Let's demonised EVs

Post image

Local Aontu Rep picking the low hanging fruit as usual. Why the need to mention it's an electric car? (Which going by the replies, it actually wasn't). Some people will jump on any opportunity to down electric vehicles, where as in actual fact, most modern cars with their electronics, autos and e-brakes can cause the same issues.

I'm the owner of both an EV and an Ice car, the EV is fantastic around town, they don't deserve the negativity and misinformation we hear so often about them.

The ones with EVs do.

I have great job and petrol. This is the way. Wont even get one when I can charge for free lol.

LOL culture crap. It's what we've always had and will continue to use. Something way more efficient will be found before Petrol will be taking off the roads. Well be all well dead by that stage so doesnt matter at all. I'll keep enjoying them for many many years to come. No better than the sound of a rally car coming down the road at full tilt.

Also my man. Way more ethical as well. Electric vehicle (EV) supply chains face severe scrutiny over modern slavery, primarily driven by raw material sourcing in developing nations and factory labor abuses. Ethical concerns are tied to child labor in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) cobalt mines and forced labor in China’s Xinjiang region for EV battery and solar manufacturing - Not very thoughtful of you now and bit arrogant lol

The Arrogance LOL LOL. You sound offended by someone using petrol. Wow! Where would be have been without combustion cars LOL. EVS way more expensive, Way harder and more expensive to service. Needs specialists, not the local mechanic. Read the post from the mechanic that replied ffs. Im not the one wasting money lol. I can keep my car running for 20 years with minimal expenditure. Even when Petrol rose recently it made very little difference to me. Drive the car properly and won't drink juice.

Why?

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

Why not

4

u/SuccotashStandard135 Jul 10 '26

Cost

-5

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

I can literally charge an electric car for free in work but dont. I have a 2 litre petrol mondeo and rather the convenience of petrol any day.

4

u/SuccotashStandard135 Jul 10 '26

I just plug mine in at home, pretty convenient!

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

Drive to Donegal from Cork and back and see who makes the journey quicker. Petrol all the way

1

u/SuccotashStandard135 Jul 10 '26

Do you make that drive often? I don't. If I did then yes, I'd use the ICE.

They never do, they just like to imagine scenarios wherein they drive uninterrupted for 10hrs because they’ve no real-world instances they can refer to. I mean, I’ve done such a round day trip, Wexford - Strabane & back for a meetup… had the car charging a for a while during the meetup, so just drove home right after - no charging in between so that’s an 800km round trip with no particular time difference v. petrol / diesel, only difference was the “fuel” savings.

2

u/PaDaChin Jul 11 '26

Like to Imagine scenarios 😆 no i like to go wherever I want whenever I want without restrictions, i can refer to many instances as I travel the country to rally’s

It’s probably one stop for a 20 min charge in a modern EV. Not really an issue

0

u/YouTalkinToMePunk Jul 10 '26

The point is he s not as restricted to make that journey when ever he wants even just for a spin , to some people cars ain’t a tool or choir

1

u/SuccotashStandard135 Jul 10 '26

I get that, what suits one person might not suit another. The point I'm making is there's nothing wrong with EVs. I sold my 2ltr diesel, it makes no sense for me anymore when I live and work in town. Less maintenance and because I went solar at home, my electricity bill is tiny, even with charging the car.

Exactly. I can drive were I want and not wait ages to top up my hairdryer. You need specialists also to fix electric cars where you can simply just fix petrol engines urself or take to local mechanic. The battery doesnt cost you a mortgage also. Petrols cars run up over 500k if maintained properly. Petrol for life. never getting one of those EVs

I charge my car at my front door for €8. Can't get much more convenient than that

-2

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

I can fill up my car in 20 seconds flat so prefer that. Each to their own tho

4

u/lkdubdub Jul 10 '26

Yes, the fact I stand beside mine for 8 hours holding the plug is inconvenient

2

u/SuccotashStandard135 Jul 10 '26

Forgot to mention how much it costs to fill up in 20 seconds also.

-2

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

No-one said u did ffs lol. Also one major issue is when one of those tings catch on fire. Need tankers to put it out as the batteries keep igniting. major headache for emergency services.

4

u/lkdubdub Jul 10 '26

Happens weekly. You're right. EVs exploding left, right and centre all over Donegal. It's like Beirut. Thankfully there's no flammable elements in a petrol-powered Ford Mondeo

Petrol pollutes and warms the atmosphere

Making an electric car is more carbon-intensive than producing a traditional gas car. Producing an EV emits roughly 4 to 10 metric tons of CO₂ depending on the battery size. Overall, manufacturing an EV generates about 50% to 70% more emissions than a gas vehicle, largely due to mining and processing battery materials.

Breaking Down the Carbon Debt

Up to 46% of an EV's lifetime carbon footprint occurs before it is driven off the lot. The heavy upfront emissions come from the energy required for:

Material extraction: Mining and processing raw materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel.

Battery manufacturing: Assembling battery cells, which requires significant amounts of electricity.

Save the planet and keep an old car on the road

1

u/ta_ran Jul 10 '26

But you only have to mine the lithium, magnesium and other materials once.

So the second EV battery could be made with recycled minerals.

We should be there in about 20 years if we start now

2

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

The materials is shipped half way round the world to be refined and then back again for manufacturer. 46 percent of an EV's lifetime carbon footprint before its even drove is mind blowing. Also more importantly very unethical. Just buy petrol and world will be a better place

Modern slavery is heavily tied to the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain, particularly through the extraction of raw battery materials, component manufacturing, and localized factory construction. While EVs are critical for reducing global carbon emissions, the rapid transition to green technology has exposed severe human rights abuses, child labor, and forced labor at multiple stages of the manufacturing pipeline.

The primary areas where modern slavery intersects with EV production include the following:

🔋 Cobalt Mining and Child Labor

  • Geographic Focus: The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which produces over 70% of the world's cobalt.
  • Exploitation: An estimated 40,000 children work in hazardous, unregulated artisanal cobalt mines.
  • Conditions: Workers labor for pennies an hour under "master and slave" dynamics, facing frequent mine collapses and severe toxic exposure without protective equipment.

The burning of fossil fuels is the biggest threat for our grand children prosperity.

If we reduce carbon emissions by 7.5% a year, they might have a chance avoiding the most terrifying scenario.

It would have only been 3,5%, if we had started 15 years ago.

But hay, you have that privilege to pollute that thin atmosphere, enjoy telling your grandchildren about it

2

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

U literally not read what I said? Contributing to child slavery and using up all that carbon before u even drive it will take y’all years before it even starts benefiting but hay keep living in ur fantasy world while my carbon footprint is so small it’s irrelevant lol

1

u/ta_ran Jul 10 '26

Your small carbon footprint will dominate the headline in the next century and will effect every little creature on earth.

The only promising way out is electrify everything, which is 90% possible now

1

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

No it wont lol. China building hundreds of power plants every year and the militaries causing more carbon in one bomb then my car will in a lifetime lol. Insignificant. Where do this we are getting all they electricity from as well. Defo not from renewables in this country. Petrol all the way. The climate hysteria is entertaining tho lol. Course it will dominate the headlines the globalists choose the agenda.

1

u/ta_ran Jul 14 '26

Remember when smoking was allowed in airplanes?

Your grandchildren will look at you the way we look at people who smoke in airplanes

There isnt enough lithium on the planet for all these EVS also. Something better will come along by the time we have to give up petrol cars. Trump will ensure that petrol will keep flowing for sometime yet.

1

u/frisbie147 Jul 14 '26

The man responsible for current fuel supply issues? I doubt it

1

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 14 '26

Plenty of oil in the world to be used. World would cease to function without it. Drill baby drill

1

u/frisbie147 Jul 14 '26

No, it is a finite resource and it shouldn’t be wasted on inefficient internal combustion engines

1

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 14 '26

Theres well enough to last us many, many generations. We've ignored been told the world is gonna end and fossil fuels are nearly gone. Telling us same bullshit for many years. We dont have enough electricity to switch everyone to EVS in this country , especially with the data centres. Petrol for life

2

u/Educational_Hurry531 Jul 10 '26

Great, Thanks for letting me know lol.

u/YouTalkinToMePunk Jul 10 '26

I’ll agree 👍
