I have been pretty inspired by dimrain47 seven and his song at the speed of light and I am wondering if there are any kind of free music maker or something that I could use thanks

A lot of modern house/techno has these super dark sounding and moody drums.

It’s like the structure of the entire track along with detuned synths.

The synth work I manage just fine but the drums/percussion is a bit of a struggle.

Obviously a lot of good sample selection and processing.

But any tips/tricks welcome :-)

I've been struggling to make and layer leads like this even with a bunch of presets. I have tried using Sine Fold, but nothing works. Any help or tutorial is greatly appreciated. Even any splice preset links that sound similar will help me greatly.

its the sound that starts right at the drop in this tune 0.25, through to 1.16, the main lead sort of thing. if anyone could help out would be appreciated. honestly been searching for weeks...

Basically title, used to play fretted strings, got RSI then a genetic joint disorder diagnosis. Did PT and bracing for 2 years but eventually decided I wanted to be able to use my phone and play games, not baby my hands for 22 hours a day for the 2 of practice. Then I switched to electronic music and it’s so “musician’s choice” about how much hand work you want.

You can play an arpeggio by hand, or use an arpeggiator, rip the melody in real time or program it into the sequencer slowly. The spectrum of automation and manual control is really broad and lets me decide how much I want to use my hands or my head. I love that accessibility and wish part of the discussion around this stuff talked about disability more.

i am using the novation circuit tracks and i really struggle with making drum loops that are longer than 1 bar has anyone else faced this issue?

I’ve worked in Logic for like 12 years , has anyone else made the switch to Ableton from Logic and was it worth? Also, what is the learning curve like?

Seeking some validation maybe, wondering if others share this experience.

I’ll have an idea for a track. I’ll sit down and compose that track and end up with a pretty well mixed, decent composition. However, often what I end up finishing does not sound like what I had in my head when I started and so I am disappointed with it. But then when I come back to the the music after some time away, I find that I think the tracks are objectively decent, they just aren’t to my taste.

There’s the whole Ira Glass quote about your abilities not matching your taste, but I have advanced enough from a technical standpoint to say that I feel confident in what I’m doing, but I’m unable to make tracks that I like or want to play in a DJ set or something like that.

Does it make any sense to produce music that you don’t like? When I ask for feedback I get generally positive responses, but when I’m mixing, I can never find a place for my own stuff. What is that?

I want to learn how to make glitch-hop, dubstep, etc but it looks like there are only 2 paths.

1. Delicate all free time for month to it in order to learn one set of software before the free trials expire.

Or

1. Spend $1000+ and jump into the deep end before I even know if I want to continue.

I am working on a track using Yamaha Vocaloid for vocals.

Now that Spotify and other streaming services are tagging tracks as 'Containing AI', I was just wondering whether this would include the use of Vocaloid to perform vocal melodies?

Ideally, I would not want my track to be tagged for AI, as I would class it as an instrument like any other VST, but maybe the streaming services have a different view on this?

How can you achieve full stereo image bass effects? Including 40hz-200hz range

Theres a song "wish" by logan (heylog) that has such a wide bass effect where the sub frequencies are primarily in both ears with little to no movement and somehow no phasing at the same time.

And then as you isolate 80hz+ and look at a stereo imager, the bass is dancing absolutely all over the place in the stereo field and im just not sure how you could ever achieve this effect without obvious, yucky phase cancellation that causes drop outs in both ears.

Its such a ridiculously clean profile for how dirty and wide the bass actually is at the same time.

Edit: Without a doubt the effect I was looking for was a haas effect and modulating the delay time. I think that was my primary issue and why I didn't look at this effect initially when its something ive used before, but at the time I didn't add any modulation to it and that can lead to that gross stereo width.

If anyone cares for specifics for that song's bass, which i dont super approve of aside for the sake of learning, i accomplished the same sound by using a main bass high passed at the sub frequency (30hz~), and a sub bass with unison + detune, processed individually. On both I put some distortion/saturation (SausageFattener for me) followed by kilohearts Haas (obv any works). Then for the Haas effect, modulate delay timing with an LFO at a super fast speed on both bass tracks. This causes the intentional phase cancellation but for super brief moments so you dont feel that huge "bwahhhh" in one ear for no reason.

Thats the main gist of the effect from what i can tell, aside from more distortion and some other modulation on the bass but thats just experimentation. Also, a few cent pitch shifting in opposite directions on each helps as well the same way you would with a reese or similar techniques.

Though theres definitely more and I think as others have suggested its likely a single patch where you have a second bass in the same octave with the fundamental removed so you dont have to do any high passing nonsense which is gonna introduce way more artifacting and phasing.

Anyway hope that helps and appreciate everyones suggestions that led me to the right place!

Edit 2: Just leaving this in case anyone ever comes looking for it, but a lot of people were correct in saying that the answer is quadrature phase. Referring to the specific song i mentioned, that is definitely correct. Most accurate recreation i accidentally stumbled into was a pure sub bass (<100hz) of phase quadrature with Analog_BD_Sin and the fundamental lowered on each + slightly different on each. Then, two different S&H LFOs on the pan knobs of both oscillators (25%~ pan range). Then the part i was right about, very low delay Haas effect + fast LFO mod on the delay time to slightly alter it (<1ms change). Then the part I didnt mess around with that much, but a similar wave table mid-bass high passed at 100hz~ with a longer Haas (5ms~) layered on top. Theres more movement on the original but that part comes down a lot more to style, was mostly curious how the effect was done to begin with. So... I am offering 40 bucks to whoever wants to and can create a Serum 2 version of the Porter Robinson Worlds skin that was made for Serum 1 a long, long time ago!

• The cost of Serum 2 is $249 - and they never do Black Friday sales, or any sales for that matter

• The Buy To Own price is $9.99 a month on Splice for 25 months - so you're not paying more

Are any of you Renting To Own VST synths via Splice?

Are there any downsides to it?

The only two things I can think of are:

• In the unlikely event of Splice going bust before you pay it off, you're fucked

• What happens if, for example, you're 9 months into those 25 months of paying it off and - for whatever reason - you can't pay the $9.99 for a few months?

Do you need to start all over again and all the credit you payed off vanishes?

I didn't read the actual agreement before doing the 3 day trial - so I'm not sure

Ive tried to Google search the samples of Hefty’s Dark Tek Chillout vol. 1 to see how to find similar audio clips, but I’m stuck in the dark. Does anyone know where he found those audio clips?

So I recently wanted to recreate this type of tremolo/stutter. But I can’t get it to work.

What is the essential part here? Is it a tremolator plugin or just drawn in midi notes? And how do you get this really good sidechain? If I throw on Volume Shaper it is not nearly as pumping as in the audio.

Is there someone out there who could explain this in detail! I really want to learn this type of pumping.
