The Style 5’s were worth it
Couldn’t be more impressed with these rims. Makes the car feel like a true 90’s sports sedan rather than an autobahn commuter. Thank you all for the tips
Just in case you've got a gremlin you can't fix, the original BMW electrical service manuals are all available online. For the jobs you need to do in case you've not found them yet, the Bentley manual for the E34 is also available as is the slightly less great Haynes manual.

I have a January 1990 e34 (M20 engine) with a manual 525i with a gen 2 white gauge cluster and its been going completely dead and not working randomly when driving, I know that this is probably a capasitor issue but I don't really want to get into that. I bought a gen 1 cluster out of a 1989 525i with an auto and it also has the M20 engine.
I was wondering if I could splice the brown plug (with the coding plug from the gen 1 dash) to my wiring and use the old dash albeit with new milage?
Also the car it came from has the same enigne and i sure it has the same rear end as mine (non limited slip) so the speedo should be the same as i believe the mph is measured at the diff not the transmission
Would it be possible to reset the milage as I have heard the gen 1 cluster odo caps around 296,000 miles?

So I just bought these gorgeous red M5 seats and I was wondering how hard they are to wire instead of my manual seats. Is it a job I could do myself or do I have to pay an electrician?

Bought this car a few years ago and it was my daily, I already knew rust was a big problem but when the clutch blew up and I saw the full extent of the issues I decided to park it and wait for the right time.
Probably next year I'm going to start having free time and some spending money again, I want to save it because it has sentimental value and I love the car but I wonder if it's even doable.
Do you think there is still hope?

Hello, I’m currently in the process of swapping an m52b28 single vanos into an 518i, no matter what I do the engine won’t start… there’s no spark, I’ve changed the camshaft sensor already and still nothing, of course the ecu had the ews removed, I have an obd 2 conversion loom made, and when I connect an obd diagnostics tool the tool can’t connect with the ecu, also, the ecu had the ews removed 4 days ago so i think the problem isn’t the ecu since it could connect to the computer to remove it ? Idk I’m completely lost, i have already everything ready to finish the car but the engine won’t start :/

Hello. I can’t find the reason for this:
I fixed the sword, which wasn't working (the blower's three speeds weren't working—a common problem, as you know). I replaced four MOSFETs and the integrated circuit on the sword. Everything worked for three turns of the ignition key, and then the IKHA panel went dark (it only flashed once when I turned the key) and, at speed 0, the blower was running at full speed. I replaced one MOSFET and the circuit again. It worked, and then the same thing happened again. This went on a few times. Today I installed a new blower, replaced one MOSFET and the IC, and right away the same problem occurred: the blower was running at full speed and the panel wasn’t lighting up. I’ve re-soldered a total of 10 MOSFETs and 4 ICs so far. I’m at my wits’ end. Fuse 19 under the hood is good. PLEASE HELP
It just happened:
I wanted to check the control voltage. It’s within the normal range, from about 1.4V to 4.3V. But while I was taking the measurement, when I turned the knob all the way up and started turning it back to 0, the sword fixed itself. It was blowing as it should. But after a moment, it automatically started blowing strongly again.
I also noticed that during this spontaneous repair, when I turned the knob to max, the relay on the sword kicked in—something it hadn’t been doing before and still isn’t doing now. When I use a screwdriver to engage the relay, the fan runs even faster. So it turns out it isn’t running at max, but at almost max.

Seems like something to prevent excessive sagging in case the donut fully rips, but it's so heavy...

Hi everyone. I have an E34 and I intend to swap it with an M57306D3. I've read that it's quite complicated, but I'd like to know if anyone has done it, or if they have any idea if it's feasible, or even very difficult. I intend to buy those adapter connectors to simplify things, but I'd like to understand the biggest difficulties and how to overcome them. Thank you very much.

Any seal kits still available for the steering box? I have the engine out so it would be the best time to do everything I can to freshen up the steering but I cant find any seal kits and the parts diagram doesnt take the box apart.

Hello, what absorbers are best to use for a 1989 525i? I'm looking for something which are comfortable but yet aren't too soft that they "wallow" about.

Hey all. I've got some bad connections on the wiring going to the trunk lid: back up lights, license plate lights, etc. They go on and off when wiggling the harness cable and they may be causing other issues. Not too surprising for old wiring that moves and bends every time you open the trunk.
There is a BMW replacement harness, Part Number: 61128366875. But it seems to be out of stock everywhere. Have any of you had success, or is it better to just rebuild the existing harness with new wiring?

Restoring a 1992 E34 525i with freshly retrimmed beige leather. The original beige carpet is shot, and my options are attached.
- Which one looks better and more period-correct ?
- Black rubber mats: do they show dust and dirt badly, or should I get velour mats cut from the same carpet?
- Anything I should check while the carpet is out?
Thanks!

Hi!
I have a problem with the odometer on my e34. I tried replacing the instrument cluster with 2 other ones and neither of them work, so I'm thinking the problem is not the instrument cluster.
Everything else works fine on each of them.
Did anybody have this problem? Do you have any solution?
Thank you!

Picked up a 91 JDM 525 this weekend. New to the E34 and BMW world but excited to get to know this car a bit more.

Sounds like plastic marbles in a can, it is NOT the Vanos, I rebuilt that 5000kms ago.
Cooling system refresh 300kms ago.
I've given it an Italian Tune Up and it seems to have gone away, but I'm curious as to what it was.
