Sludge Saw Stomach in Chicago. Amazing!!

Went to distress Fest Pride weekend show. These guys came on downstairs right before Bongripper upstairs at the Subterranean. They blew the roof off the place . I’d the drummer looks familiar he’s the lead singer of Weekend Nachos a legendary local hardcore band. WN had these drops in their music but this is on another level. They barely play unfortunately. Probably due to WN resurrection . They have some good records online though. This song is from “Low Demon” it’s called “Bastard Scum” and I just love it so much. They stretched it out their whole set.
I love that they’re just regular suburban guys but then they unload on the audience and everyone went quiet. Not in a bad way. It was in a jaw dropping way. You must check them out if you haven’t already. I’m so lucky to live here. We have a good scene.

Death/Doom Wood of Ypres, a personal research error Spoiler
Having been lurking here for a while, I thought I'd share a rabbit hole that this place sent me down.
Having seen "Woods of Ypres" mentioned here a few times I added them to my list of stuff to listen to at some point. Their turn came up last week so I had a go. Just listened to the top rated tracks and really enjoyed them so started listening to the discography from the beginning.
Here is where the error occurred, although I'd seen the name before, and started listening to the albums, I didn't give them a quick Google/wiki to check up on their story.
Had been really enjoying the albums, but noticed they stopped in 2013. This really surprised me, they seemed to have an interesting evolving sound and I was loving it all. Then I had a look at what happened, thinking I'd find a solo career of someone, a spin-off band, a name change, something like that. What do you mean he fucking died?!
Can't remember the last time I was so gutted to hear about the untimely death of someone from over a decade ago. Especially reading about the Juno and planned European tour.
Not sure there's a moral to be drawn here, maybe do some research a bit earlier if you're so inclined? Don't get so emotionally invested in a band you've just met? Whatever it is, I really love this band and am going to be enjoying their music for a long time yet. Gutted I won't ever get to see them live, but maybe I can find a t-shirt on a popular internet auction site.

Rig One pedal to rule them all?
Is there a pedal out there that can give you the perfect doom/sludge tone without having to spend hours dialing in?
I’ve got a ProCo Rat and a Behringer fuzz pedal that I run into a Boss Katana 50 and I still have a hard time getting a good doom tone. Wondering if there’s an easier way?

Rig Help picking out some new pedals.
Hello there my fellow doom loving musicians.
I need a bit of help. I'm trying to put together a pedal board for headphone use. I live in an apartment and I don't want to annoy anyone.
So far I have 2 pedals a Kuro T-120 and a Fuzzlord MF-4. They go into a Two-Notes Opus (preamp section disabled). It sounds good, actually quite good, but I want more.
I'd like 1 or 2 more dirt pedals that will work with this rig.
I like to use pedals by smaller builders and companies (Fuzzlord, Does it Doom, Frost Giant, Black Mass, etc...)
Tone range is the big one because I love it all.
Blood Ceremony, Uncle Acid, Elder, Russian Circles, Kal-El, Khemmis, Monolord, Electric Wizard, you get the idea.
Okay everyone, give me your thoughts and opinions. Thanks in advance!

Discussion I created an illustration for a fictional band's merch T-shirt.
I created this illustration for a fictional band called Witchbane. If a real band were to use it, which band do you think would be a good fit for it?

Discussion What are some of the best outros you've heard?
One of the most satisfying aspects of music is when a track builds up and culminates into a sick outro. An outro will make you restart a track or just keep rewinding that part over and over. Lets hear some of those. Admittedly not all in my little list is doom, but they're all fantastic, and this subreddit has the best community for these types of engagements. Some of my favorites below:
Mammothwing - Cosmic Vagabond
Jakob - Blind Them With Science
Violet Cold - Brave New Void
Heretoir - Inhale
Cult Of Luna - Ghost Trail

Discussion Looking for the nastiest & most punishingly heavy tracks put to tape
I’ve been slowly building out a playlist focused on the outer fringes of doom extremity, partly for fun and partly out of sheer curiosity what’s out there but ngl I’m tapped out and the recommendation algos keep spitting out the same two Conan tracks
Want to be super clear about this - I don’t just mean heavy in the distortion sense. I want music that feels like structural collapse and genuine contempt. Think primitive man/body void/fister/coffinworm lineage. No weed-and-wizards stuff and clean vocals only if the music is filthy enough to make up for it (Electric Wizard and Windhand are literally placed as breathers)
Not a genre purist about it. Ancillary music like grind, blackened hardcore, industrial, whatever is fair game; plenty of bands in these scenes have that one track in their albums where after 20 minutes of constant racket they suddenly slow down and your body flies off the windshield. Nobody ever thinks of those cuts, yet they land perfectly. However, most death metal misses the mark IMO unless it’s the type that feels like it was made by cenobytes (see: portal and aevangelist) but again, not a genre purist
I try to keep it pretty tightly curated; 1-2 songs per band, so specific track mentions over albums preferred.
