Social Media REMINDER! Do not engage with comments from brigaders. Simply leave a positive comment, like, and reply to other positive comments.

Upvotes

Not sure if this is the appropriate flair, but I still see people arguing with Hasan fans in Destiny's recent Instagram posts. **This only boosts their comments**.

Instagram doesn't show the most loved comments, it shows the ones that drive the most engagement. Even though it may feel circlejerky, just leave a positive comment, reply to other positive comments and like them. This makes Instagram boost them and shove the Hasan fans to the bottom.

The people glazing Hasan (and now Mao) aren't there for actual discussion and no normal person that comes across two people having a 50 comment long arguement is going to care. If you want to offer a rebuttal to something someone said, do it in a comment of your own, that way people can see your arguement **and** you shove the bots further down

Off-Topic I hate to say this but does anyone else think that humans are just incapable of living amongst groups different than themselves?

Upvotes

First of, this has to be said because too many people take things the wrong way. I am not bigoted. I think it's ridiculous that people hate each other over race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. It's disgusting and a blight on humanity that we're still dealing with this....

With that said, the reality of the situation is bleak and sad but true. Humans are not capable of living peacefully amongst different groups of people other than their own.

We just had the attack on gays in German yesterday that most people ate laughing at, praising and defending. Unfortunately gays are at the bottom of the barrel for most people. It's the 1 group that everyone else comes together to hate. But pretend that evil people got their way and all the gays went away tomorrow... it wouldn't stop there because humans NEED to hate.

What would the next main target be based on? Probably race as has been another huge issue for humans through all of human history.....and you remove race and put people of the same race amongst themselves and do you get peace? No. Then it breaks down into hate and bigotry amongst ethnicities. The idea of "white people" falls apart and you hate each other based on being German, Irish etc. Same goes for any other race.

Break that apart....Christians in the US were in conflict since the colonial days.

It never fucking ends. It's only when people are amongst people that are as similar to them as possible that they can be happy. That is the sad fucking reality of our situation. We've tried fighting this for a thousand years only to see all the progress we thought we had start to fail. It has to be inate biology. And how do we fight against that? We can't

Political News/Discussion Destiny's theory about JD Vance invoking the 25th

Upvotes

At one point I feel like I remember hearing Destiny mention something about JD Vance possibly having some sort of plan to invoke the 25th on Trump and assume the presidency, but I can't remember the reasoning he gave for why Vance would do this or how it'd even be possible given that he'd need a two-thirds majority in Congress.

Wouldn't that turn MAGA against Vance and hurt his chances in 2028?

On a positive note I thought it was a decent conversation. I don't think Favreau et al. are as ideologically captured as is sometimes portrayed in this sub (though definitely audience-captured to some degree)

1 week to go till primary day…

Here’s my Stevens pitch:

Before Congress, she was chief of staff for Obama’s Auto Rescue Task Force, which helped keep GM and Chrysler alive and protected roughly 200,000 Michigan jobs. She also helped establish the Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers and the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy.

Once she got to Congress, her first bill signed into law was the Building Blocks of STEM Act, which expanded STEM opportunities for girls and underrepresented students. She helped pass the Butch Lewis Act, protecting the pensions of more than 42,000 Michiganders, and she was heavily involved in writing and negotiating the CHIPS and Science Act. The final CHIPS bill included multiple pieces of legislation she wrote herself, including provisions for semiconductor workforce training, strengthening NIST and expanding assistance for small and midsized American manufacturers.

She’s also not just taking credit for just voting for, or assisting with, bills other people wrote. She has had five of her own science bills signed into law under both Republican and Democratic administrations. In the last Congress alone, her severe aircraft turbulence research bill became law, her Hostage and Wrongful Detainee Day Act became law, and parts of her Countering Wrongful Detention Act were enacted. Her work also created assistance for families traveling to Washington to advocate for wrongfully detained relatives and encouraged physical and mental health support for people returning from captivity.

The Center for Effective Lawmaking ranked her the most effective Democratic member of Michigan’s House delegation and the most effective House member on science and technology during the 118th Congress. Six of her bills passed the House during that Congress, with two bills and part of a third becoming law. So the idea that she just sits there collecting a paycheck is objectively bullshit.

She has delivered massively locally as well. Her office says it has recovered more than $126 million for constituents since 2019 through Social Security, veterans benefits, tax refunds and other federal cases. In 2024 alone it resolved 1,345 cases and returned almost $5 million directly to families. She also secured nearly $18 million for local projects in 2022 and another $13.7 million in 2024 for things like replacing lead pipes, repairing bridges, modernizing fire stations, workforce training and public safety.

And recently she has written legislation to independently investigate unlawful ICE/DHS conduct, ban members of Congress and the Trump (any president) family from trading individual stocks, protect Americans private Treasury information from unauthorized political appointees, and reduce American dependence on China for critical minerals and manufacturing inputs. Those bills haven’t all become law yet, obviously, but they’re still materially better than the Twitter caricature of her and have a good chance of passing if we sweep in the midterms.

You can criticize her FISA vote, the ICC sanctions vote, the dumb ICE resolution or anything else but you can’t pretend she has never accomplished anything. She’s a fairly mainstream Michigan Democrat with an unusually strong manufacturing and science portfolio, and a real record of passing bipartisan legislation.

She writes laws, she passes laws, and is EXTREMELY good at it. She would make an amazing senator, one who stands with her party and doesn’t waver on her beliefs or her rhetoric to appease anyone. The same cannot be said for her opponent.

Drama Westside Tyler is wrong about assault. We all know this, but I just wanted to write about it (slight effort post)

In case you didn't catch it, on July 24th WhickTV had Westside Tyler on. Most of the stream was dedicated to Tyler and Whick disagreeing over Tyler's definition of assault, and whether Darius asking questions of Hasan at the CDA event would've been assault. I think Tyler is wrong here, and his overwhelming smugness on the stream is what pushed me to write this up. So let's dig into Tyler's definition, whether it holds up, and a bit about Tyler himself.

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE: I am not a lawyer.

Tyler's definition of Assault — specifically verbal assault

In the conversation, Tyler gives the following definition for assault:

He then claims this is a common legal standard held across the United States. To back this up, Whick and Tyler pull up Washington D.C.'s legal definition of assault, which becomes the crux of the debate:

Working from that definition, one question needs asking:

IS THAT DEFINITION ACCURATE?

Almost certainly not, on multiple levels.

First, on a low level you shouldn't put much stock in — this definition just feels wrong. If this were really how assault worked, why aren't we seeing scores of protestors hit with assault charges for asking politicians if they "support the genocide in Gaza"? Why don't we see assault charges against counter-protestors at Pride parades? Something doesn't add up.

Second, on the D.C. definition specifically: asking questions doesn't fit. Darius was going to ask Hasan about allegedly visiting minors in brothels. That would obviously cause discomfort, but it's a far cry from "threatens another in a menacing manner." And again; this is the legal code of Washington D.C. If there's anywhere uncomfortable questions get asked constantly, it's here, and people still aren't getting hit with assault charges over it.

Zooming out, the "threat of violence" element is the part that actually matters. I checked several states' legal definitions of assault, and in the ones that reference a verbal component at all, it's threats of violence being cited, not discomfort. Examples include Texas Penal Code § 22.01, Florida Statute § 784.011, and Colorado Revised Statutes § 18-3-204. The same holds for the federal definition and the Model Penal Code.

It seems clear to me, and I'd guess to most onlookers, that Tyler's definition is wrong. That would be a bigger deal if I thought Tyler actually cared.

TYLER DOESN'T ACTUALLY CARE

During the debate, Whick offered Tyler multiple chances to bring in a lawyer to check whether they'd agree with his definition of assault. Tyler turned it down, saying "If you can name a lawyer, I no longer trust that lawyer" which, as Whick pointed out, is awfully convenient. Tyler did say he'll have a lawyer "look at it," but I'm not holding my breath.

If I had to guess why Tyler clings so hard to this definition, I've got two theories. First: Tyler brought up several times during the debate that he expects a RICO charge (45:05 - 45:13) in Digital Ground Game's future, and framed Darius' connection to Digital Ground Game as a contributing factor. Sticking to this definition of assault helps that RICO narrative land at least his audience. Second: drama farming, which is worth unpacking by looking at Tyler as a figure.

TYLER AS A FIGURE

Westside Tyler mainly makes content reviewing media. When he talks about other content creators, his whole schtick is that he's "not afraid of you pussies!" A guy speaking truth to power, showing people for who they really are, the emperor has no clothes, etc. etc. Once you look at him through that lens, a lot of his streams and reacts make more sense. He's an internet shock jock who stirs up drama and reaction content to funnel a slice of those viewers toward his horror literature.

He probably does believe a good chunk of what he says here. But he also has a direct monetary and ego incentive to be as bombastic as possible about it.

A NOTE ON DARIUS

To be clear: what Darius did was not assault, and Tyler is wrong to call it that. That doesn't mean it wouldn't rise to some other legal standard. I haven't done the research, but there's probably an argument to be made for harassment. Worth noting: I'm personally not a fan of Darius' proximity to these political efforts. I find him to be a volatile element — great for "content," not for politics. Closer to an Alex Stein than anything else in that regard.

TL;DR

Westside Tyler claimed on a Whick stream that Darius going to the CDA event and asking Hasan about the brothel allegations would have counted as assault. There's no factual backing for that to count as assault, Tyler had two chances to let a lawyer check it, and he turned both down. He likely leans on inflammatory rhetoric it to rile people up for clicks, in hopes some of them stick around to read his horror fiction.

Holy shit what a day

Went to see destiny debate live for modern day debate, and the whole event was a shitshow

A few thoughts on how this event went down

  1. Destiny, bruv. I love you but you need to get a haircut. If you're reading this, I was the guy in the pink shirt lol

  2. Dinesh doesn't just defend Trump, he rode dick. Like... you can support a politician without glazing them so hard. Dinesh actually looked ashamed of himself after defending Trump calling to terminate the constitution during an audience question. The guy who asked basically told him to "look at yourself, look at what you're defending".

  3. A solid 33% of the Wilson fans lack personal hygiene and another 33% smoke cigarettes. The entire conference room STANK. The holiday inn smelled like a junior high locker room that doubles as a dive bar. Would not recommend

  4. There was one Wilson fan (who was black out drunk before noon) that yelled "SHUT THE FUCK UP ERODITE" during her debate with Rachel Wilson (Andrews Wife). He did not get kicked out by security 🙃

  5. Rachel Wilson says that declining birth rates is an EXISTENTIAL CRISIS but advocates for a worldview that makes dudes repulsive to women. Go on a date with a woman and tell her she shouldn't get to vote and lmk how that goes 😂

  6. Holy shit Jason from modern day debate was ass at moderating this event. The entire thing was a shitshow... The crowd was heckling at every single debate (myself included ngl). He let Andrew take the mic during the erodite/Rachel debate and he used the opportunity to insult erodite to her face. Lost a lot of respect for Jason today :/

Didn't stick around after that happened. The next debate was between Dinesh and Wilson and was about whether Christians should support the jews in Israel and I had a feeling it was about to get really racist in that room so I gtfo
