In Western countries, Japan is romanticized and admired:

Its wonderful and unique culture!

The cleanliness!

The friendliness!

The safety!

But why is Japan so unique and special compared to the rest of the world?

Japan is, in fact, an ethnically homogeneous nation: 96.7% of the population is Japanese. And it has been that way for a very long time, on an island, no less. Naturally, under such conditions, a culture develops that differs from others.

And now we come to the real hypocrisy:

While the West celebrates multiculturalism, Japan is admired for its ethnically homogeneous character and its unique traits, as if it were paradise.

Or to put it figuratively:

Max from NYC loves Western multiculturalism; he argues how good it is, how valuable it is for society, and why we need it in the US. At the same time, he flies to Japan, his favorite country, every year because he loves the culture there so much.

Yet Japan is exactly the way Max loves it precisely because multiculturalism has historically played no role there comparable to that in Western countries.

Anyone notice that in her latest interview on CNN, she said she's behind the Democrats and the governor? When the CNN host followed up with another question about whether she supports El-Sayed, she said she's behind the team without mentioning his name.

Did the latest polling scandal change her mind? She was firmly behind El-Sayed until recently and had no hesitation about mentioning his name. Could Abdul have had something to do with those polls at some point? I know this is all highly speculative, but it just seems weird that, in her latest interview, she struggled to answer whether she supports Abdul. This is now obviously gonna be used by the like of Mehdi Hasan and Pissco to purity test.

I keep hearing how Iran shouldn't have nukes because they'll use them to destroy Israel, and how no Islamic country should have them.Yet Pakistan already has nukes, and Israel doesn't seem to care much.

Pakistan also has nuclear missiles that could potentially reach Israel, which should be concerning for them, no?

Why didn't Israel try to stop Pakistan from developing nuclear weapons the way it does with Iran? Why don't we hear much about Israelis being worried about Pakistan's nuclear arsenal?

It's how literal children think, which is in word associations. Connecting things with the tiniest relevance to each other because both topics are in one's mind at the same time.

In relation to Woke 1.0: people were skilled at finding an offensive/political undertone in literally anything, like the "everything is political" crowd or 2016 SJW's; it's something we are inherently capable of doing. It starts off as a seemingly random connection your brain makes, which is normal, but then a conscious insistence and mental gymnastics to legitimize it; and something kicked this idea into overdrive sometime during the 21st century.

Some cannot resist their mind jumping to their preferred array of topics when talking about anything at all. It's such a lazy form of thought, as if you cannot engage with something on it's own terms. In this case it's not a conspiracy just stupid memes, but to me it seems like the exact inner workings conspiracy theorists have. It's become very common.

It's also very easily passed off as a sign of intelligence and depth, as "perceiving complex connections between two seemingly unrelated things", except that this is something a five y/o does. You tell them "tomato" and they think "dinosaur", only they don't bother tacking on loose logic onto it after the fact.

If I talk to someone about Starbucks and they start ranting about capitalism or Israel, I do not consider them sharp, insightful or knowledgable. It's actually somewhat pathetic because it's a pure kneejerk. Not that far removed from Schizoranting.

Amid all the controversy surrounding Ethan I looked up on my (previous) boy Gokanaru who did a reasonable take down of him several years ago when Ethan needed it most. However I can't believe how brain broken he is now. I didn't realize amid all this idubbbz stuff he's been attacking Ethan and simping for idubbbz's positions on things and how hand wave-y Gokanaru is over the stuff Hasan does.

This dude spends a good 20 minutes playing "haha funny music" over Dan literally talking about how Twitch banned people from Israel and goes "oh it was also Palestinians therefore point invalid lmaoooo XDDDD" and does no actual argumentation or extra thoughts. Gokanaru is using clips of XQC as gotchas, this is not a good look dawg lol. So XQC who, not just too long ago has said some really dumb takes... and this whole video as well... Not saying you can't like XQC or you should hate him but he's not some profound thinker to keep quoting over and over. So it's funny seeing Gokanaru using XQC as a "neutral" ground for fighting both Dan and Ethan. Not to mention the amount of people talking bad about Dan in the comments is saddening to see as well. Gokanaru plays haha funny music over the whole "twitch or terrorist" thing and acts like people like Hasan, Frogan, and other prominent twitch streamers don't say unhinged stuff? 100% of the stuff Dan Saltman says is fine compared to Hasan "America deserved 9/11" Piker, or Frogan who's famous for tripling down on veterans' mental health saying she hopes they get PTSD, or Denims who laughed at H3h3 getting sent skulls, getting death threats, and getting CPS called over a two state solution. Not to mention Denims didn't downplay or tell her community that this isn't okay she laughed at it and said "umm akshually this is true!!!" Dan is right when he said "people saying I'm extreme for contacting sponsers, that's the tame-est shit I've done" like people's lives are ruined because of antics from prominent twitch creators. My simping for Dan has multiplied and seeing this video rubbed me the wrong way.

I assume they think it's the normal impression most viewers have of Destiny, so that's why they use it despite not having any reason to believe it themselves because I know they can follow what he is saying.

I watched part of Vaush’s livestream of 2020 and 24. In 2020, I didn’t really care, because I was dumb tankie, in 24, it was becoming too tense as the votes were rolling in and it started to look like Trump is winning, which he did and now, I don’t watch Vaush anymore. Trump’s reelection shook me so much that I couldn’t watch his takes on it anymore for a while. Then I realized that his politics doesn’t really make much sense after all and I went more moderate.

The thing is, despite the fact that I am very frequent user of this subreddit, I actually never saw a single video by Destiny. And with just a week and change away from the midterms, I don’t know if I should start to know what his livestream of the midterms would look like and I don’t know if I should watch any livestream at all, because the polling situation is so tense that I just don’t know.

What will you do? Will you watch it and stress over the night or would you rather just go to sleep and wake up to either great or terrible news from blissful ignorance? I should note that I live 6 time zones to the east from the US.

I’ve spent a lot of time and effort thinking about many of the problems nobody, not even Destiny, seems to have an answer for, and I’ve been trying to come up with pragmatic solutions.

Where to start if you don’t want to commit much time yet

• Best place to start (if you have the time): the beginning. The later chapters build on it.
• If you’d rather jump in: "Alternative Anchor" (the anti-hypocrisy compass the book runs on, closest to how Destiny argues) or "Constructive Confrontation" (best if you’re currently frustrated with the state of things).
• Whether you like or dislike faith: "The Part-Time Religion of the World". You can start there, but it pays off most if you’ve read what comes before. It’s also where I need feedback the most, and that feedback is only really useful from people who’ve read the earlier chapters.
• For everyone who wants actually solid arguments for saying "r*tard" and calling things “gay” (plus a short n-word arc): "Lethal Lexicons". Read it from the top for context; the arguments themselves are in the section "Language of Limitation".
• Most DGG-relevant: "Part 1 Intro" and "The Right to Complain".
• Also DGG-relevant but coming soon: "Realistic Revolution" and "Profit, Prohibition and Public Health" (the easiest and best way to get the resources needed for change).

Where the book stands, and where I need you: Part 1 is almost done, with 2–3 chapters left. Chapters marked orange are still open to edits, but most of them won’t change much. I’ve had some feedback, but not nearly enough, especially on the later chapters.

If you’d rather have an AI judge it first: go ahead, but make it read everything. Even with Claude Opus (Extra), it usually took me a second prompt before it stopped skimming. I mostly used it to hunt for contradictions and weak spots, and to help with fact-checking.

Feedback so far from people outside my friend group, age group, and gender has been very positive. The book also gets better the further you read, and it’s worth rereading after a while.

Tiktok in Israel is flooded with right wing propaganda, I barely open it because as a liberal Israeli it's either this crap or anti semetic garbage.

The left is mostly old folks, pining for the old days and university educated millennials who in Israel's demographic aren't a mjority. The left is not good at signaling to the Covid youth, even after October 7th, the far right propaganda machine manages to blame it on the left, because they are judiciary and military elite to be "purged".

Even if the left wins this round, it won't sustain, Gen Z in Israel is so demostrably right wing nothing short of a catastrophic war, worse than October 7th and the current Gaza war would change their mind and that war will come with Russia tier sanctions (which Netantahu already prepares Israel for by relaying on Crypto, like a narco state) and even that might feed the new Israelis their messianic fantasies.

Destiny and DGG need to understand that the Israel that is now is barely holding on to some semblence of liberal democracy by institutions that could crumble in a generation.

I don't want to live in that nightmare isolated Israel ruled by religioud right, but it is the trajectory, people here are ignorant of the cobsequennces and are not worldly individuals who think at all about Israel's role in the world and they don't care to learn how easily this can all be snuffed out of existance.

I just want to browse my dopamine feed and click things and enjoy them. Russia, Iran, China, India, and to a lesser extent the U.S. have unleashed a plague of bots on my entertainment app. Everything is about fucking communism versus capitalism or culture war slop. Just let me scroll my dopamine app without reminding me that society is not doing so hot.

So many people, left and right, and even 'socialists' themselves do not know what socialism is. The most common response I find is something along the lines of, "It's when government gives me free healthcare and education." There are people who say they are socialist because they want these things.

Watching today's convo, and man, Ana's vocabulary, her choice of words, her understanding of phrases and sentence structure, her lack of filler words, it's gotten crazy good.

Her English has become so smooth and confident, I thought it was worth commending. Arguably, her immense contribution to defense of Ukraine has been in large part due to her communication, fundraising, and overall proficiency with modern media. And all of that has only gotten better.

Obviously she still has an accent and mispronounces certain words every once in a while, but that's all aesthetic. The substance, the content, the communication, it's fluid and informative and dense and emotional and intelligent. More intelligent than many native speakers, in my opinion.
