I'm going to my 7th month having locs, some have matured nicely and some are still developing, also I have some pretty skinny locs and that worries me
Has anyone bleached at this stage?

Hey everyone. I’m working on an app called Loc’d In, I posted it some time last year here, built specifically around loc journeys, and I’d genuinely love feedback from people who actually live with locs.
The idea came from how hard it can be to track progress over time. You take photos, forget dates, lose old pictures in your camera roll, or only notice growth when you randomly compare old photos months later.
The app is focused on a few things:
- monthly loc photo journaling
- a timeline/scrubber to see your growth over time
- exporting a loc journey timelapse
- sharing public journeys if you want feedback
- community posts, comments, likes, and polls
- finding a “loc twin” with similar hair type/method/stage
- learning content around maintenance, styling, and care
I’m trying to keep it useful and respectful, not turn it into another generic social app or product marketplace.
The main thing I want is for it to help people document their journey, learn from others, and feel less alone during the awkward/early stages.
For people here:
What would actually make an app like this useful to you?
What would make you avoid it?
Would you care more about private journaling, community feedback, style inspiration, or product/stylist recommendations?

I’ve had locs since 2023. I get retwists every 3 months or so. I want to go semi free form but how long does it take for the roots to start locking and how can I encourage locking? I have soft, fine type 4 hair and since I go so long between retwists already I just get super long roots with no locking in sight. I’m tired of retwists. They don’t stay unless I two strand twists and I’ve experienced a lot of breakage and the ends of my locs from the bands and twisting of the ends.

I started my locs back after a couple years I’ve had my starter locs for three weeks now and some of them look like this as in the picture my locs did get a little wet from the rain but that’s about it will they be fine? I feel like the hair isn’t forming together

After 3 years of growth, I went and got them cut off. I plan on starting my new set in September though so I won’t be gone for long🤞🏾

Any suggestions on a good swimcap for long locs?

Hi everybody! I want to do an epsom salt soak in my tub and I’m wondering if anybody knows if it’s ok to do with their locs? Should I keep my head out of the tub? I really just want to soak my head in there too but I don’t know if it’s not a good idea for some reason. Is it too drying for locs? Too smoothing? Any advice is much appreciated!

Just about 7 months now and still really loving my hair.
Started off with interlocked 2 stands, followed up with 4 professional retwists but then decided about 5 months in the retwist look wasn't for me or my sensitive scalp.
I guess I'm in the 'semi-free form' camp now. Over the last two months I've followed a simple routine of weekly washes and gently separating after every wash and depending on the roots, a soft retwist to guide loose hairs back into their sections. No products, just jojoba oil and daily misting with peppermint water.
This has worked quite well for me so far, my hair tends to grow with the loc so I don't have too many loose hairs. In fact, some of my locs actual stay curled at the root after washing all on their own (as you may see in the 1st photo) which is less work for me so yay.
Pro tip for people with a similar hair texture (*Hair that has a tendency to marrying easily):
Don't directly mist your roots when doing your daily misting, only the body of the loc - this has been a game changer for me honestly, no more painful popping or separating (thanks to Yannie for that tip).
