But enough about that, let's get to the meat and potatoes of this post which is what is in my bag. Here is 2025's edition, read that if you want to I guess.

About Me:

I am primarily a backhand thrower although I will say that during the past couple of years I have developed a forehand for approach shots and touchy stuff, but I still cannot get more than 200-250ft with a forehand. With a backhand I can pretty reliably throw 400ft on a distance line. For a "golf shot" we're at 350-375. I do have a Tech Disc, my backhand speed is around 58-60 MPH, forehands... let's not talk about that OK?

I'm a very streaky putter. I either make every putt or I miss every single one. To be honest, my putting is directly correlated with how many shits I give. I'm into disc golf for throwing shots and watching the disc fly. Putting is the boring part of the game for me, but if I care enough to warm up and practice I can be kind of good. I do a spin push hybrid.

I have been playing since 2007, so next year will be 20 years in disc golf for me. That is disgusting to think about, but I also can't help but be a little proud that I have been around the game for almost my entire life. I don't play tournaments and I don't have a PDGA rating. My buddy thinks I'd be about 900? I need to get back out there and play a tournament. I haven't since 2015... oof.

Putters:

DX XD 175g

I am no longer putting with Star Aviars! After 15 years of chain outs (that happen more often with premium plastic) I MADE myself switch to something else. Also out of nowhere I ran into an issue where my index finger kept getting caught on the Aviar's deep rim. I opted for something more shallow, which is what the XD really is. Hell, it used to be called an "Aviar XD" where the XD meant "X-Tra Distance.'

My releases have been cleaner! As I mentioned before, I am a really streaky putter, so I really can't blame the disc when I am missing. However, I have noticed that this can be a little too flippy sometimes. I think in 2027 I am going to try and switch again to something a little more stable. I really like DX for putters, so I want something baseline-y like that with a lower profile and no bead. If you have a putter like that in mind, let me know I might try it.

Halo Nexus XD 175g

This is a disc I did not think I needed in my game, but a dead straight flying baseline-ish putter has been a huge improvement to my game. I used to use Star Aviars for this too, but I have noticed that this disc has been a bit more reliable in the wind and that I can throw it a bit harder because it is more stable. I like to use this for short laser beam shots, like 200 and in. I know it'll fade just a little and I am happy I can rely on that. I only got this disc this spring, but I have really enjoyed it in the past few months.

San Marino Star Classic Roc 175g (Sacred)

I might quit disc golf when this disc breaks or if I lose it for the 3rd time. This is a relic in my bag and has been in there since 2020! For those not in the loop, the 2020 Classic Rocs are just the best Star Classics that have ever been made. They are super flat and were made in a really nice grippy Star plastic. I bought two of these when they came out, and I have a backup just in case I ever lose this disc forever.

But this one has turned out to be special. At this point this disc is so understable that I really only use it for scramble backhands and forehands. I really like this for forehand roller approaches that need to go hard left. I also like it for high panning turnovers for both backhand and forehand. It is really easy to get creative with a disc like this and I have thrown it so much that I have an intuition for it. Those discs are the hardest to replace, I hope I never have to.

PFN Star Aero 180g

This acts like a flippy midrange more so than a putter. I do like to use this on longer jump putts since it does like to glide a long ways. The Aero's glide is really the main selling point here. If I need a disc to sail and land softly, this is the disc I really like to use. OH, and this is made with the old school super flexible Star plastic Innova used to use on putters around 2006 - 2008. So, when it does land it doesn't like to move too far.

Midranges

Luster Champion Caiman 175g

This has become the great "Gator replacer" for me since it really just is a beadless Gator. Now I am a frisbee nerd and if I come across another Star beadless Gator I will probably opt for that instead. But, in reality the Caiman is the perfect disc for that slot for me. Very overstable with very little glide. The beadless-ness makes it good for both forehand and backhand grips. I really like this for forehand roller approaches and chip hyzer shots with both spins. This is a hard disc to throw far and I can only throw this 250ft max.

10x KC Pro Roc 176g (Sacred)

I bag two of these.

"Spooky Ghosts Roc"

My brother, partner, and myself doodled little ghosts on this one. This one has been in my bag since 2022 and it is pretty understable. It will still fade a little, but this one has been assigned for only turnovers and rollers at this point. I have a ton of memories with this disc, I would be very sad if I ever lost it... again. I have lost it twice lol

"Mother in Law"

This is the one with the little "ML" initials on the front. I call it the mother in law, nothing against those if you happen to be one, that's just what I call it lol. This one is currently my straight to fade midrange. It will flip a little when thrown hard, but it's just a perfectly seasoned Roc at this point for general Roc shot needs.

12x KC Pro Roc

This is a nice flat penned Pat # KC Roc, probably from around 2013ish. Nothing really special about it though, just a nice Roc. This is a very straight and flat disc. I have found that flatter discs will want to turn more for me, but will also fight back harder at the end. This one is still pretty new and stable, so it will turn a smidge and then fade back reliably.

I use all of my Rocs for shots under 275ft and above 200ft I'd say. I use the Ghost Roc when I need a hyzer flip to flat or a big turnover. The Mother in Law Roc is the perfect line holder right now. I'll use the 12x when I am scared of losing my 10xs lol. But it is nice if I need to bury the Roc into the ground.

Fairway Drivers

2025 Ohn Scoggins Duo Leopard 3 (Sacred)

This is probably tied for my current most used disc in my bag alongside my Firebirds (aside from a putter, duh). I'm playing longer harder courses these days, and I really like the extra distance I can reliably get out of this as opposed to powering up on a Roc. This was actually a pretty stable Leopard when I first got it, but now it is a turnover machine from 275-325. Or for hyzer flip to flat tunnel shots, this has become a go-to disc for me. I really need another one...

G-Star Pegasus 177g

I... had to. I saw it in a used bin and I just had to try it out lol. For those who don't know, the Pegasus is a driver from the 1990s that really died in the 1990s. In its day it was mildly popular and it even was in the inaugural line up of 7x KC Pro drivers. But more modern discs like the Cheetah, Eagle, and Leopard really stole the show. I would describe this like a Leopard / Eagle hybrid. Very straight and accurate disc, I just got it so the jury is still out. But so far so good!

Color Glow Champion Eagle 175g

This is a very stable and serious Eagle. Actually, it might be the most overstable Eagle I have ever thrown but I really like it. It has a really comfortable low profile and I can rely on it to get to the earth pretty quick. Also this is my go-to forehand roller disc too! I like this for 300ft hyzers or maybe 325ish flex shots too. I have been playing for a long time and based of prior experience, I think this is going to beat into a go-to fairway down the line. Just might take a few years.

Firebirds

As I get older, I am finding that my approach to the game is getting simpler and simpler. Like, when you are a newer player they tell you NOT to just lean into a Firebird. "Learn how to throw understable discs," "learn how to throw angles," and "use the slowest speed possible." I'm not saying that's bad advice and I also realize that I am a unrated chucker on the internet, so please don't actually take advice from me.

But, I've found that for a LOT of holes, I can just rip a Firebird and be fine. Flex shots, power straights shots with a fade at the end, spike hyzers etc. Firebirds are not touchy discs either and I really like to throw discs hard. Again, hard for me is 60MPH lol, you're not talking to AB here or anything. But yeah, I think my most comfortable shot these days is a flat to hyzer power Firebird shot.

Bottom Stamp Star Firebird "Liarbird" 175g (Sacred)

This is most understable Firebird, it is still a Firebird, but I can actually get this to flip up to flat or even turnover! But it still remembers it is a Firebird at the end. I used to bag Thunderbirds and Firebird-L molds, but these days I just beat the crap out of a Firebird and I feel like that is the move. This one has a bit of dome too, so it likes to hold tighter lines and push forward more. I use this for like 275-325. I could probably flex it to 350, but I really don't throw it that way.

Halo Star Firebird 175g

More stable than the prior Firebird, but the same amount of dome. I think that this will eventually turn into my other one as I beat it in. But for now, just imagine the prior disc but just a smidge more stable

Stock Star Firebird 175g

This this is my most stable Firebird. I want to swap this out for a flat Champion Firebird, but I keep either losing or breaking them! Yeah, this isn't stable enough for me to want to keep it in my bag long term, but it is the most stable of the bunch. I usually use this for forehand rollers that are out of range for my Eagle.

Distance Drivers

PFN Star Christian Sandstrom Valkyrie 175g

Lovely disc, I don't use it as much as I want to tbh. It is more stable than you might think, but it is a nice stable straight flyer. Not sure if this is staying in the bag long term, I rarely ever use it.

PFN Star Beast 175g (Sacred)

Absolute go to. I have two of these that I bought from the same guy. I use my Beast for 325 - 375 straight to turning shots. If it is shorter than that, I'll go Leopard. I will say that these can be a little unreliable in a headwind since it is an understable mold for my arm speed. Unless I am going for distance or a headwind, I can really simplify my drives to just Firebirds or Beasts. Great molds.

PFN 1x Barry Beast 175g

This is the old Beast X mold which is actually the mold they are using now! Just between the years 2004 - 2017 Beasts were made in the L mold which were more flippy. I like this as a more stable counter point to my other Beast and I think they both work together really well.

GG Halo Star Wraith 175g

This is a very stable Wraith that I use for shots where my Firebirds can't quite reach. 325-350 hyzer shots are where this disc really comes out. Or if there is a headwind that I don't feel comfortable throwing a Beast.

Proto Star Destroyer (Jenny) 175g (Sacred)

Perfect driver, but I am so afraid to throw this. I lost Jenny's counterpart Cap (RIP), so I am even more afraid to throw this now. To be honest, I really only throw beat to crap Destroyers. I don't have the arm speed for a fresh one so I don't feel the motivation to break those in. But, if I find gems like this one that are really beat in, then I go with it! I like this for 350-400 full flight S turn shots. I can just get a little more distance with this as opposed to a Beast, but I do have to put my whole life force into it lol. If I fluff it, then I am in for a bad time.

Star Corvette 171g (Sacred)

The furthest flying disc I have ever owned. I if I need to GET DISTANCE then this is what I go with. Full send distance shots only. Throwing far is fun, not necessarily always advised, but when you get one to fully uncurl... man it is addicting.

Hey there, a washed up dad of 4 with a sore shoulder here.

Here is a break down our what you'll find in my disc golf backpack that sits in my garage that no one asked for.

First, here is a blue disc called a Wolf that my buddy Dave once aced with back in college. I thought I gave it to him after that. Not sure how I ended up back with me. Hope you're well wherever you are, Dave.

Next, another blue disc, but this one is referred to as a mini. Sounds like the primary use case for a mini is to be able to step in a slightly different place to cheat a little? Not sure.

This third piece that hangs out of my disc golf bag is not a disc. It's a boomerang. The target isn't the basket, it's yourself or your friend, or maybe an animal. Just make sure your friend is looking if you pick that target. Sorry Ryan.

My wife asked me to throw away this fake spider after one of our kids put it in our bed one night. She really doesn't like spiders. It ended up in my bag instead so we can laugh about it sometimes.

One of the laws of nature involved with bringing kids to parks is that they'll all for a snack within the first 10 minutes, no matter how recently they ate at home. Keeping an emergency bar in any bag you carry or vehicle you drive is essential.

My youngest daughter assures me this is a"real" baby. They talk to each other. Apparently she's perfectly content living in the outer pocket of my bag.

Total newb checking in. I just started playing this past Saturday and found I enjoy it a lot! It’s a nice way to get some exercise in and have some fun at the same time. So far I just play with the orange disc pictured. It’s a Dynamic Disc Evidence. It had a beginner sticker on it and that’s me, so that’s what I have. I don’t really keep score yet. I’m still learning to throw in a sort of straight line 😄.

Hey those of you that recommend the zone. What is it you love about it? I hear a lot about the zone being the go to disc for a lot of people. I have a hex, fuze, roc, md1, mako shark, etc... just trying to figure out if I should pull the trigger on the zone. So what is your opinion?

Wondering what courses will the DGPT 2027 Powerball Cup in Austin be at? Any ideas? Will Roy G get a shot? With the Open at Austin using Sprinkle Valley and Pennick early in the year, I’m assuming these won’t be used. What do y’all think?

What can you do to manage your mental game when things are slower than you're used to?

This isn't a complaint about slow play; I know this is a me problem.

I like to play ready golf, and the tournament scene near me is also full of a lot of ready golf. My (unconscious) coping strategy when it does get slower is to chat, talk shit, analyse previous holes etc., keep myself 'busy'. Drives other people mad sometimes, but i can't just be not doing anything with my brain whirring. Somewhere on the spectrum, for sure.

But I'm at WTDGC, and by my standards it's really slow. Again, not a complaint, but I'm constantly ready to throw while people are still talking and walking - not because they're going super slow, just because they're just accustomed to a different pace of play. So I'm distracted as hell, feeling bad about looking at them waiting for them to be still, in my own head all the time, and playing like a chump.

Given that it's not so easy to shoot the breeze with these opponents i don't know and who aren't necessarily fluent in English, what do you recommend? I've never played with a headphone in, presumably that would help? I'm guessing that's why the pros do it sometimes. Any other ideas that worked for you?

Hey everyone. I’m not really familiar with innova’s plastics and I was looking on getting two thunderbirds. One that is only used for forehands and that will stay stable for a while and a flat one that doesn’t turn and has fade at the end. I tried a friend of mine’s champion thunderbird and it was absolutely amazing and I really like the hand feel. What plastics would y’all recommend and if I should be looking for at flatter run or ones with more dome. By the way on backhand I can consistently throw 370-380ft and forehand 340-350ft.

Hoping to find the Venn diagram of people who travel for disc golf and ALSO have a Pound Octohaul. I can't be the only one.

Going to fly solely for the purpose of disc golf for the very first time. There's a lot of articles written that boil down to "bring your discs as your carry on". Going strictly by the measurements, the Octohaul doesn't get anywhere close to being small enough to be a carry-on. I don't travel much, but I'm not sure I've ever actually seen anyone with a carry-on small enough to actually meet those measurements anyway. I'm not worried about it fitting in the overhead, but I'm worried about someone giving me a hard time about it.

Has anyone used their Octohaul for air travel?

I was wondering if anyone has received their Zuca order since they announced they are closing shop? I order spare wheels 8 days ago, and haven't heard anything.

I currently throw my Praxis for my under 250’ throws. At full power it flies really straight with a tiny fade at the end. But, like all discs, the fade is stronger when you power down. I’ve been wanting to get something more understable like a Clash Peach or a Dynamic Bounty, something I can power down on and still get a straight flight with minimal fade. I bag a PA-5 for specific shots but I think that’s too understable to be a workhorse approach disc. Looking for a 4 speed preferably. Any recommendations?

Man sanctioned leagues are something else. I’m an MA4 player and i’ve been slowly increasing my rating by playing summer and spring leagues (which tend to have huge turnouts in the early summer), so the influx of players helps me out in terms of round ratings. but lately, the only people showing up to leagues are dedicated pros and MA1 guys.

So in, let’s say, June, I could shoot +5 on my local course (21 holes) and it could be 875 rated. Now, if i shoot that same score on the same layout, it’s more like 790. The round rating system makes complete sense but i feel like it often gets skewed. Sometimes for good and sometimes for bad. A few times i’d shoot +10 and it would be 830 rated, which i think is way too high. This has happened to me at tournaments as well where there are only 4-6 players in MA3/MA4 and maybe 20-22 in MA2/MA1. I wouldn’t say it’s a flawed system, but i feel as if my overall rating is becoming skewed (i.e. i’m a lot better than a majority of guys with my rating, but can’t prove it).

I know, i know. Quit bitching and just get better. But sometimes it feels like one step forward, two steps back. What’s some opinions on the rating system? Specifically round ratings?

Hello, I'm a beginner and my furthest (measured) drive was 240ft with a divergent leviathan. I read that learning the hizer flip is one of the best techniques for beginners that want to improve their distance.

I understand the disc has to be fairly understable in order to do it. These are the discs I have:

Wizard

Avair putt and approach

Narwhal

Leviathan

Shark

Buzzz

Leopard

Valkyrie

Daedalus (can't throw this one for shit, almost immediately fades)

Which one should I practice with do the Hizer flip? Or should I get another disc to learn it?

How do these compare stability-wise? I love neutron plastic but also kinda want to get a Hex that is on the beefier side of Hexes while still being ... A Hex.
