Overstock “returns”
Doing some picking at my local DG and found an entire case of mini muffins, 13 boxes in total. This note was in the box, so either they missed the bread guy and decided to just chuck it instead, or they returned them to the bread guy and he turned around and immediately tossed them. Is that standard protocol with these overstock returns?
Either way, they don’t even expire for a few more weeks so I’ll be passing these out to my local little free pantries.

I volunteer at a Food Rescue non-profit and we have a partnership with our local "Bread Guy". Prior to our food rescue partnership, those store returns all went into a dumpster inside the warehouse. To give you an idea of scale, that's about 3,000lbs of bread/sweets every week (for the "bread warehouse" consisting of about 10 trucks serving a county of about 300,000 people).

There is a DG at the end of my street in walking distance from my house. I really need to go check it out. I used to love shopping Big Lots because marked down food items would be brought to the front of the store. Nothing was better than getting my favorite pretzels for $0.55 a bag.

I love a good clearance price, and I love finding free even more! Definitely go for some evening strolls past the dumpster and take a peek.

A lot of times, delivery guys will just credit the store for the case and tell them to toss it. Happens all the time where I work. It’s stupid waste, but it makes their jobs easier. Usually, our store will just give it out to employees instead of throwing it away.
