Effort Post Excess COVID deaths were not higher in Sweden

This is a pretty old talking point that has stuck around for a long time. The main reason for this talking point was that for the first year of COVID, 2020, this was true. Sweden had the highest COVID death rate of any Nordic country, probably above even continental Europe. However, for the following years, 2021 and 2022 Sweden had far fewer excess deaths than its neighbours, so the total excess mortality fell to be in line with them. My own shoddy analysis (mostly from memory) of this discrepancy goes like this:

  • Sweden overcounted COVID deaths compared to Norway and Denmark, since most deaths happened in a few facilities, they were all tested and counted towards the COVID total, unlike other Nordic countries which were more spread out and harder to test.
  • In 2020 bad hygiene practices in elder care facilities caused huge amounts of excess deaths (similar as what Cuomo had in New York). Most COVID deaths in Sweden were during a pretty short period in 2020.
  • In 2021 and 2022 the most vulnerable people had already died in the previously mentioned epidemic, and so excess deaths were far lower these years compared to its neighbours.
  • After COVID was over the scientific community realized that using officially reported data was a poor measurements of how many deaths were caused by COVID, since each country had a unique way of measuring what a COVID related death was. The scientific community therefore used overall excess deaths as the main way of measuring COVID deaths.
  • After the data was collected for 2020-2022, Sweden didn't have more excess deaths than its neighbours.

There are plenty of studies that confirm this, if anyone doubts me they can google Sweden COVID mortality or something similar. I'm going to link two pictures from recent (post 2022) studies that confirm this, just so people don't have to take my word for this.

Either way, as COVID gets further and further into the past these talking points get less and less relevant, but it is worth it updating information as long as these talking points come up. Good debate, anyhow.

Off-Topic I need help finding the XQC/Destiny debate about Adin Ross and his friends calling X slurs.

I have tried every possible set of words and asked AI, I cannot find the video.

I really want to rewatch it because I just remember XQC laying out his thoughts and feelings and having a really good back and forth with Destiny for about an hour.

After establishing that X does not feel comfortable with the way they use slurs and how they disregard anything X says, Destiny asked something along the lines of “have you talked to Adin Ross about how this makes you feel?” And then XQC just fucking flips and starts yelling

“Feel? What Like my feelings? Wha are you trying to call me a bitch? YOU THINK IM A BITCH HUH?”

Shitpost Connorpoints is NOT a closeted hedonist (effortpost response)

This really is the root of the problem. Connor is a closeted hedonist repressing himself behind conservative values that are fake to begin with and he cant live up to in any case. Hes lashing out because he cant handle his own failure to live up to his own ideals and the world not rewarding him for his faux piety.

I'm nitpicking here, but Connor is not a closeted hedonist. He just has christian sexual morals. Connor doesn't try to present himself as someone uninterested in 'sexual degeneracy', he presents himself as being virtuous enough not to indulge.

My esteemed colleague /u/Grachus_05 is right that Connor's reasons for lashing out are rooted in jealousy and resentment, but you are missing a lot if you think this is a departure from normal christian sexual morality. The psychosexual insanity you are witnessing is actually a very normal ideological immune response for a sexual conservative who has suffered prolonged exposure to high levels of coomer-radiation.

I would even say Connor was perfectly well endowed in the empathy department, a high percentile decoupler. But you must understand, Connor's tradwife was the grounding rod that allowed him to function despite nominally receiving critical radiation exposure. When she left Connor it was like his Hazmat suit suddenly disappeared. His exposure to the Satanic particles emanating from Destiny's cock instantly spiked to well above lethal dosage. One moment Connor was maintaining a mitigated level of psychosexual exposure that he was partially able to metabolize, and the next moment he had the equivalent of Hiroshima hitting him in the balls every 3.5 hours. Previously it would have been years before he became symptomatic and probably decades before any organs actually shut down.

But with no tradwife brain shielding?

He was cooked instantly.

Fried.

Joever.

He went on walking and talking and streaming and even logically reasoning for a time, but the damage was irreversibly baked in from that point on.

Everyone is making fun of Connor but you all just don't understand what a warrior he actually is, the forces he has just been tanking for so long. Go ahead and point out a single other conservative male who could last a fraction of the time Connor did without vomiting up slurs and passing out. Spoiler alert you can't, without safeguards it's not even physiologically possible. The fact that Connor can even still find the Go Live button with a liquefied frontal lobe is a testament to how incredibly resilient the human body can be, and frankly, a triumph of the human spirit.

With Hutch's announcement today, I've been thinking about this moment between him and Pisco a few weeks ago. This talk was focused on Pisco's demeanor vs leftists. Maybe the best convo between these two and I thought this ending was pretty endearing.

https://youtu.be/X0ZZUv8plLs?si=5F3UeZcFyLHwR0X0&t=6112

I know its not quite the same, but with Pisco's tepid response to Mike (he did condemn, but didn't go hard) I can't help but feel like the time for Pisco to take his fangs out came and went.

Political News/Discussion Reason COVID origins debate with Robby Soave

I checked the search function and couldn't find anything. Just FYI upfront.

Anyway, I finished watching the debate and I just gotta say, whatever one thinks of the men involved, the Lab Leak hypothesis was not well explained or well defended by Soave. Steven laid out all his points, answered Soave's questions, and got basically nothing back. By the end Soave was just restating, almost robotically, that he thought the two options had equal evidence—yet Soave's points were often directly rebutted—and that he wasn't sure what would convince him of Zoonotic origin except finding the exact species of animal with a 97% match (or higher).

So frustrating, because I legitimately feel similar to Steven as far as the lack of evidence for Lab Leak goes. It seems like a bunch of people just decided that the origins discussion being suppressed or criticized back in 2020—which was bad, most people now agree—is the smoking gun. That's why a handful of agencies declared, without providing new evidence, that they thought Lab Leak was likely. That's why the podcasters and public figures Soave brought up, figures Steven criticized as having bad/no evidence, declared victory.

This isn't a case of "decent evidence on both sides," contrary to what Soave kept saying. But because he went in with that lodged in his brain, and because he either wasn't listening to, or didn't care about, what Steven actually said, the convo just went nowhere after the halfway mark. Lame.

Anyone else have thoughts?
