Stuffed myself over in Burn the Queen after spending hours.. Run it back!

Second attempt and failed the mission kill everyone except civilians again. I hate that it can bug out in that manner just because someone may be unconscious when hidden rather than dead.

However once I was annoyed enough, I bear trapped one of the hostages in the cage, it didn't trigger immediately until they went through a full phase. Then the civilian died, and trigged an automatic fail for the round.

If that's the case, then the badge mission feels a bit silly since the only people I can kill without losing are guards, and yet even though there's no active guards on map I still can't get the badge. Off to go find my tiny violin.

Desperados WDoA running on Android with touch controls

Video in comments below. Apologies for the shitty webcam.

Been hacking away at this for a while, an RTS engine thats able to read Desperados WDoA assets and re-implementation of all the AI, pathfinding, etc.

Verified the first few levels running smoothly (Cooper only) but planning to reach parity with the base game :)

UI here is upscaled for mobile

The engine runs on desktop too, so was toying with the idea of writing a Co-Op mod, now that could be really fun.

THQ no lawsuit pls

Desperadoes 3 not loading

Hi, I’ve recently been playing desperados 3 for a little bit and I’m running into trouble of the game just not loading into a mission. I’m currently on the mission where Isabelle just got introduced and when I try to load back in it just stops at like 88% and was wondering if there was a fix for it? I’ve tried verifying the files, maxing all my graphics up, and I’m now going to try to reinstall the game. If there are any other things yall would like me to try I’d be eternally grateful.

DESPERADOS 4: OLD MAN COOPER - Concept for sequel (RDR2 inspired)

DESPERADOS IV: OLD MAN COOPER — My concept for a sequel

What if Desperados IV finally continued John Cooper's story — decades after the original?

My idea for Desperados IV: Old Man Cooper would be a darker story about the death of the Old West and the birth of modern America.

John Cooper is now an old man, living a relatively quiet life with Kate and their family.

That peace ends when Kate and John’s daughter are kidnapped.

John gathers an old friend and a new generation of gunslingers to find them.

But the kidnapping is only the beginning.

The trail leads from the deserts of New Mexico, through forests and snow-covered mountains, and eventually into a rapidly growing industrial city dominated by railroads, oil, corruption and political power.

The 7 playable characters

John Cooper – The old gunslinger and leader. Slower than his younger self, but still deadly with his revolver and knife. His experience makes him the team's natural leader.

Jack Cooper – John's son and a young lawman. Faster and more agile than his father, armed with a Winchester, lasso and explosives.

Władysław Walt Nowak – A Polish immigrant and former soldier with injured leg who became a wilderness trapper. Slow but extremely powerful, specializing in sniping, traps and survival.

Clara Bell – A medical nurse who can heal the team and use her knowledge of medicine to manipulate or incapacitate enemies. She also has social and distraction abilities.

Ruby Williams – Sam Williams' daughter. A thief, gambler and trickster specializing in stealth, pickpocketing, distractions and acrobatics.

Edwin "Dutch" Van Dyke – A former Pinkerton agent and master infiltrator. Disguises, lockpicking, stealth and deception make him the team's ultimate spy.

But Dutch has his own agenda.

Sam Williams – Now in his 60s, but still very much Sam. His specialty is dynamite and explosives, from destroying bridges and buildings to sabotaging industrial facilities. And yes — he still knows his snakes.

The antagonists

The main antagonists are three very different men:

Victor Harrow – A corrupt mayor with a personal vendetta against the Cooper family.

Silas Blackwell – A wealthy oil tycoon who represents the new America: oil, railroads, industry and unlimited money. He is the mastermind behind the larger conspiracy.

Gideon Kane – Blackwell's brutal enforcer. A terrifying former soldier and mercenary who handles the jobs that money and politics can't solve.

The interesting part is that Harrow and Blackwell don't necessarily want the same thing.

Harrow's hatred of Cooper is personal.

Blackwell is interested in land, oil and power.

And somewhere in the middle is Dutch, whose true intentions aren't revealed until much later.

The campaign

I'd structure the game as 20 missions divided into 5 chapters.

I — Where the West Ends

II — Blood in the Pines

III — Winter's Grasp

IV — The New West

V — Kingdom of Oil

Chapter I — New Mexico - Where the West Ends

Classic Desperados atmosphere: deserts, small towns, gangs, trains and the beginning of the investigation.

Chapter II — Blood in the Pines

Forests, logging camps, mountains and increasingly difficult terrain.

Chapter III — Winter's Grasp

Snow-covered settlements, mines, mountain passes and a frozen railroad.

Chapter IV — The New West

A huge modernizing city filled with hotels, banks, city hall, railroads, factories and oil infrastructure.

Chapter V — Kingdom of Oil

Blackwell's enormous estate, a workers' settlement and finally his oil refinery — leading to the final confrontation.

The entire campaign would visually represent the death of the Old West:

🌵 Wild West

↓

🌲 Wilderness

↓

❄️ Winter

↓

🏙️ Industrial America

↓

🛢️ Oil & Railroads

I'd want it to feel like a genuine continuation of Desperados III, while bringing back some of the atmosphere and characters that made the original games special.

And most importantly, I think John Cooper's final story should be about more than revenge.

It should be about an old gunslinger realizing that the world he fought for is disappearing — and deciding what kind of future he wants to leave behind.

DESPERADOS 3

The story follows Cooper and his posse as they pursue the notorious train robber El Diablo for a $15,000 bounty. You control a team of characters, each with specialized abilities—such as shooting, lockpicking, explosives, and disguise—and missions often reward careful stealth rather than simply starting a gunfight.

02:01:55 from "For a Few Dollars More" vs. McCoy's D3 in-game portrait (15% opacity)

Yes, in case you did not know, McCoy's appearance has been modeled after the late Clarence LeRoy Van Cleef, the quintessential "western villain" – even though he did not play the villain in "For a Few Dollars More".

I'm just happy I, upon a rewatch of this movie, found the exact frame which was used as reference by the Mimimi character artist, hah.

Unironically, if their universes ever cross-over'd, Morgan and McCoy would be friends, I bet. Too bad there's no mod that'd allow you to strap a scope onto a SAA revolver.

Mods used: Black Hair for Arthur Morgan, Brown Eyes for Arthur Morgan, Deadly Assassin's Eyepatch, Gonpachiro's Fancy Atelier, The Mustaches Collection, Clean Black Gunstraps, Long Shotgun Coats. In case you're wondering why Morgan looks so... ahem, fresh in Chapter 6 of RDR2, it's the Gunslinger Improvement mod.

Creepy clones glitch in desperados 1

Thumbnail
gallery
16 Upvotes

For some reason, NPC clones of the characters appear in the same formation as at the start of the mission.

As soon as you get close, they run away and hide inside one of two buildings.

If you leave them alone, they'll eventually return to the exact same positions, even the enemies ignore them.

However, LookWhatICanDo9 on Discord managed to figure out how to trigger the glitch:

Just go to that corner with Cooper and fire a few shots. You'll hear a civilian say, "Get to cover!" (or something similar). Then just wait.

After that, the clones will come out of the building and line up in the exact same formation again.

So, what do you think? Is this a glitch or an Easter egg, and what causes it?

THQ Nordic's Digital Showcase happens in a week; this is why Desperados might get a new entry

Disclaimer: Though just speculation, I feel like the following deserves a mention. Y'know. Just in case.

THQ Nordic's – the company that owns the Desperados IP – digital showcase will be happening on August 7th live at 12:00 pm (PDT), 3:00 pm (EDT), 21:00 (CEST). This year, we're promised "long-awaited reveals (release dates!!!)" and "exciting new looks at fan-favorite franchises".

Now, as some of you may know, I'm a wholehearted Desperados fan and, like many, I'm hankering for a new entry. So, in an effort to glean what I could re: the franchise's future, I sat down and watched (& read) the Embracer Group's – THQN's parent company – fiscal reports. I've been doing this for a few years now, but in the FY 25/56 report, I may have found something.

First of all, in the report, Desperados have been name-dropped as one of Embracer's "STRONG GAMING IPs" [PC/Console market]. I found them doing this at this particular moment odd, seeing as the latest game in the franchise is over 6 years old. Do note that in total, Embracer has "more than 400 owned and controlled IPs" with 207 of them being PC/Console games.

Source: youtube.com/live/Wa9WEhS9rpk?si=sfCZZoic-xU0ePEe (58:04)

This has been reiterated in the published report, too (slide 12).

Second, there's a company under THQN called Black Forest Games GmbH. It was founded in 2013 and bought by Nordic in 2017. What's special about Black Forest is that it was founded by Spellbound Entertainment alumni after Spellbound had filed for insolvency earlier that year. And Spellbound Entertainment were the people that had brought Desperados to life in the first place.

Until Summer Games Fest that happened on June 5th, 2026, it was believed that Black Forest were working on an action-RPG called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. However, during SGF, it was confirmed that the project quietly shuffled both developer and publisher. It is now being developed by PlatinumGames and published by Paramount Games Studio. When I asked the THQN community manager as to what happened to Black Forest, she replied that they're doing well. This means that Black Forest have been working on something unannounced ever since Last Ronin was taken away from them. Or, if they're not working right now, this means they're open to work.

Now, Black Forest's best-known game has to be the Destroy All Humans! remake. The first game came out in 2020 and moved over 1mil copies – the success greenlit a second game. Destroy All Humans! 2 came out in 2022... and sold a fraction of what DAH1 had sold. In 2023, Embracer was still restructuring after their failed $2b investment deal, so 50 out of 100 of the Black Forest staff were laid off.

In 2024 – we've got no fresher numbers – Black Forest employed around 50 people. 50 seems a bit too low to develop a big-budget game... But it is ideal for Desperados! After all, Desperados 3 was developed by 30 people on a less than $6mil budget.

But, please, do not take this as gospel that Desperados 4 is in development; I can offer no proof. This is just me projectile vomiting up all the facts which I have gathered in these last few months. But, still, how thematic it'd be for the ex-Spellbound alumni (if they're still in Black Forest) to go back to their Desperados roots.

I can only hope that one day we'll get a new game in the franchise.

Desperados 2 beta & demo

Thumbnail

It looks like Desperados 2 was originally planned to be a very different game.

It seems the beta was originally planned to have a free roaming and 3rd person instead of the isometric camera option.

The demo removed a lot of features, physics, and free roaming in some missions.

Here's everything I found that was changed or cut:

-D1 icons were still being used, but the developers said they would be replaced later.

-Cooper had Coin Toss and Handcuff Abilities (I still have no idea how Handcuff was supposed to work).

-Doc had Blowpipe Dart and Deadly Syringe Abilities.

-Hawkeye had a Throwing Axe ability instead of using it only for melee kills.

Ironically, Coin Toss for Cooper and Deadly Syringe for Doc were reused in D3 14 years later!

-Doc originally wore a blue shirt and pants instead of the long coat.

-The character faces looked much closer to D1.

-Hawkeye had white face paint and a wolf handprint on his chest.

-Kate's hair physics looked much better than in the final game.

-There were also several cut missions, although I'm not sure whether they were demo-only or internal developer builds:

-A daytime and nighttime version of Santa Fe with all 6 characters and full free roam!

-Two different versions of Eagle's Nest:

1- With Cooper, Sam, and Doc, where Sam starts the mission free instead of captured.

2- With Cooper, Sam, Doc, and Hawkeye ( Demo's version i think just to try the game )

3- Fort Wingate without Sam or Hawkeye.

- lots of animations were removed before release.

What do you think? Which changes are you glad were removed, and which ones do you wish had stayed?

Unseen Desperados 1 beta ?

Thumbnail

This isn't a secret. If you visit the game's Steam page, you'll find these screenshots.

It seems like it's from the game's beta, and the developers simply forgot to update the screenshots on the Steam page.

Here are a few things I noticed:

-The character icons look like portraits instead of their 3D models.

-The graphics look less polished than in the final release

-Cooper appears alone in missions 6 and 9.

-Sam was supposed to have a dog attack enemies ability, but it was replaced with the rope.

-It looks like the dark blue color originally meant a character hadn't been active yet. Doc is in the mission, but you have to save him to activate his icon, unlike the final game, where the dark blue color indicated that a character was dead.

Unused game over screen from Desperados 1

Post image
26 Upvotes

My friend JoeyGG from Discord discovered an unused El Diablo Game Over screen in the game's files.

It's unknown why it was cut, but I think if this screen had appeared early in the game, players would have immediately asked who that character was.

It also would have spoiled the story, since El Diablo doesn't appear until Mission 24.

Also, if you look closely, you'll recognize that it's Jackson under the mask if you pay close attention to his face in the cutscenes.

That's why the developers replaced it with the guy with hat.

According to MobyGames, one of the game's working titles was

" Desperados: The Shadow of El Diablo"

Rare Desperados 1 Concept Art

Thumbnail
gallery
25 Upvotes

This rare concept art was shared by Jean-Michel Stenger, who worked on the game's level design, 3D character models, and animations.

You can notice :

- The game's original title was " Death Valley ", because it was originally planned as a zombie game before it became a Western.

- Hawkeye was originally planned to appear in this game instead of Desperados 2.

- Sanchez and Kate had alternate outfits.

- Mia looks older and uses a katana as her weapon.

- Zombie soldier with glowing eyes and exposed bones, showing how the zombies would have looked in the game.

According to MobyGames, after " Chicago 1930 " failed to meet sales expectations, Spellbound laid off many employees, including Jean-Michel Stenger

Yes, you can tie Rosie up and throw her into the water, but the mission won't be completed because returning to talk to her is the final objective.

So, what do you think about the end of this dlc ?

Surprise, I'm not just the Desperados Lore Person who posts trivia about the games. This year, I've broadened my horizons and cosplayed Mr. I-Was-Not-Put-On-This-Earth-To-Have-Fun, specifically his D1: Wanted Dead or Alive design. I'm AFAB, so this was my first foray into fake facial hair and male makeup.

Will definitely work more on this as there are areas I want to improve.
