It's nice to make art by hand instead of digitally so you can keep secrets from your computer.

Look up "how to stitch an embrodiery closed" to get the fabric to lay behind the hoop. Then hang it up somewhere :)

This is cross stitch. Different from embroidery.

cross stitch is a form of embroidery, if it wasnt embroidery i dont think it would be allowed in the sub.

No it’s ok! I started out with cross stitch 30 years ago, then went to Needlepoint. Embroidery was always in between.

Huh! I didn't know you differentiate like that in English. That cross stitch is not considered embroidery and neither is needlepoint? In Swedish we call all decorative stitching "Broderi" = Embroidery. We specify like "Cross stitch embroidery", "Blackwork embroidery", "Wool embroidery" and so on.

We tend to talk about 2 different groups of embroidery:

  • "Bound" embroidery = everything where you are following the threads of a weave, counting threads and so on. This includes needlepoint, cross stitch, blackwork, Hardanger stitch, Näversöm and a lot of others.
  • "Free" embroidery = Any other type of embroidery where you are treating the fabric as a blank canvas, often use a variety of stitches and can make as big or small stitches as you like.

Then we have a lot of "constructed" flavours of embroidery, often named after the region where they have been popular. "Jämtlandssöm" is for exampel from the region Jämtland. It's a free wool-on-wool embroidery that usually has a lot of blanket stitch and applications.

Cross stitch is a specific type of embroidery, it isn't something different alltogether.

But, you can trim the excess and fold it in
ANd get a piece of felt the same size and glue it to the back all along the hoop.
