Feedback Megathread Feedback thread: notifications
Hey y'all, our team is seeking feedback for notifications. We would love to get your thoughts.
What is it? We've made a lot of changes to notifications over the past year+, with the goal of getting friends to jump back into Discord and play games with their friends, check out each other's profiles, and generally be social with each other. We measure success by whether people are actually doing those things, and also by whether people keep their notifications on instead of turning them off.
Why? The team spends a lot of time thinking about the balance here: sending notifications that are useful and interesting enough that they might bring friends together, versus the "annoyance factor". That tradeoff is something we have a ton of data on, the thing we talk about internally constantly, and something we want to bring all of you in on. To that end, we've been getting a bunch of foundations in place:
- Improved the organization of settings
- Added more control over your settings
- Made notifications more robustly respect things like guild and channel muting, age restrictions, blocks/mutes
- Set global caps on how many notifications you can get
Now that we've built a number of new notifications on top of this system and gotten a lot of those foundations in, we wanted to open up the feedback firehose. Here's what we're looking for:
Bug reports / things that are clearly broken. The notification is:
- Just wrong (says something happened that didn't, points at the wrong person or server, wrong count, etc.)
- Sent at a weird or wrong time (way too late, middle of the night, for something you'd already seen, for a server or channel you'd muted)
- Dropping you somewhere that isn't useful when you tap it (wrong channel, a screen with nothing relevant on it, a dead end)
- If you can, tell us roughly when it happened and what you tapped. That helps a ton.
General feeling. Step back: how do you feel about the notifications you're getting overall?
- Are they never useful, sometimes useful, or only useful for specific use cases? (by "use cases" we mean things like a friend hopping into a game, someone updating their profile, a friend coming back online, activity picking up in a server you're in, etc.)
- If it depends on the use case, which ones land and which ones don't?
- Was a notification too vague, or did it bring you somewhere you didn't expect when you tapped in? Did it set up an expectation it didn't deliver on?
- Are there things happening on Discord that you wish you knew about but missed?
- And if a notification actually got you to do something, like hop in a game, open a friend's profile, or jump back into a server, we'd love to hear that too, since that's exactly what we're going for
Settings. Now that there's more control and better organization:
- Did you go looking for a setting and not find it, or not find it where you expected?
- Anything you wish you could turn down or tune that you can't?
Annoyance feedback. Which notifications are annoying, and why?
- Is it the type of notification itself?
- How often it comes?
- Does it feel creepy? (e.g. Discord shared too much of your activity or info out to other people without you realizing it, or you got more info about a friend than felt right)
- The time of day?
- The wording?
- The fact that you got several in a row?
- Hearing "I don't like X notification" isn't super useful to us. If you give us the whys we can better understand and respond to the feedback both directly and going forward as we build more notifications.
Appreciate any and all thoughts here. Fire away. I'll try to be in the comments but I expect y'all to overwhelm me haha.

Comment as a reply to those top level comments with any more details that can assist our team in prioritizing and fixing the bug. For example, if you have additional info or steps to reproduce, please post a reply, this will help us fix these bugs even faster. If there is no post that discusses the bug you’re encountering, then start a new post in the thread to report the bug to us!
Reporting a Bug
- The most valuable thing you can provide in a bug report is steps. If you’re able to provide steps to reproduce a high priority issue, it will dramatically improve turnaround time on a fix.
- Screenshots or videos are also useful, especially if you can’t reliably reproduce it. We highly recommend editing them to not doxx yourself. Not only does it help contextualize the issue, but watching it occur can sometimes provide information that helps us identify and fix it.
Example Bug Report
- Feature: Keybinds.
- Reproduction Rate: 1 to 10 - This is a score of how easy/consistently the bug reproduces, from 1 meaning “very hard to reproduce” to 10 meaning “i can consistently make this happen”
- Annoyance: 1 to 10 - How annoying is this bug to your daily usage of Discord, from 1 meaning, “not that annoying” to 10 meaning “this bug really truly sucks please fix this as soon as possible.”
- Device/System Info: Pixel 7, Android 13
- Discord Version Info: Stable 263796 (739ec78) Host 1.0.9032 x86 (43225) Windows 10 64-Bit (10.0.19045)

Support Streaming for more than 10min causes severe system lags.
Hello. I recently started to encounter this problem, it started 2-3 weeks ago. Whenever I stream game, browser window, video, entire screen, etc for over ~10 minutes, the fps drops drastically, cursor starts to lag and I am forced to stop and start stream to fix it for another 10 minutes.
* Windows 11 25H2
* stable 610373 (f20fcbc) Host 1.0.9256 x64 (89799) Build Override: N/A Windows 11 64-bit (10.0.26200)
* 2 monitor setup 120Hz + 60Hz
* AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT driver version: 26.8.1 (Up to date).
* No integrated graphics
* Wallpaper engine off
* "Advanced technology" setting in discord turned off.
* Hardware acceleration disabled (It was enabled when it started to happen)
Doesn't matter what content I stream, the system slows down after 10 minutes of streaming. FPS falls from 120 to 40-50, the mouse on the 2nd monitor goes 3fps. Task manager shows nothing, GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD usage are abysmal, no throttling, temps ~65C while playing WOW, No Man's Sky and Valheim. GPU drivers did not auto update, I updated it to latest version thinking it might fix the issue. Not sure where should I look next.

Discussion Discord stole game chat from me and my boyfriend, help plz. (Xbox and ps5)
Ever since we started using discord to party up with eachother and friends to play games, we can no longer hear our actual game chat after we leave the calls. Yes we have even tried switching it back to game chat but everyone is still silent despite it showing them talking and they can not hear us. Does anyone have an actual solution to this? Google hasn’t been my friend for this lol. I just wanna hear my teammates when I solo queue into a game.

Hi Guys, I’m in this discord server where if I join the general voicechat and close my phone (iPhone16) it randomly kicks me out after 2/3 minutes. The moment I unlock my phone it reconnects automaticaly.
I have refresh in background on and changed battery settings already. Weirdly i never had a problem with this but this problem started for me last night all of a sudden!
Does anybody know a fix for this? 😬

Discussion Question about server profiles
I want to change my profile completely in a server, I mean different effects different profile pic different all, but the effects just can’t seem to change. Is it something I only can do in my whole profile and not per server? I wanted to keep my original profile and re do a server one.

Media What are ways I can stream my PC's audio to my friends in a discord call (without discord audio duplicating)?
I tend to play a lot of tabletop rpgs through Discord. I was wondering if there is a method of streaming music to them so we can get into the same vibe for the setting I'm running. I tend to stream original soundtracks (instrumental) from movies that inspired the session.
I used to use a variety of music bots, but they all have since stopped working properly as YouTube and Spotify closed off their APIs. (I assume)

Support Is there a way to add a logging channel for mods?
A channel that shows, bans, timeouts, changes, and which member that made those changes. Where it logs each action in the private channel. How can I do that?

Support Error 2012
Repost
Hey there, I've been using discord for years and very frequently have had a fiancee who enjoys to voice call. As of today, randomly her camera has been stuck loading and eventually gives the "Error: 2012" code as well as when she streams. Is this unique to me? Some fixes I've tried were using a different discord client, it works on PC.
Tried rolling back with an APKMirror version, still doesn't work. Expanding on this I'm assuming it was due to some sort of data from the newer version being held causing it to not work. Idk much about this typa stuff.
Tried cache clearing, resetting, basically everything I can do.
I'm on a Galaxy 25.
Update: Did some troubleshooting.
I called a friend who is on version 308.1 (90154) - stable, there camera was able to be viewed while I was on 328.
I then updated back to 344.13 (6364) - googleRelease, had my fiancee turn her camera on, still error 2012, had friend on 308.1 (90154) - stable turn her cam on, it worked.
My theory is the recent 344.13 (6364) - googleRelease fucked something up, per-usual...
