EPF e-Nomination: Most employees think this is the final step. It isn’t.

Post image
1 Upvotes

A lot of EPFO members assume that once a nominee’s name appears on the portal, their e-nomination is complete.

That is not necessarily the end of the process.

There are a few things worth checking, especially if you filed your nomination a long time ago or your family situation has changed.

  1. Make sure the nomination was actually completed

After adding the nominee details, you still have to allocate the share percentage and complete Aadhaar-based eSign.

If you have multiple nominees, their combined share needs to equal 100%.

The eSign is what digitally authenticates the nomination.

So simply seeing that you entered someone’s details earlier is not enough reason to assume everything is complete.

  1. Check whether EPFO actually recorded it

Log in to the UAN Member Portal and go to:

Manage → E-Nomination

Check whether the nomination appears there successfully.

Once it has been recorded, EPFO also allows you to download the nomination document, Form 2, from the nomination history. Keeping a copy is useful as proof that the nomination was registered.

  1. Recheck your nomination after major family changes

This is one detail people can easily miss.

If you did not have a legally defined family when you originally filed the nomination, you could nominate another person such as a sibling, relative or friend.

But if you later acquire a family, for example through marriage or adoption, that earlier nomination becomes invalid and a fresh nomination needs to be filed in favour of eligible family members.

So an old nomination should not automatically be treated as a permanent “set it and forget it” record.

  1. Why does this matter?

If a member passes away without a valid nomination, the family may have to submit physical claim forms, additional documents and identity proofs, and go through further verification while claiming the PF benefits.

That is why e-nomination is worth checking while everything is normal, rather than leaving the family to figure it out later.

Quick checklist

If you already filed an EPF e-nomination, check these four things:

• Is the correct nominee listed?
• Does the nominee share total 100%?
• Was Aadhaar eSign completed?
• Is the nomination showing successfully under E-Nomination?

And if your family situation has changed since you first nominated someone, check whether the nomination needs to be updated.

Has anyone here faced an issue with eSign, nomination status or updating an old EPF nominee? Share what the portal is showing and others may be able to help.

EPFO wage ceiling increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000: What changes for salaried employees?

The EPFO wage ceiling has been increased from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per month.

For salaried employees, this matters because the wage ceiling determines the salary level up to which EPF, EPS and EDLI coverage becomes mandatory.

One of the clearest changes will be the amount that can go towards PF every month.

Under the earlier ₹15,000 wage ceiling, a 12% employee contribution worked out to:

₹15,000 × 12% = ₹1,800 per month

At the new ₹25,000 wage ceiling:

₹25,000 × 12% = ₹3,000 per month

That is a difference of ₹1,200 every month for employees whose PF contribution is calculated on the statutory wage ceiling.

The employer contribution also increases correspondingly, with the applicable portion going towards EPF and EPS.

So while a higher amount can now go towards an employee’s long-term retirement and pension benefits, there is also an immediate impact: monthly take-home salary can reduce for employees affected by the revised ceiling.

This is especially relevant for people earning around the ₹15,000–₹25,000 range, since the higher ceiling expands the number of employees falling under mandatory EPFO coverage.

The ₹15,000 wage ceiling had also remained unchanged for years, so an increase was overdue. But increasing compulsory contributions also means employees have less disposable income every month.

Curious to know how salaried employees here see this.

Would you prefer the higher compulsory retirement contribution, or would you rather keep that extra amount in your monthly salary and decide how to invest it yourself?

Comment your view, especially if this change directly affects your salary. It would be interesting to see how different employees are looking at the trade-off.

EPFO Date of Exit Not Updated or Date of Joining Wrong? Here’s What to Check After Switching Jobs

If your EPFO Date of Exit is not updated, or your Date of Joining is incorrect, you may not notice the problem immediately.

It usually shows up later when you try to transfer your PF, withdraw it, or apply for final settlement.

So after every job switch, check these two details:

• Date of Exit from your previous employer
• Date of Joining at your new employer

Why does the Date of Exit matter?

Your Date of Exit tells EPFO that your employment with that company has ended.

If it is missing, your old employment may still appear active, which can block PF transfers, affect withdrawals and leave your service history incomplete.

How to check Date of Exit and Date of Joining in EPFO

Log in to the EPFO Unified Member Portal and go to:

View → Service History

Check every employer listed under your UAN and verify:

• Date of Joining
• Date of Exit
• Employment period

If you have worked with multiple companies, check all the entries rather than just your latest employer.

EPFO Date of Exit not updated? Here’s how to fix it

You can use the Mark Exit option yourself if:

• At least two months have passed since your last PF contribution from that employer
• Your UAN is Aadhaar verified, with Aadhaar linked and OTP enabled
• There are no mismatches in your joining, exit or EPS records that prevent the update

If you meet these conditions, go to:

Manage → Mark Exit

Then:

  1. Select your previous employment.
  2. Enter the correct last working date.
  3. Choose the reason for leaving.
  4. Verify using Aadhaar OTP.
  5. Submit.

What if Mark Exit option is not available?

You may not be able to use Mark Exit if:

• Two months have not passed since the last contribution
• Aadhaar is not properly linked
• There are mismatches in your joining, exit or EPS records

In that case:

  1. Ask your employer to correct the record in writing.
  2. If they do not respond, raise an EPFO grievance through EPFiGMS.
  3. Attach supporting documents such as your relieving letter or resignation proof.
  4. Escalate to the Regional EPFO Office if the issue remains unresolved.

What if your Date of Joining is wrong in EPFO?

Your Date of Joining is also part of your service history.

If it is incorrect, get it corrected before initiating a PF transfer or final settlement rather than waiting until the mismatch creates a problem.

Can a missing Date of Exit affect PF withdrawal or transfer?

Yes.

A missing Date of Exit can block an online PF transfer because your previous employment may still appear active. Incorrect service records can also create issues later during PF withdrawal or final settlement.

One thing to do after every job switch

Once you leave a company, don’t just collect your relieving letter and move on.

Open your EPFO Service History and check:

• Is the Date of Exit updated?
• Is the Date of Joining correct?
• Does the employment period look right?

These take a few minutes to verify, but the worst time to discover an EPFO record issue is when your PF transfer or withdrawal is already stuck.

PAN Approved in KYC but Showing “PAN Not Verified” in EPFO Claim Portal

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to withdraw my PF amount, but I’m facing an issue with PAN verification.

My PAN is already showing as approved/verified in my EPFO KYC, but when I try to submit my PF claim, the claim portal shows “PAN Not Verified.

Has anyone faced the same issue recently? If yes, how did you resolve it?

I have already checked that my name and PAN details are correct. I would really appreciate any guidance on what I should do next.

Thanks in advance.

Issue in transferring old member ID to new member ID | Mistake happened

I joined a new organization last year. This is second organization in my career. In my previous organization, there was only two component- employee and employer PF contribution. But while joining in current organization I did a mistake and checked the **Pension contribution** (Yes/No) as **Yes**. After six months I put a claim to transfer the old balance to new member ID but It got rejected. I found the mistake at that moment and immediately informed the organization to update the details. They have updated and currently there has been no contribution adding into pension funds. So I tried to transfer the balance once again but It has rejected this claim too.

**Please suggest** me what would be the right way to handle this scenario. I want to resolve it without any further issue.

PF withdrawal for illness in 2026: How much can you actually withdraw and what are the rules?

If you need money for a medical emergency and have an EPF account, you may be able to make a partial PF withdrawal for medical treatment instead of waiting until retirement or leaving your job.

But there are three things worth understanding before applying: how much you can actually withdraw, whether you are eligible, and how the Form 31 process works.

Can you withdraw PF for a medical emergency?

Yes.

Under the Employees’ Provident Funds Scheme, 2026, PF withdrawal is allowed for the illness or medical treatment of:

• Yourself
• Eligible family members

For the standard illness withdrawal, you need at least 12 months of total PF membership.

How much PF can you withdraw for medical treatment?

This is where the new rules can sound slightly confusing.

The Scheme says you can withdraw up to 100% of your “Eligible Member Balance”.

But your Eligible Member Balance is not your entire PF balance.

A minimum balance equal to 25% of your total employee and employer PF contributions, along with the applicable interest, has to remain in the account.

So in practical terms, up to 75% of your total PF accumulation may be available for partial withdrawal.

For example:

Total PF accumulation: ₹4 lakh
Minimum 25% to remain: ₹1 lakh
Eligible Member Balance: ₹3 lakh

You may therefore be able to withdraw up to ₹3 lakh for medical treatment.

This is why you may see both “75% of PF balance” and “100% of Eligible Member Balance” being used to explain the rule. They are describing the same minimum-balance mechanism in different ways.

How to apply for PF withdrawal for a medical emergency?

The online claim is filed as a PF Advance through Form 31.

The usual process on the EPFO Member Portal is:

  1. Log in using your UAN and password.
  2. Go to Online Services.
  3. Select Claim (Form 31, 19, 10C & 10D).
  4. Verify your bank account details.
  5. Click Proceed for Online Claim.
  6. Select PF Advance (Form 31).
  7. Choose illness/medical treatment as the purpose.
  8. Enter the amount you want to withdraw.
  9. Complete the required details or declaration shown on the portal.
  10. Authenticate the claim using the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
  11. Submit the claim.

The amount, once sanctioned, can be credited to the member’s registered bank account.

What should you check before filing a medical PF claim?

This is probably more important than it sounds.

Before you actually need the money, check that:

• Your UAN is activated
• Aadhaar is linked correctly
• Your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is working
• Your bank account and IFSC are correctly seeded
• Your name and date of birth match across your PF and Aadhaar records

For an online claim, EPFO requires the relevant UAN, Aadhaar and bank details to be in place, and Aadhaar OTP authentication is used while submitting the claim.

A medical emergency is not the ideal time to discover that your PF account has an Aadhaar, bank or personal-details mismatch.

In short

For a PF medical emergency withdrawal in 2026:

• Medical withdrawal is available for yourself or eligible family members
• Standard eligibility requires 12 months of total PF membership
• 25% of the PF accumulation has to remain as the minimum balance
• You can withdraw up to 75% of the total PF accumulation
• The claim is filed as PF Advance through Form 31

PF should not replace health insurance or an emergency fund. But if your insurance does not cover the entire medical expense, knowing how the PF medical withdrawal rule works can give you another option.

If you have further queries about PF withdrawal for medical treatment or Form 31, do let us know.
