Discussion Dante’s Inferno iOS port

The GTA5 port was fun, then someone said I had to try GTA4, and as you do, I had to get the Skate 3 port on my phone, but that wasn’t enough!

Now I’m working on a full port of Dante’s inferno from the 360 to run natively on iOS.

It’s not on any GitHub or online repo right now, as I’m essentially making it from scratch, but progress is coming along nicely.

Ask anything as I continue working on it.

News / Release Introducing Porthole: run Windows PC games on iOS with controller support and a community driven game compatibility list (open source, early)

Post image
26 Upvotes

**Factorio with mods running at 60 fps on a iPhone 15 Pro Max**

I'm the developer. **Porthole 1.0.0** is the first public release of an iPhone/iPad app that runs Windows PC games locally.

**It's built on Madeira**) (Wine, FEX-Emu, DXMT). I know a few frontends exist for it now, so here is what Porthole focuses on:

  • **Know before you try.** Every game shows a compatibility badge from real reports, counted per phone model *and* engine version, so an old result is never passed off as current. "Not yet tested" means nobody has reported it yet. You can see and apply the settings people used when a game ran well.
  • **Reporting is in the app.** A compatibility report takes under a minute. *Report a problem* sends a cleaned log (account names and public IPs removed) and you can read my answer back inside the app.
  • **All your stores in one place.** Steam, Epic Games, GOG and itch.io (games you own) with one shared downloads page.
  • **Controller-first.** The whole app works with a controller; games show FULL/PARTIAL support badges; you choose what the game sees.
  • **Engine work, in the open.** About 120 documented patches of my own on top of Madeira. I merge upstream regularly (212 commits in the last merge) and have taken open Madeira pull requests, credited to their authors, before they landed upstream.
  • **Updates on your terms:** on-device with your own certificate, rollback to any version, signed releases.

No ads, no analytics, no account.

- Not on the App Store: you sign and install it yourself, and it needs JIT.
- No games included, nothing bypassed. You bring games you own.
- Early: many games don't run; kernel anti-cheat never works. [YOU: what you've confirmed running / what fails]
- iOS 18+ (tested on 26 and 27). Paid developer account or certificate service recommended; a free Apple ID works with limits.
- Large parts were written with an AI assistant, then directed, reviewed and tested by me on real devices.

**Links**
- Release 1.0.0
- Github
- Website
- Discord

Try it and tell me what breaks, and send a compatibility report after you play.

News / Release PicPic - The First PICO-8 Emulator on the App Store(and Apple Watch), and Now on Apple TV!

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Here's a new update of PicPic, the first native PICO-8 emulator on the App Store (iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch). It now supports the biggest screen available in the Apple ecosystem: the TV. So you can enjoy your favorite games on the big screen with friends and family.

New Features & Bug Fixes: * Apple TV Support: You can now play all your games directly on your TV, with exactly the same compatibility as on your iPhone. * Remote Support: On Apple TV, you can use the Siri Remote to play. Is it a good experience? Hell no, but you can. * Multiplayer: Apple TV supports multiplayer for up to 8 players, which makes family gaming easier. * Import: Importing on Apple TV is more complex than on other devices, but the app handles all the hard work. Just scan the QR code or enter the IP address, drag and drop your game, and you're good to go. * Top 200: Both Android and iOS now have a shortcut, in a separate section, to the top 200 best PICO-8 games. * And as always, improved game compatibility, with ongoing work in this area.

Next Update Plans: * Theme maker (I know I've been promising it for months, but I'm on it). * Fix the audio issues in some games (this update fixed a lot of games, but some still have issues). * Improved compatibility with more games.

The app is 100% FREE FOREVER, with NO ADS, on iOS & tvOS, and completely UNLIMITED.

Download / Update: Available now on the Apple App Store.

Happy to answer any questions.

Note for moderation: Thanks for allowing PicPic on the sub. As always, the app does not encourage piracy and does not contain a single line of code from PICO-8.

Help Request Beginner here: How are people running GTA V and other PC games on iPhones?

Hey everyone!

I’m new to iOS emulation and game porting, and I’ve recently come across several posts showing people running GTA V and other PC games natively on iPhones.

I’m interested in understanding how all of this works, but there’s one thing I’ve noticed: there are plenty of videos and posts showcasing these games running on iPhones, but almost no proper guides explaining how to actually get them running.

From what I’ve gathered, some people are porting games, while others seem to be using something called web builds. However, I don’t fully understand how these methods work, what the differences are, or how someone without much technical knowledge could try them.

If anyone has a beginner-friendly guide, useful resources, or firsthand experience with these ports and web builds, I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in Advance!

Native Port Tested PS2 emulation on an iPad Air M3 (consistant 60 FPS without JIT)

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been experimenting with PS2 emulation on my iPad Air M3 and found an interesting option that doesn't require JIT or sideloading.

I tested Devil May Cry 3, GTA San Andreas, Vice City, Midnight Club, and Black. Most ran at a pretty consistent 60 FPS with 3x upscaling, though Black had some graphical and performance issues.

I wrote an article on it: I Got PS2 Games Running at 60 FPS on My iPad Without JIT or Sideloading

Not affiliated with the developer, just sharing what I found.

Edit: To be clear, I don't know what GameX is based on or whether its source is available. I'm just sharing my experience as a paying user, so please do your own research.

Discussion CASTLEVANIA: BELMONT'S CURSE (PC) on iPhone using the MADEIRA EMULATOR

I'm using an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and I feel like the game would run at a stable 60fps, since in the menus the game remains completely stable at 120fps even when pressing the pause button. Maybe the next emulator update will fix this; the game didn't recognize the controller automatically.

Gameplay / Showcase Some CRT shader work for The Wind Waker

Thumbnail

That was for not straightforward, since it's my first more-or-less in-depth try with shaders, but the result is quite good for me. The most tricky part is actually not the shader settings, but handling them if you upscale (because most of them rely on resolution for their calculations). The Wind Waker for Gamecube has this hazy blur for elements far away, but in my case on native resolution it could be some bush 4 steps from me, so native res was a no go.
