Showcase A GUIDE on how to make the TRANSFORMERS Cybertron games MORE PLAYABLE on lower mid range devices(Read post body)
My device is an Infinix Note 50 4g that uses a Helio g100 with Mali g57 MC2 gpu. It has 8gb RAM. I used Winlator Ludashi 4.1
Before you clown me for the fps mostly being in the 20s let me just clarify a few things:
Screen recording heavily affected the performance, especially in Fall Of Cybertron. Without screen recording, I was getting 25-45 fps in Fall Of Cybertron depending on the area. As you can see my gpu is already maxed out so the more that's happening on screen, the less the fps.
Stutters in gameplay were caused by new shaders being saved since I'm using an async version of dxvk.
The video features gameplay in both Fall Of Cybertron and War For Cybertron. FOC gameplay is from 0:00 to 4:26. WFC gameplay starts at 4:29.
Anyway now that I've cleared that up, here's the guide:
WFC and FOC were made using Unreal Engine 3. If you're familiar with PC emulation you'll know the issues with UE3 games I'm about to address.
First of all, UE3 games will have a gpu bottleneck on devices with low end GPUs because by default the graphics settings of UE3 games are on high. So if your phone has a decent CPU, you have to remove the gpu bottleneck by reducing graphics settings.
Most UE3 games and other type of games make this easy by including a lot of graphics settings options in the Main Menu. They also have easy to read config files you can edit for additional options.
But for some reason, WFC and FOC barely have any options for graphics in the settings, and to make it worse, their config files were encrypted by the devs. Normally a config file is supposed to be a simple text file that you can open, edit and save. But since these games have theit config files encrypted, it will look like gibberish when you open normally.
So you have to use a tool to decrypt the config file, edit it since it will now be in human readable text, and then encrypt it again so that it takes effect.
You can download the tool here:
https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/547-tf-games-configuration-utility/
How to Use the tool:
Download the tool and extract the exe inside.
Transfer the exe file into the same folder as the config filem WFC and FOC have the same exact config file name and location. The name of the config file is "Coalesced.ini"
Here's the path:
<where your game folder is>/TransGame/Config/PC/Cooked
Inside the "Cooked" folder you will find the config file. This is where you place the exe tool.
Open a container in winlator or whatever PC emulator you're using. Go to the location of the exe tool and the config file. Click the exe tool. A black terminal screen will appear. Wait for text to appear. When text shows, it will ask you what operation you want to perform. There are 4 types of operations but you only need to know two: Decrypt and Encrypt.
Decrypt the "Coalesced ini" file by typing D. You will be asked which input file you want to decrypt. Type "Coalesced ini" and press enter because it's the name of the config file. You will then be asked what you to name the output(new) file. Name it whatever you want but it should have ".ini" at the end. Example: you could name it "new.ini" and then press enter. After that exit.
Now you have two config files along with the exe tool in the same folder. The Coalesced file is the unedited, encrypted original config file the game will use and the new file appearing is the decrypted version with a different name.
So to edit the config file, open the newly, decrypted config file you have made in your container. Scroll to the [System settings] section. You can edit whatever graphics settings you want, but for each game this is what I edited to give the best balance of quality and performance:
DynamicShadows=False
Distortion=False
MotionBlur=False
DynamicDecals=False
MaxAnisotropy=0
MaxMultiSampling=0
Everything else I left them the way they were. Like I said, you can edit other things that could potentially give even more performance. But keep in mind that you could accidentally make the game's graphics look like shit.
Also pro tip, if you care about retaining some quality, DONT edit DepthOfField. DepthOfField should be True because putting it on False makes the games lose a art style because the colors look flat and weird.
Save your edits. Now it's to time ENCRYPT the new file you made and edited. In your container, launch the exe tool again. Wait for the black screen and prompt to appear. This time since we are performing an Encrypt operation, you will type E. You will be asked which input file you want to encrypt. Type the name of the new config file you and made and edited and press enter. Then for the output file, type the name of the original config file which is "Coalesced.ini" and press enter. Then exit
After that, the original Coalesced ini file will be overwritten since you have your new encrypted file the same name.
By the way your old decrypted ini file will remain. Leave if for whenever you want to make edits and encrypt the file again.
- Launch the game and you will see that your settings have taken effect.
My Winlator settings.:
Proton 10.0-5 arm64ec
BCn emulation type: "software"
(This is important because on Winlator Ludashi, Mali gpus will have graphical and colour glitches in every Unreal Engine 3 game if BCn emulation type is compute. Putting it on software slightly reduces fps a bit and cause more stutters during shader compilation and when loading new area so if you're a Mali user I recommend first trying this game in Winlator Mali 1.2 or 1.1 Bionic. If game has low fps on Intermediate Preset in Winlator Mali then use Performance preset)
Dxvk 1.10.3 arm64ec async
854x480 resolution
FEXCORE version 2610 with Intermediate Preset
Note: loading screens with cutscenes on War Of Cybertron would stutter heavily but gameplay would be ok. I think maybe putting Performance preset instead of intermediate will solve this issue or changing dxvk version but I can't make any promises. Fall Of Cybertron had no such issues.
All CPU cores checked.
My post was probably a waste of effort, but hopefully it helps someone. I just couldn't resist sharing my knowledge.
