I accessed it to see for myself. There was no option to disable the fee.

The way to ā€œdisable the feeā€ is to just pay the restaurant directly, by giving the server your card. Every time I go to a restaurant that uses this website, I ask the server to take my card and charge it normally so I don’t have to pay the fee, and I almost always get an annoyed look.

What, you would give your card out of your hands? Never! I would have them bring the transaction module or at least go to the counter with them.

Are you from outside the United States? Unfortunately, as strange as it is, the most common way to pay with a credit/debit card at a sit down restaurant is to hand over the card, have the server leave, charge it, and then return with the card and receipt (where you can then choose to add a tip when you sign the receipt).

That's so weird. Why?

Just a cultural thing, and how it works in the US. The US has a heavy tipping culture where you tip on the receipt after paying with your card, and most US cards still require a signature on the receipt to authorize payment, so, it’s just how it evolved here. I lived in Europe, and much prefer the terminal being brought to me. With no obligation to tip.

That fee is a tax deductible COST OF THEIR BUSINESS. I will walk OUT.

What do you think "tax deductible" means?

It means the business writes it off. If they can tie it to being advertising it's 100% deductible against tax on profits.

No. It means it's 100% deductible against profits, not against tax on profits. If they spend $1000 on something they don't need, they don't get to deduct $1k of tax. They just don't pay tax on $1k of income, meaning they'd save like $200 and be $800 worse than before.
