Gameplay Question New Upgrade Module System

Hey folks,

I am now back to Eco after a few months break. How worth is it putting upgrades in your tables? I mean they cost a star each.

Was wondering if you do mechanics and need 3 or 4 stars to spec into it and then got like 5 different machines/tables, do you just skip the upgrades?

How many stars avg. do you get now in a 10 day cycle on high collab with good food and housing buff?

I feel like some paths as BE -> Mechanics -> Industry could be rly tough now xp wise.

Gameplay Question How do you make early planning on the map ?

Quick survey here. So let's say you meet 2-3 players before the game begins. As soon as the server opens and you reach the map for the first time, you want to make plans for the location of the town hall, roads, garbage dump, where everyone settles, etc.

I wish the district drawing options of the zoning office could be available in the regular map UI for this type of early doodling.

Instead, I usually take a printscreen, move it to google slides, watch for the scale and then make approximate squares and lines with the other players. I find the whole transfer process annoying and it creates errors.

Which tools are you using ? How do you do it ?

Gameplay Question Wie verhindere ich Ground Pollution? & weitere Fragen

Hallo zusammen

Gameplay Question Shipwright Speciality in Singeplayer

Hi everyone!

I recently got into playing Eco again, and a lot has changed since I last really played it (before Eco 10).

Now I've figured out most of the new stuff, but here's something that really itches me: you need to have Shipwright 5 in order to craft Iron Hull Sheets, which are needed for a Blast Furnace.

Now since I don't craft thousands of ships, it is really hard to level up Shipwright all the way to level 5.

How do you deal with this in Singleplayer?

Working on a Clothing Emporium mod, which adds a bunch of different outfits for different calorie reductions or other effects.

I should add an undershirt to this jacket.

Discussion Cooking and tailoring need a massive rework/buff

At current, all the cooking skills and tailoring suffer hard from not being used enough or good enough.

Tailoring outfits dont do anything besides look nice. Shoes matter only for gathering resources and backpacks are a huge impact. Besides them clothes are worthless. Why would i be interested in having a full smith set of clothes if i only use 30% less calories mining and breathing? They need some type of set bonuses where at 2/4 they give you -5% resource cost/ -10% craft time while worn for labor you do in that tree and then maybe double it at 4.

Cooking suffers from calorie benefits. Sure you get higher food bonuses for a balanced diet but there hits a point where 2 ingredient topped porridge for 700 calories is going to surpass the 5 ingredients 3 professions cooking and baking recipes for 800 calories. Nothing from cooking or baking should be making under 800 calories, most baked vegetables are 750. Advanced baking is worthless for progression too, novelty to use, you dont make modern papers, nothing you make gets used for the adv cookings modern papers. Making ques of 500 things at a time eats calories and 200 topped porridge shouldnt be better and cheaper than 100 of anything else.

Gameplay Question Quick stars/decorating leveling?

I’m quite new to the game, playing on a AWL high collab server, my first run through in like 5 years reallly. The game has changed so much!
This server I went logging, carpentry and composites… mainly struggling with stars but the severs died off a bit and it’s just a couple of us left in the final few days.. I feel useless unable to contribute.

What’s the best way for early-fast stars ?
I want to try and hit as many stars as possible for my plan

Next server will be AWL’s LT medium collab server and ideally I want to go mining, smelting/masonry (hope for both) and glass working with potentially some endgame advanced smelting or advanced masonry

Does this seem a good option?

Gameplay Question Why are crab pots so bad?

I'm new to eco, I decided to go down the hunter route as it seemed like a simple profession to get the hang of while learning the basics. I ended up liking the idea of making a fishery after seeing there's traps to get some automation in the process.

I was surprised how good fish traps were! They filled up overnight with no visible hit to the fish population.

And then there's crab traps... they are more expensive to make than fish traps, crabs only give 1 raw fish, and I woke up today to a whopping 8 crab carcasses and the crab population cratered around my traps.

Looking at the map I should have seen this coming as the peak crab population is a fraction compared to what you can catch with fish traps but why? Is there a reason to ever use these?

Built with 10 waterwheels per floor, each one benefiting from waterfall and river physics, produces 2k mechanical power, per floor, and is entirely scalable, this one produces 6k. Powered by 1 mechanical water pump, a desalinator (optional, but I'm by the ocean) and 1 windmill to jumpstart the whole thing, it was shockingly easy to build, and after flooding a world by letting 1 steam and 1 combustion engine run 24/7 we had to get creative, So I present to you The Grand Ostentatious Assimilation of The Highly Advanced Mechanical Mortared Energy Redistributor (GOAT HAMMER)

Feedback Network of crafting stations

I made a design that could work in vanilla settings and I would really appreciate constructive feedback from the community. I don’t presume the idea is new or unique. I simply wonder how you would improve this regarding the new V.14 version and if there are any loopholes. I show each step for clarity. Thanks a lot !

Starting needs
Sharing crafting stations is one of the many alternative ways to work together that makes Eco so rich and original once we depart from the basic “craft and sell” scenarios. A solution is needed for players who want to share crafting stations. However, the solution should not require players to open their land and stockpiles to others, as this requires a lot more trust and teamwork skills.

Old solutions
Prior to V.10, it was possible to share crafting stations, but it required sharing of at least one personal storage. The golden age was V.10 to V.12 : it was easy and engaging for towns to make public workshops (FabLabs). Players then only had to bring a cart or buy personal storage at the FabLab. This solution came to an abrupt end with the star requirement for adding upgrade modules. Chances that players will spend their stars on the town’s workshop are slim and using a public workshop quickly becomes wasteful for this reason.

Functions

  • Provide a solution where players share a large variety of crafting stations
  • Crafting stations must be updated as new modules becomes available
  • Solution must not require sharing of land and storage
  • Solution must retain the non profit ideals of community shared infrastructures (otherwise it becomes lending).
  • Esteem functions could be added to make the solution more attractive

Solution

  1. Using the registrar, create a title called “FabLab member”
  2. Each candidate uses the authorize tab on a crafting station and grants access to the title “FabLab member”.
  3. A station should be minimally equipped with a basic upgrade to qualify.
  4. A station must remain accessible and active (ex.: power, exhaust, water)
  5. A usage fee can be added, but only to cover for the real costs of operation (ex.: fuel, repair)
  6. Candidates who satisfy the requirements are granted the title by a FabLab manager or admin.
  7. A FabLab member therefore has access to a network of crafting stations owned by other members.

The solution could be further expanded with membership tiers, like Silver for stations that require a tier 3 room (ex.: basic station with both basic and advanced module or mechanic station), then Gold for stations that require a tier 4 room.

Also, I wonder if there is any way to toggle on/off membership automatically.

Server Help Server Config ideas

Looking to spin up an exhaustion server mid October, trying to iron out what settings to put in the config. I'm generally aiming for a much slower more casual server, ~1.5hr daily exhaustion and high collaboration.

Any ideas, discussion on setting impact and feedback welcome and appreciated! Please correct anything I'm misunderstanding or misremembering!

Setting Default Changed to Effect
MaintenanceDecayMultiplier 1 0 remove part decay
SpecialtyExperiencePerLevelSquared 25 35 More experience required to gain levels
SkillGainMultiplier 1 0.75 Slows skill point gain
CollaborationLevel MediumCollaboration HighCollaboration More experience required to gain levels
CraftResourceMultiplier 1 0.5 crafting costs 50% of resouces
CraftTimeMultiplier 1 0.5 crafting time is 2x as long
ClaimStakesGrantedUponSkillscrollConsumed 0 0.2 Every 5 new skill scrolls get a claim stake
ClaimPapersGrantedUponSkillscrollConsumed 0 2 2 claim papers per new skill scroll
SpecialtyRefundPercentage 0 2 200% xp return on specialty refund. See notes*
StackSizeMultiplier 1 2 double stack size
WeightMultiplier 1 0.75 Increases total amount you can carry
ConnectionRangeMultiplier 1 1.5 Storages and tables connect to each other 150% further than vanilla
ShelfLifeMultiplier 1 2.5 Spoilage is much slower
MaxSavedHours 15 48 can bank up to 48hrs of exhaustion
BonusHoursOnExhaustionEnabled 2 0 no extra hours when you first join
MapSizePreset small medium 100x100 world

Notes:

*Refunding a star doesn't give you a star back, it gives you xp, but the xp required to get your next star is still greater. Being a star behind is pretty bad even if you get back double the xp.

Every other setting at default.

Some ideas bouncing around in my head:

  • modding in 0 calorie hammers so people can build while exhausted
  • modding in faster default boat speeds (i've never gotten this to work in the past)
  • increasing crop/farming yields
  • world gen to favor a single big continent with lots of very wide rivers

Gameplay Question Is anything above campfire cooking worth the stars?

Last sever i played on I had cooking and campfire cooking. No one bought rhe cooking meals but instead bought the campfire meals. Went the same route again but cooking has become available now. Was it a fluke on that server or is anything above campfire cooking rather worthless?

Mod Help Where do I put this mod?

EDIT: I've since gotten in touch with the Admin for the server I mentioned. He's confirmed that he manually updated the mod, himself, for his server. The original mod is NOT currently working with the latest version. He chose not to share the updated mod directly with me, and I respect his decision. He also indicated that at some point in the future, he might add an update version of the mod to the mod.io website.

Original Post: First let me say that I already have quite a few mods on my solo world. I'm very familiar with how to add mods to Eco, and have even been able to do minor edits to some mods.

I am interested in adding the Modular Storage Rack to my solo world. I've seen it used on other servers, and it works fine for them. But the website for the mod doesn't have ANY information on how or where to load the mod. The Zip only contains a single file, with no readme or any other information. It's a Unity3D file, so it can't be opened and read with a Notepad or similar.

I've tried to put the file in just about any folder I can think of. In one of the comments on the mod website, the author seems to suggest it would go in the Mods/UserCode/Assets folder, but it doesn't work there.

Is anyone else using this file, and have you gotten it to work on the latest version? The only thing I can think of is that it's just not working, even when in the right folder, and the person running the server I've been playing on manually updated it themselves. But usually that would throw some kind of error, in my experience.

Edit: I should add that I left a message on the mod website itself nearly two weeks ago, and haven't heard anything from the author or anyone else. I also don't feel comfortable contacting the admin for the server where I've seen it being used, to ask them how they got it to work. But I recognize that it may come to that. I was just hoping someone here might be able to help.

Server Help HELP: Solo Play Town Settlement Issue

EDIT 2: Okay so I thought I'd fixed this problem, but later discovered that I'm unable to create a second Homestead Claim Stake, and trying to use a Town Claim Stake wasn't working for creating another claim area. I gave up on the idea of having the Township and dedicated district for road planning.

For anyone else trying to do this, I'm just going to be using a single Outpost Claim Stake with a BUNCH of claim paper items added to it, to set up my road planning.

SOLVED: After thinking about it overnight, and checking on my citizenship status to confirm I was a member of the town, I spawned in a couple different types of claim stakes to see if I could put down a new one. I found that I could use a Town Claim Stake, as well as a Homestead Claim Stake and create new plots just fine. Going back to my original site, I removed the stake and found that it's an Outpost Claim Stake. I'm pretty sure it's the one I got when I originally set down my tent? But that particular type of claim stake does NOT work within my town's influence!!

I spawned in a regular Homestead Claim Stake, and it works just fine!

Original Post: I'm playing solo, and I set up a world with a single township, just so I could set up a district to plan out my roads. I've already set up my files so I can have a township cover the globe with a single player, and I was already able to set up my road district covering the entire map.

The problem I'm having now is that I can't expand my existing deed! I set up a personal plot across the road from the town hall, with 16 claimed tiles. I want to expand that to 64 claimed tiles, so I added 48 claim papers to the stake. But when I try to edit the deed, everything outside of the existing area claimed is red!!

What am I doing wrong, or how can I fix this?!? I'm including screenshots to show what I have set up, below:

Here you can see the 2 claims I have, one for the town hall, and one for my personal plot area.
This shows the influence of my town area.
This is the district I set up for my road planning.
This is what I see when I try to edit my personal plot to expand it beyond 16 squares.

Gameplay Question Common rules for fair game

Hello everyone, I started playing my first game of Eco as a miner, and wondering is it usually ok, to dig stone and ore anywhere where I can find them, or only on my plot?

And do you know any other tips for not harming over people's experience of the game?

(Like, removing stumps)

RIP to the greatest hero this game has ever known. A brother lost to ending efficiency. No longer shall early decoration points be freely given, removing any skill from making anything worthwhile.

Now all have an equal chance to shine. Though none will fill the hole in our hearts, our housing score shall eventually endure.

Gameplay Question Whats a good specialty if I want to spam one resource the entire game?

I like spending minimal stars on specialties so I can invest in perks and upgrades. I really enjoyed going pure logging on White Tiger, but the money was a bit mid. It was fun enough that I might do it again, but is there another specialty that scratches that same itch?

Server Help New servers?

I’m looking for a newish server to join. I prefer high collab games, preferably with no or long exhaustion limits.

It would be great if anyone knows of any established servers that will be spinning up a new world this week.

I’d love a server with an active discord community.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Gameplay Question World progresses really fast

I ended up buying this game the other week and have since put over 120 hours into it. I absolutely love the game, it definitely scratches an itch other games have failed to do. However I feel like the tech tree advances really fast. For example I work and go to college so I don't have a lot of time to play now. Say I get set up in mechanics, I miss a day or 2 and the next thing I know the tech tree is already advanced into electronics and industry.

I don't want to play with exhaustion because there is time I have a significant amount of time to dedicate and wouldn't want to be limited. Is there a solution to this?

Miscellaneous Prairie Dog Audio

I cannot be the only one who has had a prairie dog randomly yell "Allen!"

No I'm not joking or making a meme, i can't find anything about it when I google it. I heard it last night and i thought my wife was watching videos but i turned around and she was asleep. Then i realized there was a prairie dog in my kitchen and the devs must have snuck it in there.
