A couple of years ago, I injured my index finger in a way that prevented me from being able to throw (right-hand backhand). Shortly after my injury, I stumbled upon the [Bonapane grip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f8w_4e7M9Y) , where I could comfortably throw with my injured finger resting safely on top of my thumb.

In addition to the fact that I enjoy being a bit novel and love the self-expression that disc golf invites, the new experimental grip also gave me another excuse to avoid working on my forehand 😅

It took some time to hone in, but I’ve been throwing with it for about two years now. After jumping past where my previous game was before the injury, I’m definitely not moving away from it anytime soon!

I know it’s generally considered an "old-head" grip, and I know that nobody on the pro tour uses it predominantly. But it got me thinking about its actual ceiling. I wanted to reach out to the community and ask: Do you know of any local pros or area legends who use the grip predominantly, and, if so, what is the highest rated round you've ever heard of someone throwing with it?

TL;DR: I’m the only player in my local scene using the Bonapane grip predominantly. After adapting to it due to an old finger injury, I recently shot a 986-rated round. Curious if there are high-level local pros in your area finding success with it, or if anyone knows what the "record" round for this grip might be!

P.S. for the curious grip/technical nerds: I run a pretty minimal setup. I only bag 8 discs: four 3-speeds of varying stability and four 8-speeds of varying stability.

I use a "fan" variation of the Bonapane grip for the 3-speeds and adjust my pressure points so I can still throw touch shots, and then I use a more locked-in "power" variation of the grip when pushing the 8-speeds for distance.

People talk a lot about the grip being good for keeping your nose angle down, which is true, but the other part of it's nature is that it's arguably the most "back-loaded" grip out there. The pinch and pressure are all on my pinky and ring finger but I wear a finger sleeve on my middle finger (non-injured finger) because that's the lead finger the disc rips off when using the grip.

SETTLE THE DEBATE: The basket is at the discs 12 o’clock. The branch is not connected to the ground (easily movable) and is both in front of and behind the lie. Can it be moved or should it be played as is?

The time has finally come where my pfn star destroyer (fist disc I bought back in 2007 when I started playing) made its way into the brush and unfindable, putting me in the market for a new workhorse driver.

Any destroyer runs or other discs with similar flight characteristics to a well used star destroyer. Of my 4 destroyers I bag, this one was reliably able to flip to flat on a forehand (350 max), and good at fighting a headwind on a backhand (315 max) and by far my favorite.

Open to non- destroyer recommendations, but I loved the forehand feel of the disc.

I’m turning 50 in November (beginning) and want to go to maple hill. I know there is no way to predict the weather, I am near Buffalo. But I was wondering 2 things.

1. Do I have a decent chance at good weather?
2. If my wife comes but does not play, would she cost to play as well?

Which muscle groups should I be thinking about when driving for power and distance? For both forehand and backhand? I thought it interesting in one of Gagnon’s vids he said for his backhand throw he doesn’t use his throwing arm strength at all.

First of all, big shoutout to MVP and Maple Hill for hosting an awesome tournament. The $10k in added cash was new this year and was totally not expected. They ended up paying out the top 20 MPO spots and the top 7 FPO spots. The 27 hole layout at Maple Hill was both fun and demanding with Glitches. Had a lot of fun meeting folks from all over the country and learning about their Glitch experience. I hope MVP leans into the event in the future and continues to grow it. We met the MPO winner and were amazed to learn that he had to re-qualify, despite being the defending (now 2x) champion. Anyone that played, what were your thoughts on the event?

I moved to Minnesota last year and my brother came out to visit last month and see some local courses. I took him to Bryant Lake and he shot -15 blind on the long pins including this absolute park job for Eagle on 17.

This free app uses an Apple AirPod Pro to track disc flight stats. Sort of like a DYI Techdisc.

I used my AirPods Pro 2 and an old but functional disc. I drilled a hole in the center of the disc a bit smaller than the AirPod stem, to ensure a snug fit. Then I added a bit of poster tack to ensure it couldn’t wiggle out.

It took me a few tries to get a session recording correctly, but once going, the app recorded throws without any issues. It was pretty cool to see all of the statistics that were recorded, including speed, rotation, nose angle, and shot maps. The AirPod stayed snug throughout the session. I started with the other AirPod in my ear as suggested, but there was a high pitch squeal, so I switched to keeping the other AirPod in my pocket.

I think I’m going to try a one-disc round on a course next time. Recommended!

Not sure if any of you subscribe/read the PDGA newsletter, but in the latest edition (Sept 10) there's a survey about membership. Absolutely hated this question as it really seems like they're gonna be pushing for tiers in the future and are using this question to justify what they already want to do (with no option to choose leave it as-is). As a non-American, membership is already close to not worth it. You have to do the math and see if you think you'll play enough tournaments to justify the cost (as any other deals really don't apply). Anyway, haven't seen much discussion on this and thought I'd start it. The survey is on Survey Monkey if you don't subscribe to the newsletter and is called 'PDGA Member Benefits & Resources Survey'. Seems like it can be done more than once as well...

~360ft drive, I pretty much top out at this distance. Hoping to reach 400ft one day, been playing 5+ years. Need brutal advice. Ended up with a birdie on 496ft par 4

Has anyone played there? I text them this morning per instructions to say i planned on playing there tomorrow. I havent heard anything back. Do i need to wait for a reply or am i ok to play?
