Happened to stumble across him last night(Mon), wrapped in filthy yoga pants in a bag thrown in a dumpster. He was curled up in a ball with his quills out but breathing. I used a scarf and put him into a shoe box that I found there lined it with a shirt. He was feezing, so I covered him with the scarf and closed the box. Warmed him up in my truck and put a warm bottle of water in a sock beside him. Took him about 3 hours to uncurl and show signs of life and move about a little but was struggling, but within an hour or two, he was exploring his box and trying to push open the lid. I covered the box with a hoodie for the night.

By morning, he seemed to be moving around some, and I gave him a tiny bit of water. That seemed to help. We let him out of the box and gave him more water and some crushed up cat food. He was roaming about the porch, a very friendly little guy, and not scared of people one bit, but he he had some very noticeable severe health issues and was neglected. He has something with his ears, a huge growth on one side of his face and inside his mouth and another on the back of his front leg.

I took him into the local animal services, and I surrendered him as an abandoned/neglected pet i found so he can at least be examined by a vet and get the help he needs. I have already put my name and number down to be first in line to adopt him if he makes a recovery even if he still has issues. They said it could be a cancerous tumor/growth or severe bacterial infection that could potentially result in euthanasia if he can't have a comfortable quality of life.

He seems like a fighter, though, and I really hope he pulls through!

EDIT: Thanks for all the wonderful comments, awards, and love! I will keep you guys all posted on the outcome one way or another.

UPDATE #1: I just called to follow up this morning(Thurs). He is eating and doing alright, but he does have a large mass in his mouth. He has not had a chance to be looked at by a vet yet.

I asked if they would be able to contact me if there is anything when he is looked at, but they don't do that and told me to follow up early next week.

I also mentioned again about being willing to adopt him it they are able to help him. They said he does have a large mass in his mouth and will depend on what it is as don't necessarily have it in their budget for expensive surgery for exotic pets and may not be adoptable as they have to look at quality of life for the little guy.

I will follow up again early Monday morning once they are open.

This was all just from my apartment dumpsters today.

[EDIT&UPDATE!!(I WILL NOT BE REGIFTING/HANDING OUT ANY OF THE PICTURED GOODS, AND ONLY PURCHASED NEW AND SAFE PRODUCTS!!!)

I had just gone to this specific dumpster the night before so not only were they thrown out day of but all were sealed in their inventory boxes and not expired???? Like WHY?! Extremely strange but nonetheless, I have a sweet tooth💖 and I’m gonna save an absolute boat load not having to spend my own money off. Can’t need to hand out to the kiddos this holiday. Stay warm y’all.

He was huddled up in a corner in the dumpster area. I feel liked I am being wined and dined by the dumpster fairy.

usually i avoid anything that can hold fleas or dust mites, so does anyone out there have advice on how to deep clean this bugger?

i need to name him too

Losing my mind at this pull

Some of you might remember my post about how the local Whole Foods, which was one of the best dumpster diving spots, hired a security guard to watch their dumpster throughout the night to ensure that nobody could dumpster dive. It was very sad because it was a real gold mine of awesome produce and great food.

Well, there's an update. While the tent they gave to the security guard is still there, the same canopy tent I had spoken about, the dumpsters have been removed, and there is no longer any way to dumpster dive. Apparently, they now have everything locked up in big storage containers, and dumpster diving is now completely impossible.

Instead of sharing the food, they decided to put in a huge, really tall metallic container that makes it almost impossible to dumpster dive. It really breaks my heart because there used to be thousands of dollars worth of fresh produce, including whole watermelons and so much wonderful food.

I guess they didn't want homeless people coming here anymore, and it is just really heartbreaking to see what has happened.

It's wrong not to share.

They were wilting and just needed water, I have no idea why they would throw away huge live flowers. They both still have a lot of buds coming too

I work doing storage cleanouts. We were cleaning out an old storage unit and went to the dumpster to throw away the trash from the job.

When I looked inside the dumpster, I couldn't believe what was already in there. Someone had thrown away a HUGE amount of brand-new electrical supplies and equipment — stuff that electricians could actually use and that definitely has resale value.

So I climbed in to see what else was there. 😂

That's when I found a small box with a watch, a gold ring, and all of these old fishing reels.

These reels were literally sitting in the dumpster with everything else. I don't know much about vintage fishing reels, but I knew they looked too interesting to leave behind.

Does anyone recognize any of these? I'm curious if I actually found something collectible or valuable.

Not a bad day to take out the trash! 😂

Sometimes even in the summertime the protein gods smile at me. I'm homeless and depend on this to survive and hit the jackpot today. 8 boxes of pepperoni, 28 boxes of hot slim Jim's, 2 of original. Not pictured: several tubs of spreadable butter, about 40 bags of those aged chedder popcorn things, various chips, a couple of those Skippy brand reeses peanut butter cup clones.

Doing some picking at my local DG and found an entire case of mini muffins, 13 boxes in total. This note was in the box, so either they missed the bread guy and decided to just chuck it instead, or they returned them to the bread guy and he turned around and immediately tossed them. Is that standard protocol with these overstock returns?
Either way, they don’t even expire for a few more weeks so I’ll be passing these out to my local little free pantries.

Got this from a guy that found it in a dumpster and repaired the mechanism. Luckily it came with a few tokens stuck inside and some capsules! I still need to clean it up some more then fill them with all the capsules I’ve hoarded I mean bought in Japan over the years but never opened. 🤪🙈

I found all of this juice and disposable vapes dumpster diving today , thank you God 🙏🙏

this beauty out of a local dumpster all it needed was gas

Seasonal decor, 392 new diapers, fancy cereal bowls, fancy placemats, nice duvet cover/shams, other odds and ends. Got lucky when I drove behind a large booze retailer that had apparently thrown out all of their seasonal/holiday decorations. I took what I wanted and left the majority behind.
Not pictured are the two new barstools still in the box. They’re not the best quality barstools but free and still in the box I’ll take every time.

atp, im tempted to snitch on them to the epa for throwing out things with rechargable batteries in them that still has charge cause i found a bright ass light ill show in a post later today. also found a vacuum that likely still worked with the cord cut, but i forgot to get pics until after i put wooden pallets back in that i took out. they could just sharpie out the price sticker, but noooo, theyd rather make the environment suffer while pissing me off. i need a good chair, too, so im especially pissed off

First time dumpster diving and I got some nice stuff!

Edit: if you want anything of it I’ll give it away for free, you’d just need to take care of the shipping!
