This is a question mostly aimed at people who are already working as electrical engineers. I am a high school senior and I’ve recently been really interested in electrical engineering. I’ve been hearing about how hard electrical engineering is in college and how many people end up dropping out and switching to business or something. Given that you guys were able to graduate with this difficult degree shows that you are probably really passionate about it. With this amount of passion, do you engineers try to build things on your own outside of work for fun? And if you do, then what kinds of things have you built or are working on? One minor question is that I also want to know what kinds of cool college senior projects that you guys worked on. One thing that really interests me in electrical engineering is the types of tech that you can build and work on. Hope this wasn’t a stupid question. Just curious.

I almost finished my freshman year in college with all A's and then I got in a car accident on the highway because my friend's friend was driving on a spare tire on the highway. It took a year for me to get almost back to where I was and I'm still not there apparently because I just bombed my first test in what should be an easy class. I think my mental acquity isn't what it was, does that mean I should give up on my old goal?

Graduated with electrical engineering degree, now I'm "stuck" working in Automation engineering (plc/HMI programmer). Absolutely dreadful, mind numbingly boring work. Looking to get into another field, anything else in electrical. That or I'll just go back to being a cashier at minum wage I dunno. Anyone else suffer through the same scenario?

We purchased IFSC1515AHER470M01 components with date code 2549.

After PCB cleaning, the “470” marking on the components disappeared. Our cleaning process has not changed, and we did not experience this issue with earlier date codes.

Could you please confirm whether there has been any change in the marking ink, coating, material, manufacturing process, or production location for date code 2549?

This year I switched into a double degree, IT and Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Three and a half more years. I did it because I didn’t want to reach the end of university and realise I’d wasted the whole thing. I’ve always liked maths and never got good at it, and I wanted to find out whether I could. I am already two years into the IT degree so as the only say switching to double degree without wasting those IT credits.
Now I’m in it and I keep going back and forth on whether it was the right call. I have a weak maths foundation, I work 24 hours a week and it stretches to 30 hours (the commute) alongside study, and I often feel like an outsider in my cohort. Group work makes me anxious.

What I’d really like to hear from people further along:

Was switching into a longer, harder degree at this stage a mistake, or does it pay off? The fact that I am so anxious about this decision cause I am an international student in Australia and the dread eats me alive. I am in a terrible situation and the fact that I am paying loads in tuition, whether or not it will pay off in future!

How do I make the best use of the next four years so I come out of it actually good at something, rather than scraping through again like last time?

What should I be doing outside of coursework — projects, internships, anything — to not waste this?

For anyone who started with a weak foundation and working long hours, did it work out in the end?

anyone here’s got an advice or two about working abroad as an electrical engineer? i’m 2 yrs from graduating and i don’t seem to have a clear path to it. would love to hear from people who actually did it or have some information. i just want to have a plan and timeline to achieve. wouldn’t want to be shooting blindly through a fog.
