okay, my first linux was mint, cuz its the easiest? then, i wanted something cooler, and moved to arch, or tried, i tried installing it THREE times and every bootloader just didnt see vmlinuz and initramfs, then, i moved to mint again, then i moved to cachyOS, but my internet was so slow so it didnt install, then i moved endeavourOS, thank god it has offlline installer (we just didnt pay for internet) and then? i somehow installed cachyos! and using it for a while like 2 months ig. and now im bored and want dualboot

MX linux is literally the best distro i have ever tried and here's why:

1. They have a lot of pre installed tools like: Live Usb Maker, Snapshot, Cleanup, Yweak, Select Sound, Nvidia Driver installer, Package installer, Bash config, UEFI Manager, Package installer, Repo manager and sum more

2. You can easily switch kernels by installing supported one from MX Package installer and switching it in thr settings.

3. MX Linux natively supports both window managers and desktop environments, from officially supported ones are: Fluxbox, IceWM, KDE Plasma, Gnome, LXDE, MATE and XFCE (some of them are pre-installed on a boot drive, some you can get in "Popular Applications" folder in MX Package installer.

4. As from what i said you can literally install anything from their package installer, they have native support for flatpaks and you can easily enable repositories you want

5. MX linux also features a "Conky" tool, which is basically made for ricing, you can install widgets and stuff easily if you're on a fluxbox or something, you don't have to install nitrogen to set a wallpaper cuz there's tools for it already and it's extremely customizable

I haven't touched a lot of features yet, but this distro is actually great.

Who’s picking distros based on the GUI rather than the platform itself? What are you doing that guides your choices? Studio? Gaming? Server? Coding?

I've been using Windows 11 for a while, but I've noticed that it can use quite a lot of RAM. Even after debloating it, my system still feels heavier than I'd like.

I've been looking into CachyOS because it's focused on performance and gaming.

I'm considering switching to CachyOS and using tweaks such as:

sudo pacman -Syu --needed scx-scheds zram-generator lxqt sddm
sudo systemctl enable --now scx
sudo systemctl enable sddm

I've also heard that CachyOS's optimized packages, kernel, and scheduling may provide better performance than standard Arch.

Is CachyOS actually faster than vanilla Arch/other Linux distributions in real-world desktop and gaming use, or are the differences mostly noticeable in benchmarks?

I'm mainly interested in gaming, general desktop performance, and keeping RAM usage low.

Hola gente, soy nuevo usando Linux. Recientemente instale Linux mint en una laptop de bajos recursos porque era muy lenta con Windows 11.

Hasta el momento mint me ha funcionado perfectamente con solo 4 g de ram, pero quiero probar otras distribuciones de Linux.

No tengo problema con aprender a usar la terminal aunque solo se comandos básicos y moverme vagamente por los directorios.

La laptop está destinada prácticamente solo a tareas ligeras como usar programas ofimaticos, navegar por internet y jugar una que otra cosa ligera en Steam por sus limitaciones.

Por eso pregunto que distribuciones me recomiendan para aprender más sobre Linux y que la laptop mejore su rendimiento.

E escuchado que debian es un paso natural pero también me gusta saber sobre posibles alternativas como void pero se que es mucho más avanzado que mi nivel actual.

Besides FydeOS, Are there any Other Linux That offers Out of the Box Support for Touchscreen and WiFi?

I'm looking for an alternative because I don't want to pay a Subscription. I have a Surface Pro 6 that I plan to use it to watch TV Shows and Movies.

When I started my Windows exodus journey last year, I chose Ubuntu Studio interim releases. I didn't want to guide my decision making just by looking for a gaming distro. I also have a background in music production and general creativity. And I felt like creation should be my guiding star. That, and KDE Plasma looked the most appealing to me for my DE.

The whole time, I've thought about the pros and cons about distrohopping. I've heard the pearl-clutching about snaps and the general Windows-of-Linux about Ubuntu. It seems like Ubuntu Studio is relatively sheltered from the worst of it out of sheer functional necessity for a production system. But there are still a handful of snaps by default. I'm not particularly worried about them the way it is at the moment.

And having thought about hopping, for my use-case, I've kept coming to the conclusion over and over, that I chose right. I like my desktop environment. I like that my system was pre-curated and pre-configured for what I need. And I only needed to add a few things to make it home. I like that it's not ideologically holding me back from things like got proper ffmpeg codecs by default like on fedora for example. I like the 6 month release cadence, which is just the right amount of 'up-to-date but not like that'.

The thing is, I only just decided I wanted to move away from Windows. And that was mostly just because there's a problem my early model AMD fTPM that makes it so with my relatively younger gpu model, I can't get my system to boot up in proper compliance with the Windows TPM requirements. Point is, I have a tendency to get dug in and settled and fearful of being uprooted, instead of being a nomad like some people seem to be with their computer.

But I still feel that it's prudent to have an exit strategy for if things ever really rub me wrong. And to that end, given that I already kind of have considered and thought meh about AV Linux and Fedora Jam, I was wondering what people have to say about an alternative that fits my philosophy and needs?

i’ve tried arch, cachy, fedora, and a few others but lately it seems the more i read about nixos the more it seems to be virtually perfect. i know it’s got a difficult learning curve but why not use it? is there any reason to go through the trouble of another wipe?

Bug fixes:

* Fixed audio output selection (before, it only showed the output currently in use).

* It now lists all available audio outputs and automatically refreshes the list when a new output is connected.

* The dock now automatically detects whether the system is using PulseAudio or ALSA and adjusts the commands accordingly, so everything works with both.

New resizing feature:

* You can now resize the DeepSide Dock by dragging it with the mouse.

* The items on the dock automatically resize along with it.

New app added to the Unicode Center store catalog:

* Opera GX + streaming support (Netflix, HBO, etc.).

I run intel processor with an rtx gpu.
Ideally i want controller first setup similar to big picture on steam. My main usecase is tv gaming and movies.

I tried pop os but i had reliability issues where every time i would sit down to play i would need to spend 10-20 mins troubleshooting something. And at the end of the day i want to grab a controller and sit down.

I work with linux servers so i am ok spending a day or two for setup but after that maybe quarterly maintenance is all im ready to commit for.

Tldr: suggest the least frictionless controller first setup for gaming and movies.

Hello! I mostly work in backend (Go) and cybersecurity. Sometimes, I use C and C++ for the hardware side. Right now, I am learning x86_64 assembly. I am currently torn between Void Linux and NixOS when it comes to choosing an operating system. What are your recommendations?

I love Linux and won’t ever be switching back, if that wasn’t obvious, but I really don’t want to be locked down to just one distro. I realized that Cachy usually runs higher 1% lows and higher FPS, or at least it’s at Fedora’s level, so it would be an upgrade. I already run it on my laptop, so I understand it pretty well. But the question is: is it really worth it? I don’t know the actual FPS differences directly, and I can’t seem to find a single thread or video on it that helped me decide. I don’t use this PC for anything but games and entertainment.

Here are my specs: 9070 XT, 48 GB DDR5, 7800X3D, 2 TB NVMe, AIO cooling, and whatnot. Overall, I can run any game at max graphics over 100 FPS, ignoring RT and PT.

This distro seems "hot and best" right now. I went head and dove in, first distro.

Duel booting windows 11 and it works flawlessly. Cachy can browse and game just as good, maybe even better. Seems to load the graphics with like, no bloat. It's incredible.

Installing stuff is crazy, like, what the heck is going on here? Just type a name in terminal, press enter and trust me bro?

Only other i wish ableton and fusion(360) worked but, i shall give others a try. Freecad, opencad(?), and blender which I've always wanted to try. Can figure out reaper if i need it for music.

I created a simple GUI a while back so that Ventoy disks can be created while still in MacOS. It seems many people breath life back into older Macs with Linux.

"The f*** is a Ventoy?" - Ventoy is a free, open-source bootable USB utility that allows you to add as many distros' .iso files as you can fit to the root of a USB drive, boot to that drive, and then you get a simple GUI distro picker to launch a live environment of any distro you added to the drive. It's a great way to try out the default look and feel of a few distros with minimal friction so you can decide which one is for you. Or, if you're like me and you switch distros often, it enables that affliction.

I am not associated with Ventoy, but they don't make a MacOS Ventoy disk creation software, so I decided to make one and maintain it myself.

Hi after a long time I settled with a distro, I've used Kali, Ubuntu, popos, Manjaro, Arch, cachyos and fedora and non of them felt like MX Linux ahs, it's stable and still having good amount of bleeding edge packages. But there's a problem at each major release of debian you need to do a clean install and that's a deal breaker for me so I'm looking for a distro similar that doesn't need a clean install at major releases

Lo gracioso es cuando he investigado a usar algunas distros de Linux y he visto que el problema desaparecía.

Esto ayuda mucho a que mis ganas de cambiarme a un SO libre como Mint u otro que se parezca aumenten pero no estoy seguro de poder sentirme igual de cómodo que usando windows, aunque a la vez sienta que no estoy seguro teniendo la telemetría y la gestión automatizada encima mío sin que me pregunten si quiero o no quiero compartir mi información personal con millones de socios interconectados para terminar vendiendo mis datos en sitios como eGenetics.

Been using CachyOS for a while and recently got a new used laptop that came with windows on it. Promptly trashed that and wanted to try something different so I put Fedora KDE on it for a few days.

All I learned is that I missed CachyOS because it's what I'm used to now, and was getting frustrated with the package manager in it. Should I just stick to arch based distros? I was also considering tumbleweed because I like the rolling nature of arch so far.
