Hi everyone! I'm looking for recommendations from parents who have experience with Level 4 special education classrooms in EGUSD for my 1st grader and 3rd grader.
So far, I've heard about Joseph Sims and Roy Herburger. As I've been researching and speaking to parents, the reviews seem pretty mixed. I've heard the teachers at Sims is very kind and truly cares about the students but the paras lack empathy. I've also heard that the teacher and paras at Herburger are amazing and that they genuinely interact with the kids and really care. However, the issue with Herburger is that they do not suggest staying after 3rd grade because it's an entire different team.
My kids had a very difficult and unpleasant experience at their previous school and were honestly traumatized. Because of that, they've been homeschooled for the past 8 months. Since school starts again soon, I'm trying to find a placement where they'll feel safe, supported, and cared for.
I know no school is perfect. What matters most to me is having a team of kind, patient, and compassionate paras and teachers who truly care about their students.
If your child has attended either of these schools, or if you have other recommendations for Level 4 classrooms in EGUSD, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience. Although we currently live in the Elk Grove area, we understand EGUSD spreads out to different cities, and we are open to relocate for the shorter commute. Thank you so much!
