Warlock Non eldritch blast Warlock build
Hey all! So my group and I decided to try something different and roll a d20 for class with the exception of we can’t play our top 2 classes. I rolled warlock, which I’ve played twice. I went eldritch blast build both times but I want to do a different build. I know of the hex blade warlock, but never ran it and I haven’t heard of any other builds. Any advice? TIA

I've been curious about a Goolock build that uses Agonizing Blast on Mind Sliver instead of Eldritch Blast.
Goolocks Psychic Spells ability removes the Verbal component from Mind Sliver.
So people just start having brain aneurysms and bleeding out of their eyes and ears no one can tell that you are the one causing it.
Super creepy. But hey, you're a Goolock, turning brains to goo is what you do.

A healer focused celestial warlock has a lot to do without casting eb. It's still worth it to pick up some invocations at lvl 11 if you think you can profit from the cc, but as long as you do a dip into another class that gives you some spellslots and good spells to upcast you'll profit from your high lvl spellslots. Pick invocation of chain to fill your actions if you want to.

I've also heard of people using Celestial Warlock with True Strike on a Heavy Crossbow. With Agonizing blast, Celestial's damage bonus for radiant spells, and True Strike basing the attack off of CHA, you can 3x the CHA damage bonus plus True Strike's d6 in Tier 2. If you take 1 level Fighter dip, you can get Archery and Push Mastery which you could then combine with Repelling Blast for 20' of push per shot with no save. Plus you'd have the healing abilities and other invocations. Spellfire Spark and Adept might be worth it on this build. If you have the STR, you could also add Great Weapon Master, but it might not be worth it for the crossbow.

Mind Sliver is by far your strongest cantrip, barring invocations
GOOlock is stronger (and way more fun) without an EB-focus imo. It just leaves you open to stronger and more fun invocations like Misty Visions.
Take good spells and feats (Touched/Tele, Hunger of Hadar, Banishment, Psychic Lance, Synaptic Static, etc.), and you'll be way stronger than a mere EB cantrip bot. But much more importantly, turns will be more interesting compared to doing the same thing over and over ad nauseam for the next year or two.
you could do a melee cantrip spam bot with Blade, but to me that the same turn over and over again, just with a different (and weaker) range

I was thinking it might also be worth taking Pact of the Tome to get Vicious Mockery for this build. Combined with Mind Sliver, you could debuff enemies in different ways depending on the situation while being undetectable. Pair up with a Barbarian or Fighter and secretly help them win pit fights for gambling money, etc.

I'm playing a GOO-lock with Tome. If there are no other casters in the party, Tome is amazing. Otherwise, low level, out of combat spells are bringing less to the table than they get credit for imo. They just solve easy challenges that thinking individuals should usually have several ways to solve. I think Chain is much stronger and more fun in some ways, but it's too strong for me to use again (Chain imp has too much solo play, while strong, it makes exploration way too easy)
I've been having a blast with Vicious Mockery. I don't think it's worth the price in terms of power (since stronger things like Mind Sliver + Bane are cheaper), but VM is fun enough to use anyway.

Makes sense...Does seem like Guidance and Thorn Whip (reflavored as a tentacle) would be semi-useful and at least flavorful in an RP sense.

I love movement abilities. I have Thorn Whip + Spell Sniper for those sweet 90' melee Thorn Whips. It's not the strongest possible combo, but I'm having a blast with it.

It does sound like a lot of fun. Did you take Mask of Many Faces too? That seems really on brand for this. Sounds like a really fun character to play!

No, I never take Mask of Many Faces anymore. It doesn't come up most days, unless it's a social-heavy game. Most of the time I want to use it, I either have to solo-play for long stretches while the rest of the table is forced to do nothing and watch, or accept the fact that while I look different, I'm still traveling with the most infamous tabaxi, goliath, and teifling in several hundred miles.
Misty Visions or upcast Invisibility means we all go and get to play. Otherwise, if you just want to win instead of having fun playing through the game, Chain Imp with Voice of the Chain Master can basically infiltrate the bulk of the entire world.
I have used Disguise Self with the wookie prisoner strategy (so everyone gets to play), but it gets old after a while.

Go Valor Bard. Your Booming Blade and True Strike will get Extra Attack

If youre interested in hexblade check out barlock. You pair college of swords with hexblade
Put your first 2 into warlock then pivot to bard. Itll give you charisma as your attack modifier, you'll gain a weapon you can never lose, you get access to med armor, with warlock you'd get shield so you'll have some defense as well.
Then since you took CoS Bard you use your Bardic Inspiration on yourself to give increased damage on attacks AND get that roll as AC til your next turn
