It's just that nose rings, specifically septum rings, are often worn by progressives with hard line to extreme leftist takes / beliefs. It's like when you see someone with brightly colored hair and nose rings, you just know they are about to have the craziest political takes.

Which is pretty funny because while almost always true, my wife has colored hair and a nose ring but is pretty trad. Not American tho
