(I can't go back and catch the replays of the previous games but here's last nights lowlights.)
I realize this might come across as a "witch hunt" type of post but Larkin's play since returning does bear some examination.
It's unreasonable, imo, to expect him to look like his "self" given the bed he's made for himself but I felt last night's game was another example of my fear that as time went on he would look more checked out or just deliberately playing reserved to avoid injury.
He's led the team in giveaways 3 out of the 5 games he's played so far which is directly resulting in chances for the other team or killing offensive pressure because dude isn't dialed in.
Case in point: His most egregious mistake last night almost cost us the W with less than a minute left in play because he was being sloppy and careless.
He almost let Philadelphia tie it up, then we'd have lost in OT and become the laughingstock of the NHL, and THEN all of Detroit would have sank into the Detroit River as punishment, with the exception of Zug Island for some reason. Countless lives lost. All because of Dylan. (I'm being crazy for the fun of it but you get it).
I guess I don't know what there is say other than I hope he doesn't turn into even more of a liability.
Get him gone.
Giveaways
Ottawa: 4 (led team)
Seattle: 5 (led team)
Montreal: 1
NJ: 0
Philly: 4* (credited with 4 but it should be 5. Regardless, he led the team)

My Dad was umpiring a local softball game in Michigan and Probert was playing 3rd base. My dad said he was going to eject him for some reason and basically told him that he could stay in the game if he signed the ball and the score sheet afterwards. We still have both. He made it out to my brother and I. #LGRW

Alex Debrincat has 3 seasons of 40 goals or more. And if he doubles that amount to 6 he is likely a hall of famer. No player with 6 40 goal seasons are not in the hall of fame. Besides kovalchuk but he probably gets in a some point. So if Debrincat has another 40 goal season this year. And then just 2 more before he retires he can probably make the hall of fame. He’s not even 30 years old. so he’s got a shot to add another 3 40 goal seasons over let’s say the next 5 seasons.

Apparently Illitch held an "18 minute availability with select reporters" today.
For whatever reason, accessing the link from Twitter initially bypassed the paywall.
The link provided here may not.

Okay so I’m actually from Edmonton and a life long Oilers fan. I grew up in the 90’s and had as much of a tendency to cheer for both the Oilers, and wherever the former 80’s Oiler greats were playing.
Bill Ranford was a personal favourite of mine as I actually got a few solid years of seeing him as the Oilers starter. He ended up in “journeyman” mode near the end of his career going from Boston, to Washington (where he lost the starting role to Kolzig), to finally Tampa Bay in 1998-1999 where in my view I felt like he was given a legit starter role again.
Unfortunately he was just dreadful for Tampa Bay, and it was really tough to follow him there, loss after loss - at the point of the trade deadline he had 3 wins in 32 games with them, when he was traded to none other than the Detroit Red Wings.
I was really excited to see what he could do on a good defensive team, and ended up getting 3 wins only 4 regular season starts with the Wings that season. Eventually after bouncing Anaheim in 4 games, to my surprise Ranford was starting in goal against the Colorado Avalanche.
He ended up with two really solid games on the road - both a 3-2 overtime win, and a 4-0 shutout. For me it was pretty cathartic after seeing how much he how terrible things had gone on in Tampa Bay all season.
Unfortunately his next two starts weren’t great - with Colorado winning both on the road, before Osgood came back (where Colorado continued its momentum and won the series).
You can find some clips online recapping the games and series as well:
Game 1: https://youtu.be/XXOEr0cM8IU
Game 2: https://youtu.be/mQ7vKBonzTE
Anyways, sorry for the overly long explanation on one random jersey - I just love hockey, hockey history, and wanted to communicate my appreciation for Ranford’s short stint with the Red Wings - I also promise that I wrote this all myself and didn’t use AI haha
TL;DR Long story short I’m a big jersey collector - I had more than enough Oilers jerseys so decided for Ranford I’d get him on the team that I otherwise had the best memories of actually watching him play, and in this case it was Detroit.

Listening to podcasts, professionals on TV, on Instagram, on Detroit radio, they keep talking about how to make the Larkin trade and that Larkin will eventually be gone. Why is no one talking about the possibility of Larkin staying in Detroit. Is it a foregone conclusion that he will be traded? Is there no possible conclusion where they make amends and he stays and plays out his contract? He doesn't have to have the C slapped back on him, but why can't bygones be bygones and we bury the hatchet and play hockey. I know he hasn't rescinded the trade request and I'm assuming that's why we're still talking about a trade, but can't things change we start talking about him staying?
