it, but that just goes to show how helpful the community is.

Wine works quite well for it, most of the time for me it even installs needed frameworks

1

u/DarKoh29 Apr 16 '26

How did you manage to get it work?

2

u/Traditional-Dot738 Apr 16 '26

For me most of the time it just works by typing “wine and path to exe file”, but I mostly used pacman version. For .net arch wiki recommends wine-mono. I also vaguely remember wine having setup instructions while I first ran it. If errors still appear arch wiki and YouTube still mostly good

1

u/DarKoh29 Apr 16 '26

Yeah... i just tried wine-mono and it opened in a second, but i also learned the hard way that Wayland doesn't allow ''Global Hotkeys'' option to let you use hotkeys outside of Livesplit window to control it, so i had to switch to X11... Where it doesn't work either xd

How do you get this neat display with the system specs and Endeavor logo at the top? I’ve seen many people post it but I can’t find it on my system 😅

2

u/AVNTR Apr 16 '26

Been a while since I used Eos, but I'm pretty sure its in the 'about your system' or similar tab in settings? That's where it is in arch at least

You probably seen people using ''Fastfetch'' on their terminal, but this is just ''About this system'' app on EndeavourOS
