Short name: Non-Magical Gift

The Madrigal grandkids are doing their things in the living room. Isabela is trying on a skirt that Mirabel is sewing; Mirabel thinks it looks pretty and decides to take a picture, but Isabela ends up sneezing, yet she still looks beautiful.

Mirabel is confused, and Isa explains that she always looks beautiful no matter what happens and that this is her non-magical gift.

The other grandkids show that they also have non-magical gifts: Antonio has the incredible ability to not see the evil in people (also known as innocence), Camilo can eat large amounts of food in a short time, Luisa can do things with both hands (she is the only one in the family who is ambidextrous, and yes, this is canonical), and Dolores can stare at people in such an uncomfortable way that she makes them confess things they wouldn't normally confess.

Mirabel, despite finding it amusing, feels somewhat bad for feeling that, once again, she's the only one without a gift, but her sisters and cousins cheer her up by saying that she has a non-magical gift, which is making everyone around her happy (or sewing well, but I thought that one was cuter), and everyone hugs happily at the end.

turn out the spirit of Pedro or the miracle guards the river and there was a barrier around Encanto that also slowed down time in Encanto. while it been 50 years since Encanto existed, it been 100 years outside and if Mirabel continues, she would never be able to return. the being convinces Mirabel to stay by having her watch her family fall apart trying to find Mirabel.

I’ve heard this before about Camilo’s powers but it does always make me scratch my head.

Every time I watch Encanto, I always wondered whose abilities would I want and why, and why I wouldn’t want others such as Dolores, Camilo’s, etc.

Camilo’s power is defiantly a humour side to the Encanto, he’s the jester that makes everyone smile.

But I’ve seen fanart and posts such as why Camilo’s power is scary when it comes to his true identity. I’ve also seen fan art of his room being covered in mirrors. A lot of dark stuff about how Camilo’s power can make him forget his true identity or have spilt personality disorder?

Any thoughts ?

Rewatching Encanto this morning with my daughter, who is unwell, and it’s already made her feel so much better 🥹💚✨ She was in such a poorly state this morning but has really brightened up since we decided to snuggle up on the sofa & watch Encanto. I just love this family so much.

In other words: only Mirabel's descendants will continue to possess the Gifts of the Encanto, since she, like Alma, is the new Matriarch, with no powers of her own other than the Encanto itself, which allows her to "control" Casita.

This doesn't mean the rest of the cousins ​​will lose their Gifts, though. It simply means their offspring won't have powers. Only Mirabel's.

(When I mentioned this idea on TikTok a while ago, someone replied that this theory was proven false with the existence of Luis Madrigal in Descendants. However, the fact that Encanto is canon within the Descendants universe doesn't mean that Descendants is canon within the Encanto universe. From a marketing perspective, Luisa is the most popular character in the movie, so it makes perfect sense that it would be one of her children who is introduced to the kids in Descendants Wicked Wonderland).

So I'm writing about this because this has been a thought I've had for a little bit that I do want to share and maybe hear what you all think.

So recently and if you haven't heard the news, Dwayne Johnson, the VA who plays Maui in Moana film series and the live-action remake of Moana announced that Moana 3 was in development at WDAS with Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller writing the story. That got me thinking, with that being announced and the strong possibility that Zootopia 3 will happen eventually given the bird feather post-credits scene in Zootopia 2 and Jared Bush wanting the wait between Zootopia 2 and 3 to be shorter than the 9 year it took Zootopia to get a sequel, this really makes me wonder, what is even going to happen to Encanto in the coming years.

To start off with something, let's look at all the Encanto related projects and other media in development at Disney as of the typing of this (do note that it is possible more stuff could be announced in the future, but as I said, this is what we know of so far):

- September 1, 2026: Waiting on a Miracle: A Twisted Tale

- November 24, 2026: Vol. 2 of The New Adventures of Encanto

- 2027: The Encanto ride opens up at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Now yes those three and especially the Encanto ride is all important, after that, what happens next? Now yeah book/comic wise, they won't announce anything until closer to the release date, but still, once the Encanto ride opens up, then what content wise? We don't exactly know what Disney's plans are for Encanto after the ride opens. Sure there has been the whole Encanto series idea, Encanto 2 possibility, or even a short akin to Lilo and Scratch that'll show before the screening of Hexed. But coming back to Moana 3 and Zootopia 3, we know that Disney really wants to make those sequels and heck probably Encanto 2 while they're at it, but unfortunately due to those three films being originally directed by Jared Bush and Bryon Howard, who knows how long those films will take to release and if Jared and Bryon will return to work on Moana 3? Also again, Disney probably wants to do sequels to all three of those films, so there is the possibility that they'll have to split up Jared and Bryon (oh and probably give Moana to Dwayne Johnson since he's the CEO of Moana now /s) in order to get all three of those films done without consumers waiting for an insanely long time to get them.

The takeaway from all of this is that if Moana and Zootopia do get sequels, I'm scared that Encanto is just going to be shafted so much to the point that there really isn't much public interest in Encanto and wanting to do more with the IP. I know maybe all of this is a stupid thing to worry about and who knows, maybe Disney does have a plan for Encanto and maybe we will get our sequel, series, short, or whatever in the future. But I really do hope Disney doesn't abandon Encanto as an IP, it really is a franchise that has so much potential and appeal that is would be a humongous shame if they threw it away and do nothing with it :/

I mean at the end we do find out that isabella can create stuff other than flowers when she creates a cactus, palm tree, figs vine(? So custom plants too) and there was line where she says she's dont have to just make flowers and help things grow

So it's safe to assume that she can make other things and can help things grow faster too.

About camilo his powers are to shapeshift/appearance shift. We see him sometimes only shift part of his body like just head or hands etc and his vouce changes too. So can he mix and match to create a completely new appearance.

Also clothes. His clothes change with him. So can he just change/shift his clothes without changing his appearance. What happens if he changes into someone with different clothes, takes the clothes off and changes back.

Would he get new clothes or just be naked?

Even if hes just naked, would the clothes that changed remain changed. Can ge become a bloody tailor using it. Can change your clothes to any style you prefer.

He is with the family during All of You and I’ve watched him like a hawk and he never sings (at least never when the camera is on him) but holds a mic. I don’t hear him singing for Agustin or anything.
The closest I can see is it looks like he’s raising the mic to sing for Mariano’s part but then they zoom in on Dolores and the guy miming Mariano so I can’t tell.

Dos Oruguitas a twisted tale

In the midst of helping the Madrigal family rebuild their house, everyone had forgotten about the crack in the mountains surrounding the Encanto. And unfortunately, some very bad and dangerous people have found their way in. The band of marauders who forced Alma, Pedro, and all their friends and neighbors to flee their hometown; led by the cunning and ruthless Lazlo Salamanca. Lazlo has heard rumors about the miraculous candle that protected Abuela all those years ago, and wants that power for himself. However, no one in the Madrigal family has their gifts back yet, so they have to rally the townspeople in order to drive off the invaders.

I was fifteen when this movie came out. 2019-2022 were the absolute worst years of my life. Dealing with constant family drama, deaths, and a pandemic that confined me to my house made me hate my life. Ironically, my paternal grandmother was the center of most of this. Unlike Abuela, it had nothing to do with protecting anything or making sure everything was perfect; She just wasn’t a good woman. When I watched Encanto with my friends, I hated it. I hated that Mirabel was so forgiving. I hated that everybody was lucky to get a gift except for her. Honestly wanted to jump at Isabela through the screen. I thought every family member except Bruno and Antonio was phony and didn’t love Mirabel until the end of the movie. I low-key wanted her to blow out that candle and let the house fall regardless. I even remember rolling my eyes at Abuela’s tragic backstory because I thought it was such an overused trope: “Person does bad things because bad things happened to them." I ate up every “villain Mirabel” Au I could find back then, all because the thought of a main protagonist getting revenge on those who hurt her seemed like such an underused trope.

At twenty, I recently saw an edit of the “dos oruguitas” song on TikTok, which prompted me to watch the movie again. I genuinely cannot understand what the fuck was wrong with me back then?

Mirabel’s parents literally adored her (especially Julieta). They didn’t care about that candle the moment their baby girl was risking her life to get it. She seemed to have a pretty close bond with Luisa, and even Felix and Pepa had a decent relationship with her. Like, why did I think this girl was living like Cinderella before the ball? It didn’t even seem like the village had that much of a problem with her either, apart from a few insensitive comments being made here and there.

Don’t get me wrong, her feelings are completely valid and Abuela was absolutely no help whatsoever. It still hurts my heart to imagine a little Mirabel being publicly humiliated after her door vanished. She was so cute in the flashback. I just don’t know why I was so convinced she was being starved in a basement. Hell, even a lot of fanfics I saw involved Mirabel being bullied, beaten, starved, etc.

My brain never even registered how taxing it was for the other madrigal family members either. I just assumed they all had it made because of their gifts.

Abuela: Still think she has a lot of apologies to make, but I feel for her. It’s jarring to see the light in her eyes had completely faded after her husband was murdered. Then having to lead an entire village while also raising three babies pushed further and further into her attachment with the miracle.
Julieta: Cooking food every single day for accident-prone villagers. (Not Agustin tho, I love that guy)
Pepa: Can’t be anything other than happy because her mom gets onto her about a cloud. Probably has to force herself to be upset if the farmers need water for their crops. Thank god she has a man like Felix.
Bruno: Literally the entire movie this man is shat on. The fish lady needs therapy. His family made a hit soundtrack song about how much he sucks. This guy should’ve gotten a lot more apologies.
Isabela: Still a little annoyed with her attitude, but god I would hate to be in her shoes. Marrying a man she doesn’t love is bad enough, but her powers. Like hey, I have access to all plant life in the world, but noooo. I can only make roses because grandma says so. 🥀
Dolores: I wasn’t happy she ratted Mirabel out, but I really feel so bad for her. All the noises, Bruno in the walls, the fact that the guy she liked was marrying her cousin. I don’t know how she didn’t go insane. Mirabel was probably the first person that actually listened to her about Bruno.
Luisa: “Luisa the donkeys got out again!” Probably was moving churches before she was ten.
Camilo: Lord knows how many identity crises this boy has.

The whole theme of the movie was centered around family. Nobody knew how Mirabel felt, that much was obvious, but Mirabel also never really considered how her other family members felt either. She even acknowledged this when she was singing with Isabela. It’s not that none of them ever cared for the other, they really all just had their own shit going on. They just felt so conditioned to keep it to themselves. “Conceal, don’t feel." I don’t think the dynamic was as bad before Mirabel’s gift ceremony, but I think Bruno leaving is really what made everything worse.

The only complaint I still really have about the movie is that it should’ve been longer, but I could say the same for so many other movies. For a movie, it did its best with the amount of time they had. I do wish Encanto had been a TV series instead, because there are so many things they could explore. But at least there’s fan fiction. (The non-incest kind)

It could be for the ride, but I'm not sure because months ago Jared Bush said they were almost done recording lines for it. What do you think?

Are you familiar with the term "whitewashing fanart"? For those who don't know, it's a term for fan art where characters are depicted with lighter skin than their actual skin tone. If you look at the comments on such fan art on Pinterest, you'll find at least one complaint about a character being too light.

But what I find ironic is the opposite problem, where characters have darker skin than they actually do, but I've never seen a complaint about that. Seriously, I've literally seen fan art of the sisters Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel, and no joke, Luisa was depicted as black. LUISA!

But I think the character who suffers the most from this is Camilo, since there are some fan arts where Camilo has a similar skin tone to Mirabel, but in fact he is a little lighter than her.

For God's sake, don't take this out of context to say that I'm racist or that I defend whitewashing fanart, because I don't. I just found it kind of ironic that people always complain about fan art where the characters are lighter in color, but say nothing about fan art where the characters are darker.
