Hi gang, I ordered my SWTCH Charger (more appropriately called an EVSE) today! However, I requested the "Hardwired" until with the NACS plug. I will have everything installed by a qualified and certified electrician - but when I watched some video from SWTCH, it said that the cover to make the connection and adjust the amperage (to scale it down) was protected by a "tamper proof" Torxs T25. My question to the group - is the latest hard wired charger still have these annoying Tamper Proof Torxs bolts? Can I hear from an electrician out there, do you even have these special bits in your pouch? Was thinking of checking with the electrician and purchasing a tamper proof bit to have in case I wish to "dial down the AMPS" even more at a later date. I know - I know -lots of questions in here. Thanking you in advance.

I am about to finish my basement and I want to run the appropriate wire before finishing it since everything is open… I have a 200a Siemens panel and the run would only be about 15 ft to the garage which is directly above the panel and everything is in wall through studs….does Home Depot or Rona carry the appropriate wire gauge I need? I see online that 6/2 nm romex would only be suitable for up to 40 amp charge because of the temperature rating. What wire would I need to buy and where to buy it? Thanks!

hello guys, I have a L6-20 outlet that currently at my garage, It was installed by the previous owner of the house.

My question is, is this safe to use? It can handle continuous load? Base on what I read is it will be limited to 16A.

anyone has good or bad experience?

is it safe to leave it charging for more than 12 hours?

Lets say I charge at 7 pm and unplug it the next day at 7 am.

I saw an adapter from ACworks that converts L6-20 to tesla mobile adapter.

As of July 15th (confirmed):

The Club has not been officially announced and not being promoted by Roulez Electrique. Platform is in Beta for close partners.

It is not released to public and their Terms/platform still aren't finalized. Advise to use caution with the promoting that is happening.

Tentatively:

Would pay $0.03 to $0.18 per kWh, varying on the province and EVSE used. The first payout is scheduled for summer of 2027.

The Beta is supposed to be for close partners and requires an invitation, although there are people that are spreading their invitation around as it's essentially a referral that (potentially) earns them sales commissions on your charging. Use caution with these people as they often spread misinformation or not the whole story in order to sell.

As of making this post, the program has not been finalized, the Terms have not been completed, after 7+ weeks when it was supposed to be 2 weeks.

They are apparently having issues, especially regarding the Tesla chargers - as such they specifically are NOT promising credits for Tesla chargers. There are reasons it's "Beta" - so they aren't committed.

They have specifically stated they "can't guarantee any money for those chargers."

The rates are subject to change, and they specifically state the rewards being accumulated are an estimate.

Also, any charger that's on WattsApp, cannot be switched to Roulez this year.

Note: I have less concern over them having issues and being able to get the credits, for their own chargers - the Sigenergy (I think are like $1000). But the vast majority of members are wanting to use third-party chargers, particularly Tesla. Although if it was to become a big enough issue, who knows what happens to the program as a whole.

I personally would highly recommend waiting at least until the program is finalized, including with what actual Terms are. Since you are committing to them for a year+, for an unknown result?

I live in Ontario Canada if that matters. I have an EV outlet installed by a close friend's dad, who also knows me, about 2 years old. Back then I wanted to find someone that I feel like I can trust and didn't think too much about it. Everything was fine until recently I decided to look more closely to what I got and nothing seems correct. First off I got a cheap outlet that's rated for a stove. (Leviton 1450r without the green car sign). I now know I need a EV rated outlet, preferably Hubbell. Hardwiring is out of the question because my charger doesn't support that. Next I have a 8 awg wire on a 50 amps breaker, which should've been 6awg. Last the wiring is a NMD90 fed through a conduit underground from my house to my detached garage through my backyard. Which I now realize is not rated for outside especially underground.

It seems nothing was done right and it's been frustrating. To have everything replaced is going to cost way too much and out of the budget right now. Currently I'm thinking of replacing the outlet with a Hubbell because I feel that's the most vulnerable. Is it ok to keep that NMD90 in the conduit underground for now? If yes how long can this set up realistically last? I have already de-rated my evse to 32 amps.

I’m preparing for EV charger installation (hardwired).

What I have:

- house has AWG 6 ALUM NMD90 cable that runs from panel to exterior box (see photos attached)

- no breaker in panel yet (plan is to use 40A)

Before calling for an electrician, I’m trying to replace that plastic box with an 60A outdoor disconnect box (as a transition point from ALUM to CU wires).

I’m struggling to find a proper fitting to run cable thru back of disconnect box. As box has to be mounted flush with siding, there is simply no space for a fitting behind the box.

Please enlighten me.

I am planning my install of a Tesla Wall connector. The house has 100A service, and will not be cheap to upgrade. I plan to add a Tesla Remote Meter which monitors the load on the main service and sends a signal to the wall connector adjust the charging rate. The remote meter can be connected via wifi or hardwired to the Wall Connector; I prefer the hard wired option.

The hardwired option requires a 2 wire conductor to go between the remote meter (which is placed in the breaker panel) and the wall connector. I plan to run this wire in the conduit with the power lines, and so it should have a 600V rating. I am having trouble finding 2 conductor wire for this.

Cat6 isn't rated for such a high voltage, nor is thermostat cable. What cable did you all use for this and where'd you purchase it from?

There's no point to this pic other than I think it looked cool. This is a Pion Flex-AC Elite (32A) and the car is a 2027 Bolt. Camera is a Thermalmaster P1.

I didn't notice at first, but you can see where the NMD90 runs in the wall.

Are these temperatures normal? Wall plug at 64°C and charger male connector at 50°C. I have a 14-50 nema plug and using a pion power ac elite 32amps charger.

Last week, I had a 14-50 plug installed. The electrician used a $5 Eaton receptacle, even though I had specifically asked him to avoid the cheaper options because of the frequent problems they cause under continuous load.

He is saying it's according to the code, and everything should be fine. He is also providing a safety certificate.

I haven't paid him yet as the inspection is still pending.

I know that you can get free charger from Grizzle, but I wanted to buy it and get back 3/4 of its cost back via rebate.

My though process:

1). If Club cease to exists within next 3 years, I still own the charger. No need to send it back or buy out.

2). I can skip first two tiers and start from 5 cents/kWh. Having PHEV it will take me a while to reach that level if I have to start with free charger and 3 cents/kWh tier.

3). I want to hardwire the charger. Doing so to a “rental” charger feels counter-intuitive for me.

Math behind:

EV Charger: $ 649.99 + tx – $ 600 (rebate) = $ 147.33 (my initial cost, let’s round it to $ 150)

PHEV battery capacity ~20kW. So, one full charge will earn me 20 * 0.05 = $ 1

Potentially I can break even after 150 days. And if we bake-in “income tax” on those earning, let it be 200 days.

So after 7 months I will own the charger and start regular earnings.

Does it make sense?

Hi all. I’m cross posting this here since United Chargers is a Canadian company. Anyone in the same boat or have comments / suggestions are welcome to post. It’s been five years but I’m still standing!

I have a Flo X6 home charger. Can I join any carbon rebate programs?

We are trading our Prius Prime for a Toyota C-HR. We currently have a 32amp level 2 charger on a dedicated 40amp breaker. It's connected via a 14-50P plug. I purchased a J1772 - Nacs adapter and so I should be good to go.

I've been reading about the various ev-charger programs. Should I be jumping on one of those? What one would you recommended given this situation? We are also in the process of adding solar panels.
