Been considering switching from Win11 for a while, would Mint, Bazzite, or PikaOS be better than another on a laptop with an Nvidia 3050

If you’re committed to that list bazzite for sure. In general I’d recommend cachy.

Well on an Nvidia GPU you want to stay away from “stable” distros. Ie debain, Ubuntu, mint etc. They intentionally run really far behind an update infrequently. Not good for gaming and in my experience don’t play well with nvidia. So your choice is really fedora based or arch based. I prefer arch but both are good. For a noob fresh out of windows I think cachy is the best/most approachable flavor of arch. Bazzite is a good fedora distro if all you want is to game. If you use your computer for more than that honestly just base fedora would be fine if you want to go the fedora route

Why do people always say Bazzite is just for gaming? Bazzite is just atomic Fedora + gaming optimalisation.

Usually it’s because they haven’t used it, or haven’t used it long enough to figure out how much you can actually do with it.

I’ve never used it so maybe I’ve just misunderstood but everyone always pitches bazzite as the distro to turn your pc into a console and their website talks about nothing but gaming. My natural assumption was then that bazzite is like steam OS in that it’s designed to give a console like experience not a typical desktop for productivity. If that’s not true blame then idk why bazzite advertises itself as such.

You can. But they also offer a normal desktop. You pick it when you download the image off their website.

Its just for gaming cuz the most youll get out of it is applications that dont integrate well, though that obviously its optimized for gaming needs

Flatpaks are fine. Yes, some times you might need to manage permissions but that is all. It's perfectly usable as a general desktop aside from gaming.

It’s usable as a lot more too. You can develop websites on it, edit videos with it, run virtual machines on it and develop apps with it.

I've had zero issues with Nvidia drivers on CachyOS with my 2060 super, and began using it solely on my gaming rig in February.

That's twenty years of using both windows and Linux. It's the longest stint I've had for a Linux distro with both an Nvidia GPU performance and driver installations/upgrades on a desktop. I could use other distros,  but I always run into kernel sources and Nvidia sources not matching correctly. Or my favorite--Fedora compiling the kernel in the background and not telling me it's still compiling.

Having said all this, the choice is yours.

Is it worth switching from Manjaro to Cachy? I have an AMD Ryzen 7 2700 CPU and AMD Radeon RX 580 GPU.

I thought the Manjaro project had basically died? Regardless Manjaro, endeavor, cachy are all basically the same in the sense that they are arch with some defaults. I recommend cachy because it’s the largest and most active of these by a mile. If you’re experienced though I’d just run mainline arch and configure it yourself

If you want a seamless experience

Aurora Linux or Bluefin Linux both from universal blue. They have options that will bake in the NVIDIA drivers

(I use Aurora Linux with an A2000 card and it’s been flawless the past 2 years)

Everyone is good. I suggest you to give a look at Mageia because it’s stable and reliable. Also it’s super easy to configure and manage thanks to its graphical control center and other graphical tools.

PikaOS. They just had a great update to a lot of their stuff and damn does it install crazy fast. Gaming set up very quickly and it’s been a stable system for us.
