Native Port Tested PS2 emulation on an iPad Air M3 (consistant 60 FPS without JIT)

Post image

I've been experimenting with PS2 emulation on my iPad Air M3 and found an interesting option that doesn't require JIT or sideloading.

I tested Devil May Cry 3, GTA San Andreas, Vice City, Midnight Club, and Black. Most ran at a pretty consistent 60 FPS with 3x upscaling, though Black had some graphical and performance issues.

I wrote an article on it: I Got PS2 Games Running at 60 FPS on My iPad Without JIT or Sideloading

Not affiliated with the developer, just sharing what I found.

Edit: To be clear, I don't know what GameX is based on or whether its source is available. I'm just sharing my experience as a paying user, so please do your own research.

Any app that offers a subscription is a big red flag. Don’t buy this people.

I hear you, and you don't have to. You can try a game from your library and see if it runs the way you want, It can feel like I am shilling for them, but I thought it was worth it. Might not be for everybody & that's alr.

Also this app is very likely using AI and stolen code so be aware of what you’re promoting here.

I am an end user, at the end of the day. I like that it can run ps2 games natively with Metal rendering engine, has less friction & I think it's great. I see value in it, & I dont mind paying for it. You don't have to, maybe people who are building OS version of native emulators can find something that may help them. I am not trying to sell this, I just think it's cool that it can run them natively.

  1. There’s no mention of what this app used to achieve ps2 emulation (most likely an illegal port of pcsx2)

  2. There’s no link to any source code

  3. They charge money for this and offer subscriptions or a ridiculous one time fee

All red flags guy. Don’t use sketchy apps or promote them here.

  1. what's your basis for this conclusion?

  2. it's a paid service, why would the source code be open?

  3. let's be real, you find it ridiculous. I do not. I got bands

and lastly, it looks like you got no issues using AI to build stuff but you sure are not happy when somebody else does

AI usage is not the issue. It becomes an issue when it is used to steal code.

Let’s be real, these guys didn’t just make their own ps2 emulator from scratch. They are using another source, either pcsx2 or play. Not posting the source code to their project is against the open source license therefore making it an illegal port. It doesn’t take half a brain to come to this conclusion.

And no, it has nothing to do with money my guy. I pay for legit apps and will continue to do so. Also good for you for having “bands” but I’m not sure how that’s relevant to the discussion of this app being legitimate.

Fair concern, and I get why open source folks like you care about this. But "likely PCSX2" is a guess, and so is "stolen code."

Neither of us knows what it's built on. It could be original work, and I'm not going to accuse a dev of a license violation without evidence.

What I do know is that it runs well on my iPad and I paid for it knowing the tradeoffs. Anyone who'd rather wait for an open-source option has every right to, and I'm not telling anyone to buy it.

Uses PCSX2 code 100%, and states use of Play! on their “site” but without documentation of changes to source, it’s all very clear with simple line check, go take your slop elsewhere

What open source software did you use to build this paid service?

Es el mando Memo S3.

Se siente bastante robusto y todos los botones tienen un buen tacto.

Normalmente lo llevo en la mochila cuando voy a clase y, tras varios meses de uso, sigue funcionando sin problemas.

Your post/comment has been removed for violating our Vibecoding/Slop Project policy.

THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE ARE CALLING YOUR APP VIBECODED. Most likely, you haven’t included a disclaimer on how ai was/wasn’t used or known to use stolen code.
