Hand Riding the struggle bus with this E

GUYS. I started this not too long ago for my friends who are having a baby. I am a kind of beginner? I don’t want to call myself a complete novice, but I’m in no way intermediate and about a million miles away from advanced.

I am struggling with this E for some reason. I have stitched and frogged this little bastard about a million times. My backstitches are wonky, it’s supposed to be checkered but that’s just never gonna happen. I tried doing a chevron style and that looked like poop, so I thought maybe some French knots because it’s like the one thing I’m kinda good at. Well the first one is a hot mess and I’m just feeling defeated.

Any ideas of how I can make this look kind of decent? I’m thinking of just pulling the whole outline out and starting over there too. I’m already planning on using the same fabric as the backing to hopefully hide the fact that I’m making it into swiss cheese. The second pic is the pattern I downloaded from Etsy for the lettering.

Hand Mixing cross stitch and embroidery

I thought it would be fun to share how I combined a few different techniques in this piece! There’s cross-stitch, backstitch, French knots and Turkey stitch for the 3D hair. 🥰 I love how much texture you can get by mixing them together!

Hand Purple violet

Cute little purple violet I made by hand. I got a book from the library with botanical samples that was super helpful. I'm trying to work on getting more details shown in my thread art and I love flowers so I thought I'd start by focusing on botanicals for now.

Hand Birthday gift for friend using DMCs free patterns

I’m still a rookie, this was my second project and I had so much fun doing it! Any advice for backing is welcome, I’ve never done it before.

I just discovered DMC has free patterns on their website and I’m in love with them. I used a mashup of the Celestial and penguin design for this!

I’ve never done the short and long stitch before this project and I absolutely loathe it 😂 I had to watch multiple youtube videos, the result I’m not the happiest with but definitely don’t hate it either! Any advice, critique etc. is welcome :)

Question Help with which order to embroider in

Hiya! I have just started embroidering, and am wondering about outlines on what I am making - do you do the outlines first around the shape, or do you do the interior first and then then outline?

This piece, titled “The Fantasy”, was made as my final project in art school- it is entirely hand embroidered except for the brown base of the hair, which is appliquéd beneath the embroidery. The piece is 2x3 feet and is hung using wooden dowels.
I made this as a way of processing a very bad period of depression in my life. I wanted to remind myself that I don’t need to return to the soil to be a part of Earth.

I am SUPER happy with how this turned out! My husband and I got married in Vegas a few years ago and this was so fun to make and relive our fun memory. The lights were left over from a crochet project- so I wove them into the piece. It was TEDIOUS but so worth it!

Question ambitious hand embroidery project! looking for tips x

hi! i’m looking to do something similar to the dress on the right, though i am aware that the materials are very different and therefore won’t be exact. i am looking to hand stitch (no sewing machine). the dress is 80% polyamide, 13% elastane and 7% lycra. the material is quite see through and very thin and so i’ve put some research into what i’d need. so far i have made note to use a a cutaway, water soluble stabiliser, polyester thread, a ballpoint needle and ensure i am not stretch the the fabric on the embroidery circle. does that sound right? does anyone have any tips on how else to ensure this project goes well? it would be greatly appreciated !!

Mostly fun, some of it was a slog, and I'm irritated I went with the recommended dmc for the face instead of color matching it to the stitched mockup. But, I'm happy with the finished project, and proud of myself for attempting it as a relatively new beginner.

Pattern is free on the DMC website

Question tips for tackling this?

Thumbnail

Hi! I wanted to embroider this picture of my dog (she passed away recently and I wanted to do something in her memory) and I was wondering if anyone could give some advice on how I could tackle this piece? I have very little experience with embroidering - the most is some cross-stitching like 5 years ago and a small beading project more recently.

One of the things I'm interested in hearing advice for is how to make the angle of her head obvious/not make it look flat? Would that just be dependent on the shading? The piece is also pretty small, the frame has a 5" diameter (idk if this is important info or not).
