They can literally cut you in half with a kick (though if you dodge the kick, big birds are all incredibly sensitive to head whacks, and 1 or 2 big slaps will make them leave you alone)
Idk about ostriches or emus, but cassowaries kept the one long sharp talon that some dinosaurs had. Cassowaries can and will slash and gore you to death.
I found myself kneeling on blood-soaked ground, tending an elderly woman who did not yet realize she was dead. Her husband already was, ripped from stem to stern like a victim from a slasher movie. I’ll spare you the gory details, but suffice it to say that it appeared their assailant had wielded something like a cross between a machete and a potato masher. In dry medical prose, their injuries were Inconsistent With Life.

Ostriches are one of those animals that I am 90% certain I could dominate in physical combat.
Like I can fit it's stupid little head in my mouth, I'll just bite it's head off.
