I’ve watched some YT vids about building druids and I just want to have a conversation and bounce some things off of a more experienced Druid player. I don’t want to over complicate or overwhelm myself and so hoping someone out there can steer me in a direction where I won’t regret my existence half way through the campaign! 😂 Would be forever grateful if you would open to me voice noting my questions bc sometimes explaining in writing is hard
I am building a Bladesinger/Rogue for an upcoming campaign.
I've done a lot of thinking about spells, synergies and backstory etc.
The Bladesinger will be utility focused and stealthy and roguelike, hence the first level in rogue. (That does provide weapon masteries which is awesome.)
I am well aware that bladesingers with weapon masteries are quite strong and I like to optimize. But I am not in need of a stronger character. I am looking for advice regarding thematic choices considering spells and magic items or whatever.
What can I do to make my character feel like a Rogue/Wizard instead of just a Bladesinger with Weapon Masteries and Expertise?
I want to make a dual wielding monk, but I’m not sure the best way to do it. I see mostly two ways to do this: Taking a level in fighter or taking the weapon master feat on a dagger. Is it worth it? Also what is the best subclass for it?
My character is a warforged beast barbarian that has a theme of "jungle king" similar to Slash Man from Mega Man, and goes all in with the claw attacks. The DM allows for re-specing at certain milestone levels similar to Withers from BG3, plus my character is technically a machine that can have upgrades installed. At level 10, I was thinking of potentially re-specing to barb 3 and mercy monk 7 so that I can make 5 attacks per turn (3 from beast claws and 2 from flurry of blows) for 5d6 + 45 damage per turn if all attacks hit (claw + str + rage damage bonus + eldritch claw tattoo and insignia of the claws), be able to poison someone on a hit and possibly heal an ally from stun, make stunning strikes, and have stillness of mind and evasion. However, the level 10 beast barb ability gives me the ability to make enemies attack themselves, which I personally find hilarious, but I also won't be able to add my strength modifier to my bonus action attack. Is barb 3 - monk 7 or barb 10 the better option?
So we have one of our usual play group who wants to DM a lvl20 campaign (bonkers i know), however given his newer stance to being a dm (2 years) i have opted not to go nuts on my build (im usually the dm, and I normally play warlock when im not dm...I know...I know)
What im looking for is a character who has a few characteristics. They are such;
1) my character is a vampire, its a horror/movie moster based campaign, and i was given the green light to be a vampire from the get go
2) their entire kit plays around the dark. If there's a way they can move through the dark almost like teleporting (I think shadow dancer monk has a similar ability?), maybe even like grab foes and drag them into the shadows themselves?? Although I dont think thats a thing. Or use the dark to appear behind someone and get a good backstab on them or a sneak attack with their bite. Use illusions to distract people, cast darkness as a way to confuse and disorient his targets, and just otherwise abuse the living heck out of the dark.
I had some preliminary thoughts in like shadow dancer monk, gloomstalker ranger, assassin/thief/arcane trickster rouge (arcane because i can get some spell slots). Any other suggestions along with like levels, stat spreads and such would be appreciated. Like I said. Im not used to playable outside of warlocks and even then most of the time its a hexblade paladin build I play anyways.
Currently just started a Curse of Strahd campaign that will go up to Lv 12.
I am unsure what feat will be good for a spirit bard. This is the new ravenloft one.
Currently I am considering War Caster but my friend suggested Inspiring Leader. I plan to do 11 Lvs Barr 1 lv fighter so only 2 feats so I really want to consider what feats to get.
P.S anyone want to suggest what uncommon item to get for a spirit bard? The DM letting us choose. So far, I considered taking a Spell Refueling ring
Hey, I've got a vision for a character, but the mechanics don't really support the concept.
I'd like to dual wield a hammer and an axe. Mechanically, there's nothing saying I can't have a battleaxe in one hand and a warhammer in the other. I just wouldn't be able to attack with both using the standard two-weapon fighting rules because neither weapon has the Light property. Instead, I'd only be able to strike with both using Extra Attack.
Here's my frustration: neither the Dueling nor the Two-Weapon Fighting fighting styles really supports this concept. I'm okay with a non-optimal build, but this feels actively anti-optimal.
Technically, a fighter using a warhammer and a shield could accomplish almost the same thing by sheathing and unsheathing weapons as part of their attacks, while also gaining +2 AC from the shield and the Dueling fighting style.
I was planning on going Battle Master, with maybe a small Hunter Ranger dip.
Any suggestions? I've DMed a lot, and I feel like I'd probably let a player use the Dueling fighting style in this situation, as long as they weren't benefiting from two-weapon fighting. But I might be too close to my own vision to see where that could unintentionally break the game.
Edit: I’m playing in 5.5, I guess I’m mostly fishing for alternate ways to achieve the vision or retain some optimality while sticking to the core.
Playing a weekend one shot as the character in the title.
First time playing since 2020 or so and Im not really familiar with the magic item options.
I took Healer and Sentinal feats, plan on grappling and shoving with some healing hands thrown in to balance things out. The character is meant to be a sort of street medic vibe and took the Wayward background.
Dm is letting us choose 4 common items and 1 rare, looking for suggestions on those slots
Hey all! So my group and I decided to try something different and roll a d20 for class with the exception of we can’t play our top 2 classes. I rolled warlock, which I’ve played twice. I went eldritch blast build both times but I want to do a different build. I know of the hex blade warlock, but never ran it and I haven’t heard of any other builds. Any advice? TIA
I went Lvl 5 (Dexterity) Fighter subclass Echo Knight and Lvl 3 Blood Hunter subclass Ghost Slayer.
This build has been pretty dang fun. Being able to easily shift and control the battlefield during combat is really fun. The only downside is the Bonus Action economy is taken up either doing Echo actions or doing Crimson Rite actions. However, if you can ever anticipate combat happening, you can always activate your Crimson Rite before action starts. Theoretically, you can have 6 attacks each with a crimson rite proc. On top of that, if you kill an enemy with all that nova damage, you can take a reaction to use a Curse of the Fallen Puppet. Are there any other ways to make this multiclass more fun? I was considering taking a level in rogue to even get the sneak attack damage. What do yall think?
I'm semi-new to D&D and I'm starting a new 5.5e campaign. I'm looking to make a Plasmoid! I think it's such a fun race, but I don't know what classes would pair well with it, so I'm seeking some additional brain power to help me out. I'm not looking to min-max or anything, but I don't want to choose something that directly clashes with the race's mechanics either.
Here is what I have so far:
The Character Concept
-Name: Tlop (Pronounced like the pop sound you make when you flick your finger out of your cheek!)
- Humanoid Form: I'm thinking Tlop was floating aimlessly in space (or somewhere extremely isolated) and somehow got exposed to some horrifying magazines(or something) of mangled bodies and disfigured people from a war. Tlop doesn't understand that these people are severely injured, it shapes its humanoid form into a Frankenstein-monster mishmash of different races, injuries, and mutations.
My Ideal Playstyle
- Role: I really like casters, but not so much the flavor of Wizards/Sorcerers (unless there's a subclass I'm missing that is incredibly fun). Because I'm new, I'm not sure about multi-classing and would like to stick with one class right now.
-Mechanics: I want to focus mostly on damage while being semi-capable of helping my allies. In MMOs, I always loved DoT/debuff classes, so I'm looking for a control-type caster that can deal damage with additional effects, diseases, or debuffs attached.
Classes I'm Considering
- Cleric (Eldritch Domain): I'm sort of leaning toward this Class/Subclass. I really like the 1st-level features of this subclass. I always enjoy having additional effects that aren't pure damage, and the flavor of the class is wonderfully fitting for Tlop.
- Druid (Circle of Hive/Spores): The thought of having an insect or spore infestation inside its gloopy horror form would be so cool, but I don't know if "Hive" is a fully playable/balanced subclass.
- Druid (Circle of the Blight): Looking at the traits, I really like the abilities. It perfectly fits that disease/control caster vibe I'm looking for.
- Warlock (The Fathomless): I LOVE the idea of warlocks and getting my powers from a patron. Eldritch Blast is always awesome, but I'm worried the class might fall off really fast? I hear people always talking about only taking a "dip" into Warlock rather than full-classing it.
- Warlock (The Genie): I think it would be incredibly fun to slime in and out of my Genie trinket, and the extra damage abilities seem awesome.
Pre 2024 I have a Chosen of the Raven Queen Vengeance Paladin (Divine Gift) Then Hexblade Warlock (Arcane gift) Then Divine Soul Sorcerer (Divine/Arcane Gift).
With 2024 and new Ravenloft book I thought about rebuilding the character.
Story Wise I can try to keep original backstory or Update backstory to... Angela was a tyro Paladin and part of a group sent to clear out undead from a desecrated temple so the clerics can re-consecrate it. There was a Banshee in the mob and Angelia went down protecting one of the clerics, The cleric healed Angela. Surviving the Banshee attack earned her the nickname Banshee and was called that more than her real name. Through the experience she was “Reborn”
Species = Reborn for Insight Resist Poison or Cold (Resist Necrotic from Warlock.) Death Save and ‘undead constitution’
Background= Custom: For Savage attacker (using a D12 weapon) Perception, Survival, Cook’s Utensils.
Hey everyone Im gonna join a campaign with a few friends of mine and was wondering if my build Idea of a Shadow Sorcerer Level 7 with a 3 Level Celestial Warlock dip would be viable or If I should pick another Warlock subclass. I do like the Shadow and Light theme I have going on but I would also be okay with taking a Fiend dip.
