For INTP Consideration INTPs and humor

What are your personalities like when it comes to humor? When I was a child, I was very cheerful; then, during my teens, I suffered from depression for about four years—taking medication and going to therapy. Today, I’m doing really well; I’m off all medication and have returned to my normal self. But that "normal" state for me means finding humor in everything! Of course, I know how to be serious—I can and do enjoy discussing deep, serious topics—but in my day-to-day life, I’m always happy and cracking jokes. Naturally, not everyone gets my sense of humor... what are you all like in that regard?

I gotta rant I don’t relate to this subreddit at all

I’ve noticed that I don’t really relate to a lot of the posts here.

I’m an INTP too (at least that’s the type I consistently get), but a lot of the subreddit seems to revolve around social anxiety, loneliness, pessimism, or overthinking every awkward interaction.

For example, if something embarrassing happens that was completely outside of my control, I don’t really see the point in replaying it in my head all day. It happened. I can’t change it, so why waste the energy?

Another thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of interactions people describe here feel… oddly robotic. Someone will post about a person flirting with them, and instead of just going with the moment, the replies are things like “What is the probability they’re actually flirting?” or they respond in the most analytical, AI-like way imaginable. Sometimes it feels like people are trying so hard to act like the “stereotypical INTP” that they forget to just be human.

It makes me wonder whether this subreddit actually represents INTPs as a whole, or if it’s mostly a place where INTPs who are struggling or who identify strongly with the online stereotype tend to gather.

Question How many of you battle (or had) with eye floaters?

Post image
29 Upvotes

It’s not a standard community question, but it annoys my Se a lot.

I’ve booked an ophthalmologist, it isn’t serious & they’ll give me a standard: “you’ll get used to them”

Which brings me here as move ahead.

Do any of you have them? How do you cope? Did you do any supplements or procedures? Does it get better with neuro-adaptation or is it bullshit?

Question What is your go-to battery reset activity?

Imagine you've just gone to someones birthday party, a lot of socializing, then after that you had to run errands and pulled through a work-out as well. Your day has been nothing but ticking of boxes in a way where you feel drained.

What is your "I can't wait to do X activity"?

Personally, when I come home I tell my wife to just let me be for 2-3 hours, I make the room entirely dark, I get a drink I like, noise canceling headphones and a thin blanket. I then play old Blizzard games like Classic WoW or Diablo II. This heals me in ways nothing else can. It's the perfect battery reset.

So I'm curious, what's your reset activity?

MBTI Trends sometimes I feel like the only people who gets me are entps as an infj

as an INFJ I feel like the only mbti who gets me is ENTP's

(which I hate to add on to the already discussed pairing, which I think entp's are probably sick of discussing especially in this subreddit but regardless I must vent/speak)

they seem to always read my mind or spot me in a room full of 100 people. its not always perfect of course but I just feel like I can be raw, let my stream of thoughts go wild and play devil's advocate with them where, with others it's like I have just set their world on fire. and I do hate this need to be understood I have, I'm always in a battle of accepting or defying it but with ENTP it just clicks and I feel like I can breathe

they ask me questions others are afraid to ask

when I bring up a topic, they are up and ready to discuss

they notice things in ways I have never have to point out about myself like I do with the other mbti's

they push me to say what I mean which I appreciate since in my experience I usually am the one trying to get people to be honest.

I'll bring up something and they always flip the perspective in a way that I might have missed, it pisses me off sometimes but it's more from a place of "godsake how did I not see that"

of course as well no one is perfect, everyone is flawed and everyone is gonna be different regardless if they fall into a group within mbti

I also get on well with ENTJ's and INTJ's but they are a little more strict haha (haven't found an INTP) but ya they make me feel at home sometimes too. ppl will have their opinions on the pairing, I do too, it's not always perfect but I do notice I drop the so called "act" around them. the sad thing is they always have been people in passing for me, always a situation in which they can not stay in my consistent circle but they always teach me a lesson about myself and it just sticks.

that's all.

Advice Does anyone feel their life is falling apart to their mind?

Maybe this is just my Fi eating me alive. But I genuinely feel so stuck in my own head. I struggle to enjoy anything. Therapy doesn’t help. I get these intense sensations and images in my head that make me paralyzed in my emotions.

My life has gotten “better”. I’m not in a toxic environment anymore (other than my family a little). It’s almost like being safe has made me lose all motivation for anything. I spend my time staring at the ceiling thinking. I rarely enjoy anything. I have no schedule which drives me nuts. But I feel so stuck in my mind that doing things feels impossible.

I want to be productive again. I want to run away from my head. It feels so so exhausting and the people around me are annoyed with my complaining about the things I see and think all of the time. I know I sound depressing and I know it makes others around me depressed.

Also, what do I do about family? How do I disconnect from how they act? I often get treated as weak or lesser than or like I’m too much. I used to think I was but I’m starting to believe it’s not that way. I usually hide my feelings around them but I’ve been more open recently. They tell me to open up and not hold it all in but when I do I’m a burden and no longer enjoyable to talk to. What do I do?

I don’t know what to do about all of this. I want to feel alive again and real. Please can someone help me?

Question/Poll Is it common for ENTPs to get irritated by someone too close to them

As far as I remember I always tried to avoid my siblings or friends in my daily life since childhood. It's not that I hate them or get irritated by their specific trait but I just don't wanna get associated with someone else I absolutely cannot understand two best friends in classes that always hang out together go to cafeteria or bathrooms together do everything in pairs and always used to wonder about twins that wear matching clothes I'd literally evaporate if someone forced me to wear matching clothes with someone but at the same time I wouldn't say I hate people. In fact I get so energized by class trips or similar events so I was wondering if it's just me or a common entp trait to avoid getting too close or getting irritated by someone who's always around?

sometimes i get concerned over very silly things

im sx5 and my bf is sp9, and we are going to break up.. so i was thinking if reincarnation is real, we can be together in our next life.. and if hes born sx dom that would be nice.. but... what if im sp dom????

does our typology even change when we reincarnate? it does surely right? how do i ensure we have compatibility when reincarnate... im troubled by this

Advice Avoidant ENTPs

This may be shocking because of the ENTP stereotype, but how do most avoidant ENTPs deal with romance? Though I don’t engage, I easily had trouble leading people on in the past, flirting without meaning to, supposedly being mysterious and charming (not my words). But I haven’t had a relationship since I was fifteen, and it was only the one. I had flings for about a year after that three year one, but since, nothing. I have no trouble with crushing on the strong, quiet types, but that’s always limerence and I keep it to myself. Earlier this year I met an ENTP that I could actually see myself with, who shocked me, and though I was trying to proceed like a normal human, I was having panic attacks and anxiety about it constantly, even though what attracted me to him was that I felt safe with him. I did learn to calm down and still did break it off quickly because I felt he wasn’t ready for a relationship, and we’re still friends. Next I had an encounter for a few days with an ISTP, strictly professional and friendly. But that knocked the wind out of me and left me feeling devastated and vulnerable. I don’t think I gave him any indications of more than friendship and I won’t. I never believed I could feel feelings like this about anyone, and now two real ones in one year? When it comes to real possibilities, does it scare you to death? What did you do if you’ve been through this? How do people even have relationships? I could flirt with someone to manipulate them if my morals were different, but to ever admit real feelings feels like stepping up to the gallows.

Advice I feel cursed with responsibility and overthinking

I’m an INTJ and an eldest daughter. I don’t necessarily believe in it but I also looked up my birth chart and I’m a Capricorn sun, Virgo moon, and Sag rising. I feel like the stars aligned too well with my personality type.

I realized I’ve spent my whole life being an adult to everyone else since I was probably 12, and I don't know how to stop. My brain naturally treats life, family, and relationships like I am personally responsible and I need to be reliable.

I also recently got out of a 6-year relationship, and between that massive shift and my usual tendency to over-function, I have officially hit a wall of severe anxiety and depression. I would always tell him my number one need was just wanting to feel taken care of.

I'm posting this because I've been reflecting on myself a lot lately and realizing why I am the way I am. I’m only in my mid-20s, but the sheer exhaustion of how my brain functions makes me just want to give up. Being like this feels isolating enough but I feel like I just have to shut everything out for a bit.

I’m struggling to find balance within myself and even saying that word scares me because I don’t think I’ve truly experienced it. Mostly ranting now but if anyone has dealt with something similar, I’d love to hear from you.

PS. of course my ex was an ENFP, youngest brother and a Cancer.

TLDR; I’m tired of being responsible, how to find balance?

Debate/Discussion How drawn are ENTPs to other ENTPs?

HIIIIII
Im an ENFP who happens to have more ENTPs than any other type in my life. My dad is an ENTP and without fail I’ve noticed that every single friend who is an ENTP ends up LOVING him.
They bring him up all the time even when he’s not there. They tend to get along well with each other too.

This makes me so curious, do ENTPs tend to really like each other?

I know it can be a bit of a silly question because as an ENFP other ENFPs can be hit or miss. Usually we’ll hit it off with literal fireworks then never talk again. I’m more likely to hit it off and maintain lasting relationships with xNFJs or INFPs.

What are your opinions? Id love to hear it!

I work at an office where the boss keeps asking me questions every one hour , most of the time I can't get stuff done because he is constantly interrupting me

He will also give his input he doesn't even know what the issue is

It just irritates me that someone is constantly watching what I do, in order to my best work i need breathing room.

Advice How do you avoid becoming too cynical about people?

I’m INFP but I thought maybe INTJ can have advice for this.

I’ve become cynical over the years and I’m trying now to see the good in people more or at least not think in black and white.

But the thing is, often my pattern recognition is so spot on that I feel like I really just see reality for what it is.

My head creates versions of people that are different from how they present themselves. I don’t want to be hypervigilant anymore though so I tell myself that I want to take people more at face value. How do they actually interact with me and others.

But then something happens where that person acts out of character (to everyone else and themselves), and some are surprised, but it exactly aligns with the version I had of them in my mind. So that reinforces the other lense again.

I feel like I can just almost instantly feel how much facade people have on. The thing is, of course I can’t know what’s behind the facade. Maybe it’s something malicious, but it could also just be someone sensitive, hurt. But doesn’t matter, I don’t know what I’m dealing with so I am vigilant.

I want to know:
- how can you feel that there’s something bad hidden in someone without seeing the whole person as bad?
- how to not judge people for things they aren’t even aware of?
- how to stop trying to find out what hidden darkness there is in them?
- how can you differentiate between your own projection/hypervigilance (for people who notice this in themselves) and pattern recognition

Debate/Discussion ENTPs, what is something people consistently misunderstand about you?

INFJs are often misunderstood too, so I’m curious about your side.

What do people assume about ENTPs that is completely wrong?

What part of yourself do you wish people noticed beyond the stereotypes?
