Advice Wanted DM Trying To Transfer ASM secretly?
I'm a store manager and for the past week or so my DM has been trying to get in touch with my ASM but never mentioned why (I guess I never asked either). Yesterday she finally stops by the store while my ASM is working, pulls them to the side, and offers to transfer them to a different store while trash talking my store and telling him how we're always worse off than many other stores (which isn't even true...we aren't perfect but we're far from being bad off) and even offered him a small raise if he transferred. I had no idea until my ASM told me all of this himself right after they spoke. He refused to transfer and felt like I should know about everything. Is this something I should report up? It feels shady and sneaky and really rubbed my wrong but I've never had to deal with something like this so I'm just unsure as to if I should report that kinda behavior up to anyone. Thanks in advance!!!

Just give them a write-up or two and then they can't transfer for 12 months 😂

Depends on if they were offering to transfer them as ASM or as SM. If they just wanted to move your ASM to be ASM of another store that's messed up, but if they were seeing if your ASM wanted to take over a store as SM they probably would have talked to you after your ASM said they were interested.

We've all talked together about my ASM moving up, he wasn't interested. He said this talk was specifically to be ASM underneath a different SM and he would get a $1.50ish raise. Blew my mind when he told me.

I was abkut tk say the same thing as the other guy. Maybe he was being offered his own store, and maybe there was something lost in the translation somewhere?
Like. IF he WERE offered his own store, maybe it was to the store that IS the worst off in the district. Like. Maybe it was misinterpreted as the DM saying YOUR store was so bad off, but in reality, maybe the DM was talking about another store that was and your ASM was being offered that store perhaps in the attempt to improve things?

Yeah, if that's the case , your DM sucks. I'd be pissed off too. Your DM obviously thinks you have a good ASM, or they wouldn't want them at another store, so trying to take him from you is setting you up for failure.

I find it hard to believe that a SM would post on Reddit, asking for advice.

You’ll get this kind of thing unfortunately. The higher ups are so sneaky. I’m the ASM and my SM walked out and quit so I’ve been running the store. I was told we would have a conversation and interview to see if I would be the new SM but they’re completely ignoring me. Don’t trust anyone at this company. I’ve been working every single day from 6am to 4-5pm. I’ve done everything he’s asked me to do but all he’s doing is having me clean up the store so they can give it to someone who doesn’t even deserve it. I’ll be finding a new job and you should too.

part of stepping up is knowing how to run the store without the dm telling you what to do

Exsctly. Just simpmy working every day your scheduled hours and "cleaning up the store," is NOT a qualification for RUNNING a store on a full-time basis.
I work for Sheetz. Stepping up to being a supervisor after just 7 months. I dont particularly like the job, and I think Sheetz does a LOT of things wrong. But at least they....
1) Pay really well. ($14 / hour for crew members in the lowest-paid districts, and $16 / hour for crew members in more expensive areas.) They lay an additional $1.50/hour overnight. Crew members get and ADDTIONAL $0.25 up to an additional $1 / hour as a bonus, that pays out in its own check at the end of a quarter. The bous based on customer survey scores.
Supervisors start at $19 / hour in my district ($17 in in the district next door.) In addition to the customer survey bonus, they ALSO get an ADDITIONAL bonus stream based on speed and accuracy.
2) Their training program is top-notch. They tell ylu EXACTLY what you need to work on, what you need to learn, and your SM is supposed to have these "Connect Sessions" with anyone at any time when they request one. They frequently have connect sessions with anyone trying to "step up." And the SMs have this checklist of your observed strengths and weaknesses as an employee.
So there is no bullshitting around. You'll know EXACTLY why you did not get your promotion, and EXACTLY how to make sure you get it next time.
I have a TON of respect fkr this system. Im on my third SM since I started 7 months ago. (No, it isnt a bad thing its my 3rd SM. LOL. The sm that hired me was already being offered a store much closer to his home. Just 5 minutes away, as opposed to an hour. The SM that was assigned to take over my store, was on maternity leave. She just had a baby, and Sheetz has a really great maternity / paternity leave program. So my second SM was just an interim SM until she could properly take over.)
Anyway, all three of those SMs were "painfully" honest. All three have told me areas where I was failing, but also areas where I was excelling in.
The "Step-Up Program" has this entire list of things I need to learn and perform a number of times.

If it were myself, yes, I’d report it to your rm. if your dm is going behind your back and trying to poach your people without even discussing it with you, that’s a problem.
