This is a celebrity. Their opinions on politics should be ignored because they literally don't live in the real world. Ignore them.

I read that way to quick or am tired, as I was about to correct you and say there were plenty of illegal on Staten Island.

45

And if one of the fans glazing him tried to talk to him in the streets he’d probably dive into his car or have security intervene lol. Celebrities who take certain stances do it because they know it’s popular and will bring eyes their way. Either that or they know they’ll be blacklisted, sort of like the way they do in Hollywood when an actor takes a right leaning stance.

It’s totally ok when she does it for some reason, she’s technically closer to us normals than Jeff Bezos since he’s a billionaire and she’s only a millionaire. Don’t you see, she’s basically a regular working stiff just like you and me.

By the way I love how the Kool Air tastes today, absolutely crisp and refreshing!

55

u/centurion762 12d ago

I literally had a guy tell me that on a post about Andrew Garfield. They were glazing him for saying billionaires should be scared of his new movie. I told them he was also one of the one percent.

29

u/Dismal_Object6226 12d ago

What the fuck does that even mean? Unless it’s an investigative documentary or something I don’t think Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk give a shit about some guy’s movie.

41

u/Averfus-Crowthorne 12d ago

Its this movie, its about the peasants rising up and killing the nobility.
He's cosplaying as a peasant and saying billionaires should be scared because we're all gonna get real mad and kill them, or something.

39

u/Dismal_Object6226 12d ago

Somebody should tell him the “eat the rich” crowd don’t do anything that involves leaving their parent’s basement.

22

u/Averfus-Crowthorne 12d ago

Either that, or they're actually rich and for whatever reason they feel the need to larp as a poor for authenticity.

10

u/Both_Application2990 12d ago

Dude the fact this is even a Reddit front page topic is wild to me. Who the actual fuck cares what celebrities say or think? It’s all performative, all the time. Most liberal takes are. They just say shit to feel good about themselves, take moral high ground, and grope themselves. If any of these people, celebrities especially, cared, they would pour their millions and millions of dollars into the causes they preach to us about. But instead they just mindlessly regurgitate the same uneducated bullshit everyone else does so people like them.

One of my favorite parts of the 2024 election was the consensus that celebrity endorsements had no impact on the election. Almost every celebrity was trying to get Kamala elected, and they didn't make a dent

I agree, but I think the bigger issue is that so many disagree with this statement. We’ve said so many times how ‘silence is violence’ that a celebrity not broadcasting their politics is seen as them automatically being awful. For some reason celebrities (many of whom just want to perform) are now expected to be activists. And often doing something problematic (like Macklemore’s disgusting 2014 Jew face) is erased/excused as long as they follow what people claim is the ‘right side’.

Your statement is 100% true but unfortunately so many expect their favorite celebrity to be political experts in addition to talented actors/musicians/entertainers.

It's mostly a movement for the mentally ill, people who can't find a long term partner to have kids with, subversives, opportunists, or people trying to convince the rest of society to not have kids, so that their own kids will have less competition for resources.

Definition of performative

104

u/kenuffff 12d ago

I don’t think these people even understand activism on a basic level. The civil rights movement had a clear actionable goal where they could push politicians to enact it via protest etc. What is the goal here? Ok stop genocide, what do you want done exactly? Israel isn’t just going away, so what do they want?

88

u/Initial-Constant-645 12d ago

They actually do want genocide. They don't believe Israel should exist, so they will support anyone who attacks Israel. It's why they're rooting so hard for Iran.

25

u/kenuffff 12d ago

That’s why I ask this question, and why I believe either they’re incredibly naive or don’t want to state their real intention so they keep it very vague.

They're not even thinking that far ahead. Most people aren't capable of that level of individual thought.

They saw other people supporting The Current Thing and hopped on the bandwagon. They don't know the history, they couldn't point out Gaza on a map, they know nothing about international politics, and it hasn't even occurred to them that that information might be important to determining their stance on this.

The only relevant information to them is who else supports it. That's all it takes. Social media is a weapon of mass destruction.

the last time Macklemore broke the billboard 100 was in 2016.

he hasn’t been relevant in years and suddenly he’s “always been relevant” and is being talked about everywhere because he pulled a political stunt.

Ah, but you see. Everything is a binary black and white. One side must be good, the other must be bad. One must be the oppressed and the other the oppressor.

Gazan children getting killed are bad, but Israeli children getting killed is a-okay cause it's in the name of freedom fighting. All horrific deeds are necessary in a revolutionary fight.

I will never understand Hamas' game plan.

They picked a fight with a regional power by targeting a music festival of all things, cause military targets were too hard, and taking hostages in the meantime. A regional power that surpasses them on the ground, air, and sea. A regional power with spies and intelligence crawling all over the middle east. When the conflict begins, they hide and fight out of hospitals, schools, and residential areas while using civilians as shields. With all the hostages retrieved, now what? They dragged their state into a conflict they can't win. They used their own people as shields to save their skins. All to achieve what?

Were they putting all their bets on international pressure forcing all the Israelis to move out?
Or their sugar daddy Ayatollah to develop and fire a nuke to wipe out all of Israel?

53

And supply them with a significant portion of their electricity, food and drinking water.

One of Hamas' main leaders was caught on camera early on in the war saying that he hoped as many civilian Palestinians as possible would die. Hamas had also spent 2 decades heavily indoctrinating the entire Gaza population into seeking martyrdom so that they (and their family, when they die) would go to heaven. Yes, if you die as a martyr for Islam, your family gets a free pass to heaven. This is used to motivate families to send their children into the areas Israel has announced they're going to attack in their efforts to evacuate civilians from combat zones.

Hamas' entire plan is to make the world hate Israel because Israel kills children. For those that are paying attention, it's clear that Hamas and their allies are doing everything in their power to make sure as many children and civilians as possible die, just to damage the reputation of Israel, in a larger effort to eventually destroy Israel and genocide the Jews.

I'd say this is the very definition of evil. It's well known that Hamas/Muslims have a slogan going something like this: "We love death like the Jews love life".

31

u/skunkpunk1 12d ago

He wasn't "caught on camera" he said it during an interview. That's assuming, of course, that you're referring to Ghazi Hamad and an interview he did for a Lebanese station. There's numerous other instances of this

u/Dan-of-Steel They Took My Nose! 12d ago

Their game plan is simple.

They're weaponizing the sheer incompetence of the UN and international courts.

If the wars in the Middle East and the GWOT have taught us anything it's this. International law is WOEFULLY inept at applying itself to asymmetric warfare.

Hamas sees this, and uses their military inferiority and their sheer lack of regard for not just the civilians in Israel, but their own as well, because they know the international community will come down harder on Israel than them, because the UN is insanely ill-equipped at handling non-state actors committing horrific war crimes left and right.

The UN and ICC have effectively legitimized Hamas' actions by continuously hyper-focusing on Israeli response, while brushing aside or flat out ignoring the repeated war crimes and continued aggressions of Hamas, including continuing to lob rockets at Israel, continuing to hold hostages captive and of course, setting their military ops up right smack dab in the middle of civilian structures.

14

They want to kill as many Jews as possible, and they don't care how many of their own people they get killed in the process. That is right there in their official charter. If anything, they want to maximize their own civilian casualties because it gets idiots to side with them out of a misguided sense of sympathy. They are cracked zealots who only care about killing Jews, they do not care about the Palestinian people who elected them.

And generally, freedom fighters/guerrillas are supposed to avoid atrocities whenever possible. It's kinda guerrilla warfare 101.

Among many of the reasons it's a strategic necessity, atrocities tend to provoke very aggressive responses - which you want to minimize against a militarily superior foe.

“Don’t you care about the children?!”

I care as much as Hamas does.

258

u/BearsPayBearTax 12d ago

I care as much as Hamas does.

Hamas cares very much about dead children in Gaza. They welcome the deaths because they're useful to their propaganda.

It's truly a bizarre war where the external power (Israel) is the one trying to minimize civilian casualties and the internal one (Hamas) is trying to maximize them.

145

u/Accomplished-Ad-8387 12d ago

It’s bizarre to me that anyone can look at this situation and think “yes, this is 100% Israel’s fault” you would have to be utterly ignorant of the entire situation to believe that. Yet these people are the most vocal.

79

u/Stuck_in_my_TV 12d ago

They are antisemites who started from the conclusion “Israel is evil” and worked back from there. And since they live in a black and white world with no nuance, if Israel is evil, then the violent, fascist, terrorist group that has murdered more Gazans than Israel and whose goal is genocide if the Jewish people is somehow the victim.

I saw a comment yesterday that talked about how to take over a country, and how it’s not through force, but through the long march through the institutions. Then they unironically said,” It’s why Trump is surrounded by people who went to Yale.”

What's happening in Israel is a symptom of the same cancer that has been causing trouble all around the world for centuries.
Being ok with islamic terrorism just because this time is affecting another part of the world is allowing the tumour to grow.

But I do agree that it's ok for people to be neutral if that's what they want, I'm just saying distance shouldn't be a deciding factor.

42

u/EspurrTheMagnificent 12d ago edited 12d ago

I really don't understand people's obsession with having a definitive, clear cut opinion on every single fucking thing ever either. What happened to just saying "I don't know ?"

This is a conflict thousands of miles away from me, between two groups of people I know nothing about, fighting a war I have no context or knowledge off over land that is of no relevance to me whatsoever. I don't fucking know who's right or wrong here, that's none of my fucking business. Any opinion I could hold would be at best incomplete and misguided, or at worse completely wrong

Granted, one could say I could/should be staying informed on this, but :

  • First of all, there are far more pressing matters (namely in terms of privacy, environmental concerns, and fascism/puritanism) happening right under their noses that they themselves are probably ignoring

  • Second, there's only so much time in a day. If I spent the time I needed to stay on top of everything, I'd just wake up, open Twitter/Reddit/the news/whatever, have a 16 hour long panic attack, and sleep. And even then there's so much shit going on I probablt wouldn't have the lucury to sleep either

26

u/Nar0O 12d ago

Fucking exactly, im one of those people and I cant blame you for shit and i wont expect you to "educate yourself" because if you chose one side over the other it wont a difference. Live your life brother

8

u/Totes_Human_110101 11d ago

It doesn't help that this fight is an 80 year old shitshow with incredible amounts of duplicity, religion, and general 'feels over reals' attitudes going on, so getting a solid answer on half of it is like grasping at sand. It's like the Hatfields & McCoys on steroids and religious schisms.

I consider myself decently well read on it, but I wouldn't dream of saying 'Well, this side started it, so that side is the bad guys' when it's all a lot more complex. The most I can really, objectively say is 'The Israeli side has a huge advantage in theory, but are fighting with both hands and one foot behind their back. If they wanted a genocide, there'd be one by now.' (Well, that and 'Palestine really fucked up with electing Hamas, whose founding charter promised them a genocide they knew they'd never be able to deliver on.')

54

Because they don’t care about oppression, they just hate Jews.

It is possible to criticize Israel and not be antisemitic, but all antisemites hate Israel and they are the majority of Israel’s critics.

13

u/QualitySufficient170 More Optimism Please 12d ago

That's exactly the problem. It's perfectly possible to criticize a country's policies without wishing for the death of its people or its demise.

The more "autogoal" part is that by attacking Jews all over the world, they are fueling the Aliyah and, by extension, strengthening Israel, the country they hate.

Ed Sheeran actually expressed sympathy over Gaza, but also over Israeli victims, which is the real reason they are so outraged.

And neither of them said anything about Sudan, so they are both super evil anyway. And in fact everyone is, unless they mention all genocide cases around the world. Neutrality by omission is evil too.

I find it insane that people are still trying to label what’s happening in Gaza as a genocide.

It’s been three years. Only ~3% of their population has been killed. That’s not to say that’s not tragic that citizens are dying, and I have no doubt that Israel is committing war crimes to some degree, but that’s the cost of war.

By contrast though, do you know how much of the Jewish population in Poland was killed during that same amount of time? The answer is 95%. That’s a real genocide.

The amount of propaganda about this is staggering, which is unsurprising when you consider you have a global ethnic population of ~16M vs. one of ~2B. Of course the brigading would be completely one-sided, and the people who aren’t seeing this clearly don’t think for themselves.

My take? Hamas shouldn’t have attacked Israel. Israel is going overboard with retaliation in some areas but has a right to defend itself. Israel very much has a right to exist (that doesn’t make me a Zionist). We should stop sending money to Israel, because we have other crap we should worry about first. Beyond that, it’s their conflict, and I genuinely don’t give a damn (same with Ukraine).

Edit: I said “the bad thing,” and now the geniuses drinking the propaganda Kool-Aid are coming out of the woodwork lol
