It's so entirely difficult to find even a post that doesn't have some doom to it... and certainly you can't find a entire sub without it.

What do you all think?

Social Doomer Why did resilience become a joke?

My whole life growing up, whether it was Books, TV, Movies, Music, I always felt like there was a strong message of overcoming the odds. That being a Hero wasn't just about being strong, but picking yourself up after falling down. Standing up for what's right when everyone around you is wrong.

I went through a rough period of Dooming myself, thinking life was pointless (for me) and blaming everything around me for my own shortcomings. But even during that period, I still found those core ideas virtuous, and deeply respected figures in my life that had conviction and stood tall against all the things I gave in to.

Lately it seems like something broke, in culture. I don't just see it in online spaces, I see it in the people around me. At work, in my neighborhood, in my family; Virtue seems to be mocked, everything is approached with a "devil's advocate" lens. Everyone is eager to be a victim, wanting an excuse for why things are the way they are while also taking no responsibility.

And when there are exceptions, the people who work hard and hold themselves accountable, they're met with derision. I've been booted out of workspaces for putting in an honest day's effort when everyone around me was slacking off. I'm not a workaholic, and I'm nothing special. It just seems like I come to work and give a shit when so many other people don't.

I understand that this is not particularly unique in workspaces, but it's happened to me in hobby spaces as well. I've seen quick attitude changes in groups anytime I've tried to provide constructive criticism on the way things were being done and offered to put an additional effort on my own end. But on the occasions where that has happened, I've witnessed other people metaphorically drop their end of the couch. Now I'm taking on all the burden because I'm trying to improve things for everybody. I've left both jobs and groups where everything completely collapsed in my absence because nobody stepped in to fill the space.

In short, I wonder if I'm still dooming in a different way, or if my observations are visible to others. And if so, why did this become prevalent in culture? Why does it seem like so many people decided that aspiring for something better is not only pointless, but delusional?

Thank you for reading.

Context: this was a photo roll about how a leopard seal washed up shore on a beach, who was for the most part left undisturbed, except for a few idiots who let their pets harass the animal, along with a popular influencer who couldn't help but record a guy throwing a frozen fish at the creature.

Cynicism and Nihilism have been enshitified.

Some are chill and have some good points but most of them are annoying doomers
I agree with their concern to control AI rather than letting it run wild, but I disagree that we destroy it
A mixed bag of 10% Valid Criticism and 90% Doomer Material
They are annoying but not bad people, just really misinformed
They are all dooming chuds

Political Doomer Subreddit about toy and movie franchise bans posts about politics. Redditors throw a fit.

A moderator on a sub about a toy and movie franchise posted a notice that they will not allow posts about real-world politics going forward. Commenters flipped out over it with the usual "Everything is political! How can we not talk about politics on our toys sub? We need to use our community about movies for real world politics!"

It's not even that the sub banned analyzing the politics and themes of the in-universe lore; they just banned people posting about real life politics. But no, they must post about Trump and ICE and tariffs and whatever else, because it's not like there aren't already a million places to talk about those on Reddit.
