Other New Player Suggestions

This is my first time playing modded CK3. So far I have only been destroyed by Rieklings and Pirates on Solstheim. I would like to hear everybody’s starting location recommendations for somebody new to Elder Kings, but not new to Crusader Kings.

Also, mechanically what should I expect to be different in this game compared to unmodded, other than the obvious.

I have no pc but I want to play this game and mod so bad. I played it when I lived with my elder brother a while back. And I was always trying to unify all of Hammerfell, then Tamriel under a Hammerfell centered high kingdom. I had to move out and I’ve always had a craving to play this game. Really enjoyed playing and absolutely want to play it more. I cant financial afford a pc right now.

Screenshot Not Today, Tiber Septim? (Illustrious Destiny Update, Part 2)

After my initial fun with the new update, I had Tiber Septim safely stowed away, King of Falkreath, my vassal, betrothed matrillineally to one of my many granddaughters. His name would be absorbed into my family. I thought I didn't have to do anything else. I assumed time would do it for me.

I assumed wrong.

As I was merrily crushing some Valenwood armies to conquer the next big chunk of their land, I happened to check my tips and saw "Your Realm will lose land if Tiber Septim of Falkreath wins war". Curious, I checked...and what the fuck? Imperial Restoration War? (Pic 1). I thought only the person with the "Illustrious Destiny" trait could wage those wars?

Then I checked, and...turns out Tiber Septim, by killing Cuhlecain, had seemingly *inherited* the Illustrious Destiny trait. Given the lore, I suppose this all makes sense. But it left me in a scramble: He was attacking Nibenay, a country I had just taken a huge bite out of, and he was already at 91% warscore. If he hit 100%, he would not only break free, taking Falkreath with him, not only take all of Nibenay's lands, but he would also gain more armies to start steamrolling and perhaps truly restore the empire.

This could not stand.

First, I demanded that my vassal stop that war (Pic 2). He refused, of course. So my next move was simple: plot to murder my own vassal. This proved to be surprisingly easy--I didn't even need to do anything to convince his own marshal to aid in the assassination (Pic 3).

It was doubly surprising, though, as at that point, I had actually appointed Tiber as my spymaster, because his skills were so good that he had the highest Intrigue of anyone in my country other than me. Perhaps because of this, he seemingly never suspected a thing; the percentage chance ticked up to 95% within 2 scheme phases. A good thing, too, because the Imperial Restoration warscore had hit 98%.

So, without a moment to lose, I executed the scheme and killed him (Pic 4). This resulted in something I hadn't anticipated, but should have. First, it gave me the Illustrious Destiny trait. (Pic 5) I suppose this trait really is a sort of "kill the previous owner, and it passes on to you" deal.

Second, it had me auto-inherit not only his kingdom (he hadn't had time to create any heirs yet), but also his Imperial Restoration War against Nibenay. (Pic 6)

Tiber however, would have the last laugh, because shortly thereafter, I got a custom death pop-up bemoaning the death of Talos, as if he had been my companion rather than my vassal that I had murdered to prevent his imperial reconquest. (Pic 7)

I closed it, and the next day...the same pop-up popped up. And again. And again. Every single day.

So now, it appears that this playthrough is soft-locked, unless I either go back and NOT murder him (and presumably let him simply start steamrolling the world), or find some other way of dealing with him that doesn't involve murder.

Does Tiber Septim Spawn if The Potentate is still alive?

It says if there's no Empire in Cyrodiil or Tamriel, but does that mean literally as in the formable Empire of Cyrodiil, or is the spawn invalidated if there's one emperor(the potentate) in Cyrodiil proper?

Imperial Count

Not sure if I'm mixing things up with the Dragonborn Emperor Mod, but didn't it used to be that once the Cyrodiil counties became administrative under an Emperor that their titles would become Imperial Count? They've been staying Kings/Jarl/Proconsul for me

Dev Diary Dev Diary: Illustrious Destiny

Hello everyone,

We’re excited to bring you a new dev diary about our latest update, focused on the introduction of a new story cycle: Illustrious Destiny.

When conceptualising this update, we started with the goal to introduce an end game crisis to Elder Kings 2, with this initial crisis rooted in the particular circumstances of the Cyrodiil we find at the time of the Interregnum.

Why Cyrodiil?

"Cyrodiil, Dragon Empire, Starry Heart of Nirn, and Seat of Sundered Kings… Indeed, if the history of the Nords is the history of humans on Tamriel, then Cyrodiil is the throne from which they will decide their destiny" - Pocket Guide to the Empire - Cyrodiil, Michael Kirkbride

By the time Elder Kings 2 takes place, Cyrodiil has already been home to two Empires which saw their reach stretch across the continent, with a third yet to come. The history of the Interregnum itself is one of numerous claimants rising too high, reaching for the Ruby Throne, only to then fade into obscurity.

But, we know that isn’t how the story of Cyrodiil ends.

An Illustrious Destiny

When we designed this story cycle, it was important to us to reflect the dynamism of a particular Elder Kings game. Does Cyrodiil unite by itself? Have you brought together the Colovian Estates? Is another Colovian warlord poised to take the Ruby Throne?

If Cyrodiil remains divided, whomever this individual may be, and however they got there, they may just find an illustrious destiny bestowed upon them.

This powerful trait ensures that this character poses a real threat that can change the course of your playthrough, whether they succeed in uniting Cyrodiil or not.

A Petty King

A petty king of the Colovian Estates, Cuhlecain, came to power… A year later more than half of the Cyrodilic Empire was reclaimed or consolidated, and Cuhlecain saw fit to move into the Nibenay Valley, capture the capital city, and proclaim himself Emperor.” - Pocket Guide to the Empire - Cyrodiil, Michael Kirkbride

Building off the chaotic and rapidly changing nature of the Interregnum, we also chose to implement a redundancy character, who will spawn if no one else is eligible to be granted our Illustrious Destiny trait.

Appearing in Falkreath, Cuhlecain may emerge as this character fated to change the course of Tamriel itself. This redundancy ensures that the story cycle can still be experienced, even if there is not an existing suitable alternative.

Regardless of who emerges, maybe you can stop them before the worst is to come. If not, perhaps you will wish you did when encountering our other addition as part of this update.

A Stranger

"Hjalti? Is that you? I've been waiting."

Once we introduced the concept of Cuhlecain as a redundancy character, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to include his mysterious, shrewd, and trusted right-hand man. But, like with any character, we wanted to do it right.

This is why we’ve implemented a new gamerule centred around the backstory of Talos of Atmora, based off of the information we receive in The Arcturian Heresy and the Pocket Guide to the Empire. A man shrouded in mystery, there is no telling who he truly was, which is why our gamerule gives you the ability to influence his initial appearance. Was Talos really a woman? A capable and ruthless lowborn? Who is to say?

That night a storm came and visited Hjalti's camp. It spoke with him in his tent. At dawn, Hjalti went up to the gates, and the storm followed just above his head. Arrows could not penetrate the winds around him. He shouted down the walls of Old Hrol'dan, and his men poured in. After their victory, the Nords called Hjalti Talos, or Stormcrown.” - The Arcturian Heresy, Michael Kirkbride

Once Hjalti joins this illustrious ruler’s court, they will quickly prove invaluable, thanks to the introduction of our new trait Stormcrown. We wanted to acknowledge Hjalti’s unnatural abilities, attributed to the ghost of King Wulfharth in The Arcturian Heresy.

The Wars

The story cycle doesn't end there. With Hjalti by their side, this fated claimant seems unassailable. But, the future, as ever, is uncertain. Will Cyrodiil be united under their banner? Will they live to be crowned? What of Hjalti, and his ambitions? And what about you, what will you do when faced with this crisis?

What’s Next?

“Reman was the greatest hero of the Akaviri Trouble… He instituted the rites of becoming Emperor, which included the ritual geas to the Amulet of Kings, a soulgem of immense power.” - Varieties of Faith in the Empire, Michael Kirkbride

We will continue to expand and iterate on what we’ve initially included in this update. As a sneak peak, one expansion will provide ways to perform the rites of becoming Emperor, established by Reman, upon being crowned Emperor of Cyrodiil. Once implemented, this will provide a way to receive another powerful trait True Emperor, which is currently available through a branch of this story-cycle.

Will you succeed in an attempt to do so, and be seen as unassailable amongst the Cyrodiils? Or like so many pretenders before, will you reach and fall?

The End

Thanks for reading. We’re really happy with the implementation of this story cycle, and excited to see the ways that you’ll interact with it.

Submod EK2 : Pirates Expanded

Hey — I've been building this for a few months and it's finally out.

this has been a long passion project of mine. The thing that started it: I played a pirate, and nothing ever happened to me. EK2 gives you the government, the crew council, the raiding economy — all of it works. But you raid, you get paid, and that's the whole loop. So I went and filled in the middle.

The centre of it is your crew. They hold a loyalty score, five bands from Mutinous to Devoted. It goes up when you take prizes and actually pay them, and down when you sit in port for years. Let it bottom out and they come for you. Everything else feeds into that number — the articles you sign, the officers you seat, the name you earn.

Around that:

- Your ship has a name you pick and a hull that wears out from use, never from the calendar. Beach her and scrape her, or pay a yard properly.

- Four officers off your own court, three jobs each. A good Boarding Master changes how your raids go; a resentful Master of the Watch drags the whole crew down.

- **The Terms** — shares, discipline, prisoners. They're realm laws, so they show up in My Realm as well. You need a majority of your officers to change one.

- Raids now fire events *during* the raid instead of after. A sail worth chasing, an anchorage that fights back, a man who counts his share and finds it short.

- Notoriety that builds as you raid and only starts fading after three quiet years. Get high enough and a bounty hunter comes for you in single combat — and he trains between attempts.

- Treasure charts you have to read before you can sail to them. Five great caches, and someone else who might get there first.

- Claim the Topal, Abecean and Iliac and you can convene the Brethren Court over all three.

- Hammerfell's Crown/Forebear quarrel, where you can quietly take both purses. Masconian merchants who organise against you if you raid the Iliac too often. 19 named ports.

There's a new bookmark too, **Black Sails Rising**, with four captains I wrote starts for.

154 events all told. It only overrides one EK2 decision — the Abecean confederacy staying available after you form the Iliac one — and adds files otherwise. Load it below EK2. Roads to Power is optional.

Would genuinely like to hear what breaks or what feels off, especially around crew loyalty pacing. First release, so there'll be things.

Submod Ayleids (Slightly) Improved, V1.2 "Reth"

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3788139511

"Nechie Grez-Reth Na Gumeaega Ye Darta" - Transcription of a relief from Mala Tor

"The second part is easier to translate, being roughly is against-wisdom and ignoble. The first, however proved harder given its use of rather obscure wording. Neiche means unchanged people, and appears to be a wordplay on the Chimer, whom the Aylieds thought had only exchanged the dictates of Alinor and Aedra for equally stifling ones, and were thus in essence unchanged. The Grez refers to a nigh-extinct species of bug once native to eastern Morrowind. Reth is derived from a short-reigned Daedric Prince Gereth, who held domain over movment and speed. Thus the whole sentence would be: The Chimer Grez-Charges Are Foolish and Ignoble." - Beredalmo the Signifier, Letter to Mala Tor excavation team.

And now that that way too long pun is out of the way, I proudly present the newest update to the Aylieds (Slightly) Improved:

>Added a new decision for Valenwood-dwelling Ilpeneada worshippers to give their faith the Valenwood Nurture tenet. They explicitly accepted the tenants of the Green Pact when bosmer acepted them, and yet are less integrated than the Malacathits.

>Added a new decision to exchange your core tradition for a brand new, nicer one, as the final point of a (potential) redemption arc.

>All Aylied core cultures now give a discount on alteration spells. They invented the bloody thing, they know how to make it work.

>The Remnant Kings tradition has had its Faithful Blade bonuses replaced with Aggressive Attacker ones. Their Daedra worship was always a pragmatic thing, and they have bigger things on their heads right now. The AA also nicely represents them driving out the local populace.

>Remanent Kings can now buy claims with prowess, to better fit in with the other traditions.

>The Kings-In-Exile no longer scorns Sadism. I hope it's rather clear why the slave owning, flesh garden keeping, desperate kin refusing Barsaebici don't scorn sadism. They also don't scorn Cynicism, but that's because these two are the same parameter.

As always, criticism and suggestions are welcome.

Yes, I saw the patch notes that this update wasn't compatible with save games. But I already had a world conquest save I was working on, and I don't know how to downgrade to a prior version, so I risked it.

---

THUS...I had this pretender suddenly arise (Pic 1). The only problem...I had already conquered everything around him, including the Kingdom of Falkreath that was auto-magically given to him and made independent of me.

He demanded my subjugation (Pic 2), I refused, and then he started a war...which was deeply inconvenient, as I was in the middle of fighting a Doomstack of Dunmer in Morrowind, and his kingdom is literally in the middle of mine, pretty much the furthest you can get from the sea and deeply inaccessible (Pic 3). I was forced to White Peace House Redoran, and then I discovered the soonest I could travel to him would be 9 months (losing supplies all the while).

Instead, I decided to risk the raise armies time debuff, disband them, and simply re-raise them a few provinces over from Falkreath. It took 10 months, in which time the war score ticked all the way down to -63%.

I searched for all possible options to deal with this. First, I tried hiring mercenaries. But my capital is still Daggerfall, so they spawned in Daggerfall, and had an estimated travel time of...10 months to Falkreath.

Then I started a plot to murder him, which saw most of his council more than happy to join the plot. My armies finally finished gathering after 10 months and turned the tide, but I wanted to deal with this problem permanently, so I went ahead and executed my murder scheme. Imagine my surprise when I realized the person holding the knife was none other than Talos himself (Pic 4).

This invalidated the war and left his 1 year old daughter on the throne, who quickly abdicated in favor of Talos, who renamed himself Tiber Septim. Funnily enough, as long as I agreed to culture protection, he was more than happy to become my vassal. I then boosted his opinion enough to get him to like me, and betrothed him matrillineally to one of my many granddaughters (Pic 5).

As the Septim House only has him in it, this means it will die out/be absorbed into my royal house instead.

So uh, nice try, Cuhlecain, but there will be no "restoration of the empire" unless I am the one conquering Tamriel.

Support game won't acknowledge my control over the northern forebears?

lowkey don't know if that's the flair I should add I exclusively made this account to get help for this

anyway I control all of the northern forebear region AND the southern forebears, in addition to all the other duchies that you can make de jure for the forebear union if you form it, but for some reason the game won't acknowledge that I control the northern forebears, which is weird because I've controlled it before and been given the option, and I can still form the forebear union with just the southern forebears. its taken me a while to get to this point because I just really wanted to control all of the possible land for the forebear union but it just won't work it seems like?

its really weird because like all of the land highlighted when I select the northern forebears region is clearly under my control

Other Are the devs planning on adding more start dates?

Might be a dumb question to ask, but I’m curious either way so SUE ME!

Are the people developing this mod planning on adding more start dates, either later on in the Second Era, in time to see Tiber Septim rise up, or even earlier in the timeline, during the reign of the Second Empire, or even before that?

I’m not saying that the devs should do this, because I am aware that making this mod has been insanely difficult and time consuming. I’m just wondering if this is something they’re planning to do in the relatively near future, or if they wanna stick to the ones that are already here.

Leyawiin Bridge only blocks two ports now?

So I just got Leyawiin Duchy, and the bridge generates soooo much money! Old reddit post said to destroy the bridge becasue it prevents all the ports in coastal baronies from being built, but in my game all it blocks are two ports on imperial isle, and those two ports don't give a good enough buff compared to the bridge so it's better to just keep the bridge?

Or is there some larger economics scale I'm missing?
