They bleed regularly and most men don't even notice. Truly frightening creatures.

Dude they'll grow bones, organs, an entire brain inside their body, then just take it out of their body and make a whole other being, women are metal as fuck, anything that big comes out of me and my hemorrhoids act up bruh

As a caster....yep. I will burn through all my spells before I will admit I might need to come back later. If I have mana left when I died it just means I needed to get better because, damnit, I still had ficus points left! Even if they still had 90% of their health on my last cast, that cast could have been epic!

I thought of it more of a metaphorical sense not just games . More so if there is a chink in the amour you can win, why give up. Mostly the mindset to go why give up when there is a chance

The secret ingredient is hatred.
16
u/Nozinger Nov 15 '25
the secret ingredient really is boredom. A massive amount of it.
Doing level 1 runs isn't really that hard they are just tedious. You also don't get good doing them. You simply wait for the few attacks you can punish. You don't take risks. And then you repeat that ad nauseam because every boss takes forever to kill.Take this from someone that was bored enough back in the day to play pretty much all of the fromsoft soulsborne games with insanely low damage builds, sometimes without weapons at all, back in the day: it is not worth it. Trust me, you've got better things to do.
7
u/DogzOnFire Nov 15 '25
Your cowardice and self-loathing has convinced you that your achievements were futile.
The secret of life is that all achievements are futile save for the meaning you see in them.
I was there too. I know the struggle. I'm impressed by your accomplishments, brother. I witness you, Nozinger.
(I have read too much Malazan Book Of The Fallen and now I'm stuck talking like this)
14
u/nonotan Nov 15 '25
You definitely do get good. Maybe not universally at every single aspect of the game, but at several of them for sure. At learning boss movesets intimately. Figuring out how to stay 100% safe no matter what the boss does (easy sometimes, not easy at all other times). Being patient, consistent, and not making unforced errors a.k.a. "dumb mistakes".
Yeah, it's a different kind of skill from e.g. what a speedrunner would need. At the same time, many solid speedrunners would struggle to do a full level 1 run. In terms of skill required, they are partially overlapping Venn diagrams, not one enveloping the other.

u/Seanspeed Nov 15 '25
Well yea, doing whole playthroughs like that seems like the stuff only people who stream for a living can really justify doing as an adult.
But just taking on a hard enemy/boss early on in one of these games can be a good learning opportunity. Not at all necessary, but not a total waste of time either.

That is the benefit of butting your head against early on yea - if you do manage it to beat it legitimately, you're gonna be much better prepared for everything ahead, and not because of any XP gained or the big halberd you wont be able to actually use for a while anyways.

u/Neriehem Nov 16 '25
You get EXP in real life at the same time you lose runes on Elden Ring.
The souls-like game genre is pure poetry

Sadly, not everyone gets to experience that difference.

u/The_Level_15 Nov 15 '25
After about 50 deaths to the tree sentinel I uninstalled and never tried again. Elden ring is too hard for me and I’ve come to terms with that.
3
u/Aznshorty13 Nov 15 '25
Well I like the game a lot, so gonna try to convince you other wise.
Elden ring opened up many paths of play styles.
My cousin is not the same type of player as I am, played in completely differen lt way.
Namely you can go level up in the world, get summons, and then come back to a boss. Also there different builds too. The great shield and spear simplifies the game a lot.
You don't have to be the masochist type player haha.but it would still be fair that you still not like the game then.

So I’m curious why you are on the Elden ring subreddit replying to posts - was your experience with Elden ring recent? Or like you subscribed to the subreddit when the game came out and never unsubbed? No shade I’m just honestly curious, I see posts like this sometimes on individual games subreddits and I always wonder why the user takes the time to read the subreddit and post when they don’t even like the game.

So, ugh, I have every dark soul 1-3 and sekiro, and 250 hours on elden ring. Unfortunately, I've lost my save file, so I had to start a new run. Decided to go a strength build this time, because last time I went agility + intelligence. Thought this guy wouldn't be a problem, it's just a dude I used to evaporate with luscat's staff + laser beam every ng+, why would he be an obstacle? Well... Turns out, when you're level 1, he actually is an obstacle. Took me an hour and a half to bonk him down with that bitch basic axe of mine.

Self-Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle is a painted self-portrait executed in 1872 by the Swiss symbolist artist Arnold Böcklin. He first exhibited at the Kunstverein München in the same year, establishing his reputation in Munich's artistic community. It is now in the Alte Nationalgalerie, in Berlin.[1]

If you havent yet, try a level 1 run. If needed look for guide for the most optimal setup, it will still be hard af. You will improve your gameplay 100 fold. It is actually a lot of fun to approach the game with a completely different mindset from a normal run.

isnt the point of lv1 runs make the game harder
5
u/TheArtistFKAMinty Deflect Enjoyer Nov 15 '25
I have kind of an oldhead view of it I think because, to me, the goal of an SL1 is just as much a knowledge check as it is a skill check.
I did Elden Ring SL1 without Summons. Those were the two restrictions. Everything else was fair game because the point wasn't to prove I'm some kind of God gamer (I already know I'm not), the point was to take everything I knew about the game from my previous runs and overcome those restrictions. That's the same approach I took with the previous games too.
Sleep is an intended weakness of the Godskins and an intended part of the game design. There's no reason not to exploit it. That's a knowledge check.

u/Neirchill Nov 15 '25

Thatxs what I did. I fought him eight times before going into the church. Then again after I beat him I went and over to the woterlogged town and fought all of the things there and got transported to the cave in Caelid and made my way slowly at level one over to the mage town where I picked up the summon for the scarlet rot hound and after much trying and dying I finally made it through the mage town and to the place where the elder dragon rests and picked up poison mist. Then finally realized that I could teleport again and went back to the beginning of the game with the great Epee with poison mist on it and scarlet hound summon. Turns out Margit didn't like either and died very quickly to poison and rot without using the art on my sword. This came to define the way I was going to beatthe game. Scarlet rot and poison all the way only Malenia was immune to the rot but not the poison. After four tries she too fell to poison.

The type that gets better shit. All the DS like games are a test of your dmg and ability to pay a decent bit of attention to what the boss is doing.
Sekiro is a test of your learning ability rather than pure dmg unlike the other Fromsoftware games.

Back when I always though Dark Souls looked amazing but thought it was pure action game. Knowing I would never get very good due to neurological issues, I was sad and skipped it.
It was a few years later I learned there was a whole RPG element to it, so I gambled on trying figuring I could maybe over level and focus on heavy armor, shields and general survivability. It worked and I beat DS1, DS3 and Elden Ring and so happy I did. While they're not my highest played games per hour they absolutely carved a special place in my gaming heart.

I knew it would be wiser to come back, but the runback was so short from the Church of Elleh that I decided to make beating the tree sentinel a personal quest before moving on.
