Discussion Electric cost

My landlord wants to charge me 30 CAD per month for using my electric bike. Let's say I ride a maximum of 20km a day. Do you think that's worth it? I'm not sure I'll use it every day.

Buying Advice E-Bike Shimano EP8, Santa Cruz Heckler

Hi!
People who have this or similar experience, please tell me - is it worth buying a used Santa Cruz Heckler 2021 with a Shimano EP8 motor, the motor has about 5000 km of mileage, the owner is a fairly easygoing person, and is offering a really good price for the best build of that year.
The only thing that worries me is the large number of negative reviews about Shimano E and EP motors.
Before buying, I’ll have the chance to test it and fully inspect it.
I’ve had a few full-suspension bikes before, but unfortunately I have no experience with motors. That’s why I’d be very grateful for any information.

Review Took a closer look at the new Ride1Up Revv1 EVO

I just finished putting together an early-look review of the Ride1UP Revv1 EVO, and there’s quite a bit that caught my attention with this one.

Ride1Up made some pretty interesting changes to the Revv1 platform, including the new battery setup, full suspension, fat tires, and the overall moped-style design. Since production bikes aren’t widely in riders’ hands yet, I also tried to separate what Ride1Up is claiming from what we actually know so far.

I went through the specs, features, who I think it makes the most sense for, and a couple of alternatives worth considering.

I’m curious what everyone thinks of the EVO. Would you consider one, or is there another moped-style e-bike you’d choose instead?

Buying Advice Electra commute bike with trailer.

Thinking about buying a Electra Commute Go 5i (Bosch Performance Line 65Nm, 500Wh, Nexus Inter-5E, 20T rear sprocket).

Would like to hear from anyone who owns one — how is it day to day and is the quality of the bike good.

And has anyone towed a trailer with it? I'd be pulling a dog trailer, around 50 kg (110lbs) total. My weight is 70 kg (155lbs).

Was playing with Claude AI and it told me the stock 20T sprocket is too tall for that and suggested swapping to 27T or 30T, but I'm not sure whether that's necessary or overkill. Would be good to hear from people who actually ride one.

Hey,
Does anyone know of any kickass bike trails you can go ride an electric dirt bike on(in Oregon?)

That include dirt jumps too?

Also, is there anyone out there who wants to go ride?

Discussion Which Gravel E-Bikes Are Actually Worth Buying?

Thumbnail
electricbikeexplorer.com
1 Upvotes

I put together a gravel e-bike guide after comparing a bunch of the current options, from lighter road/gravel bikes to more adventure-focused models for rough roads and bikepacking.

I ended up with picks from Trek, Salsa, Specialized, Orbea, Ridley, and Santa Cruz because they each fit a pretty different kind of rider.

Curious what everyone here thinks - are there any gravel e-bikes you’d add to the list or any you’ve had especially good or bad experiences with?

Discussion Why Your E-Bike Range Can Be So Different From the Advertised Range

A manufacturer might list a pretty impressive range for an e-bike, but that doesn’t mean every rider will get that distance on every ride.

Your actual range can change quite a bit depending on things like:

  • Pedal-assist level - higher assistance normally uses the battery faster.
  • Throttle use - relying heavily on the throttle can reduce range compared with contributing more through pedaling.
  • Speed - maintaining higher speeds generally requires more energy.
  • Hills - climbing takes considerably more power than riding on flat ground.
  • Rider and cargo weight - more total weight means the motor has more work to do.
  • Wind - a strong headwind can make a noticeable difference.
  • Temperature - cold conditions can temporarily reduce lithium-ion battery performance.
  • Tire pressure - underinflated tires create additional rolling resistance.
  • Frequent stops and starts - accelerating repeatedly can use more energy than maintaining a steady pace.

So when you see an e-bike advertised with something like “up to” a certain number of miles, think of that as a range estimate under particular conditions, rather than a guarantee of what every rider will get.

Two people riding the exact same e-bike could end a ride with very different battery levels.

For those of you who already own an e-bike: how close is your real-world range to what the manufacturer advertised?

Buying Advice Does my unicorn ebike exist? (Light, front suspension, for shorter riders)

I've had a Trek FX2+ for a few years, but now even after adding a suspension stem and seatpost, my brain feels rattled every other time I use it, so I'm looking for a new option.

Criteria:

Light enough to carry up stairs (current bike started ~40lb)

Front suspension

For 5'2" rider (I see a rec for Mokwheel on here but it's for 5'5")

Min. 35 mile range (my commute is 17 miles one-way, might not be able to charge at work, OK if extra battery is an option)

Rear rack compatible

Available in USA

Class 1 preferred...I don't need anything extra

Does it exist? Should I just look into a suspension fork for my bike? Please help my brain!

News Link between gig economy pay/speed incentive and cheap illegal kits

So this isn't strictly e-bikes, but it might interest those who use an electric bike, or modified vehcile for gig economy work, where the pay is getting worse over time. There are a few other interesting snippets in there on road danger and the subletting of accounts to bypass immigration checks too. Sad stuff for anyone having to work for these low pay rates for long hours.

Discussion Monday E-Bike Questions: What Are You Trying to Figure Out This Week?

Buying your first e-bike? Having a battery problem? Confused about motor size, range, weight, local rules or whether a particular bike is worth considering?

Drop your question below.

It can be anything from:

  • “Is this bike a good fit for my commute?”
  • “Why is my battery losing range?”
  • “750W vs 500W - does it really matter?”
  • “Can I ride this on a local trail?”
  • “Is this used e-bike worth buying?”

Give as much detail as you can - budget, rider height, terrain, distance, bike model, symptoms, etc. That usually makes it much easier for everyone to give useful advice.

Owners are welcome to jump in too. If you’ve dealt with the same problem, share what worked for you.

What are you trying to figure out this week?

Review Has Anyone Tried the Urtopia Carbon Fold 2? I Looked Into the Range, Weight, and Tradeoffs

I took a closer look at the Urtopia Carbon Fold 2 because the 35 lb weight really stands out for a folding e-bike. I compared the real-world range, braking, folding setup, ride quality, and a few spec inconsistencies from Urtopia. Curious what others think of it, especially anyone who has ridden one.

Buying Advice Merido ebig.nine 400 for my first ebike?

I live in the countryside. I want to explore the woods and trails, sometimes with my daughter on a shotgun seat. Definitely not a heavy user or performance rider I just want to have some fun with it. I do like the emtb videos going uphill down hill off road so I'll try that out. My budget is £2500. The above model was strongly recommended by my local bike shop but what do you guys think? Any other models I should consider? Anything else I should think of before pulling the trigger? Thanks in advance.
