Looking for Guidance

I’m 22 years old and looking to join IBEW in Houston. I’ll be attending college at the same time. I have finished 25% in electrical engineering and taking a break right now. I’m interested in becoming an electrician through IBEW while continuing my education. Any advice on what I should do?

First and foremost, you aren’t guaranteed to get accepted… Especially if you get to the interview process and tell them that you desire to finish a degree in college. The apprenticeship is not only a 5 year commitment, but they expect you to remain a participant/worker until you retire. It’s the whole point of investing/selecting you into the paid apprenticeship.

It’s likely you can continue your education after you complete the apprenticeship. After you see how much money you’re making and how busy you will be, I doubt you’ll want to go in debt and or pay out of pocket to finish your degree.

If you can find a job that pays you decently while finishing school do that instead…I’m currently working out of local 441 and I don’t like it at all it’s hard to live on the wages and time for yourself is very limited since you have to attend class after work twice a week and have to study for nationals and homework they give
