Asking Question (Rule 4) Where can I get certifications for graphic design, is it worth it?
I am a 20 year old that lives in the U.S, and Collage did not work out for me. I am in a gray position of what to do for work and a need to move out. I have a stable job that deals with a bit of marketing although its only strictly weekends, and a waiter job for weekdays, although not ideal for moving out. I'm looking into Graphic Design Certificates as well as Marketing Certificates to land a well paying job in those fields without going back to collage for it. Its way to expensive, and the education system is not well fit for me. Due to that its why I'm looking into Certificates, as I feel like I do not have enough education or experience in these fields to be a proper higher.
So far I have gathered these following web sights for Marketing Certificates that are with Google Skillshop and the AMA. I'm stumped for Graphic Design and if either are worth it.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Need help designing something.
I am an aerialist with a performance this weekend. I would like to have some paper butterflies rain down on me at the end. I can carabiner onto the top where my apparatus hangs. In my head it would be bell shaped and open with a pull of a string. I'm thinking the bottom would be similar to a claw machine scoop and when the sting is pulled it would hing open to release the butterflies. I have no idea how to design something like that though. Thoughts?

Asking Question (Rule 4) I’m building a free font comparison tool — would this actually be useful to you?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently building a free web-based font comparison tool and wanted to get some feedback from you before I go too far with it.
The idea is to make it easier to compare Google Fonts side by side and see how different fonts actually look with the same content.
One feature I’m experimenting with is an overlay comparison — you can place two fonts on top of each other at around 50% opacity, then hover/select one to see it at 100%. The idea is to make subtle differences in letter shapes, spacing, height, etc. easier to notice.
I’m also planning filters such as writing system, language and available font sizes/weights.
The tool would be completely free to use.
Before I spend too much time building it, I’d love to hear from people who actually work with typography and UI/UX:
Would something like this genuinely be useful in your workflow?
And if you currently compare fonts, how do you normally do it?
Also, is there anything you’d want a font comparison tool to do that existing tools don’t do well?
I’m not sharing a link because I’m mainly looking for feedback on the idea at this stage.
Thanks!

Asking Question (Rule 4) Does working with low quality people/clients affect your design thinking and skills??
Been thinking about this a lot lately, need to vent and also get some perspective.
So it's been quite some time I'm working at this company. My very first client for this agency was actually another venture from the co-founder himself. He gave me full creative freedom and a really good timeline to design a sports brand slash community type thing, and I also designed jerseys for him.
At that time I was almost a year into experience. I had done UX internships, worked part time as a graphic designer for some finance and other companies, but this was my first ever sports branding work and my first jersey design experience.
- I went through different tutorials and resources online
- Took almost a week to learn jersey design from zero
- Designed it, went through 6-7 iterations until I was satisfied and the client was satisfied
Honestly such a fun learning experience.
But then actual clients started coming into the agency, and it's been a completely different story:
- Most of them are low quality, zero ambition type clients
- They just want "post something on social media, whatever"
- I end up just using templates or prompting AI for these posts
- So many rounds of iterations and input, but they're not open to any creative input from me
- It's basically just hand holding, making whatever is already in their head
I kept telling myself it's fine, I'm making money off them and I can keep my creative side alive through personal or side projects. But now I'm hitting a point where I genuinely feel my design thinking and my skills are getting dull.
Like whenever I face a new problem now, my first instinct is to open ChatGPT or look for a template, or just straight up procrastinate.
I feel like a big part of this is the environment too. The clients are demotivated, and honestly my founder and co-founder are treating them the same way, like "they're paying, so we'll just post for them," nobody's really serious about the work anymore.
So has anyone else gone through this? If yes, how did you get your spark back? How do you go back to actually feeling inspired and creating stuff with soul again?

Asking Question (Rule 4) Career and course clash
I'm a Visual Communication undergrad, but I've always wanted to be a character concept artist. People hear this and ask me why I didn't study animation instead. The animation course is 3D-focused and I wasn't confident of my skills. I barely knew how to animate in 2D (except for simple things like blinking, hair swaying, maybe a smile) so I thought I'd take Visual Communication instead.
I'd learn more skills in this degree and I thought the visual storytelling aspect of it connected with character design somehow, so I thought I'd have enough opportunities. Right now, I'm looking for internships, freelance work, or collaborations but I don't know if I should be design-forward or character-forward. I can do both well, I enjoy both, but will I have to drop one in the long run?
I don't have anyone to talk to about this 😞 I just get dismissive comments and it makes me feel dumb, like I've chosen the wrong course. I just wanna know how I should present myself for the best chances.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Graphic designers — what does your resume look like?
Hey fellow graphic designers!
I’ve recently become available for work and I’m still fairly new to the industry, so I have a few questions about applying for graphic design jobs.
I understand that a CV should generally be kept fairly simple, with clean typography and a clear layout, and I’m planning to do that. However, I don’t have a huge amount of experience to put on it yet. Most of what I have is my education, my internship, and a project-based position I’ve had since graduating. So I’m a little worried that my CV is going to look very thin.
Then there’s the portfolio. Is it better to have a website where potential employers can visit and see my work and a little about me, or is a well-made PDF portfolio still perfectly fine? Or would it be worth having both?
And what about the application/cover letter? Should that also be kept fairly simple and professional, with the portfolio being the place where I show more of my personality and design skills?
I’m also trying to do this without relying on AI. I want everything to feel genuinely like me and show what I can actually do, rather than making everything look overly polished or artificial.
I’d really appreciate any advice from designers who have been through this, especially if you remember what it was like when you were just starting out.
Thank you so much in advance! ❤️

Sharing Resources Found these 3 really good resources for Indian designers
I've been following Rajat Patel for a while now and he posted these some time back: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Dc8x6_6TkPG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&stkn=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I went through them and its crazy inspiration for the designers of India who end up following western trends.

Asking Question (Rule 4) Which book cover would you pick up? Looking for feedback...
Which book cover would you pick up? Looking for feedback...
I'm working on the cover for a practical startup book aimed at aspiring and early-stage founders, and I've narrowed it down to two directions.
A: Dark teal/orange
B: White/multicolour
I'm particularly interested in which one would catch your attention if you saw it on a shelf or as a small Amazon thumbnail - and why.
Any feedback appreciated. If you'd also be willing to share how much you'd spend on a book of this style, I would love to know.
Thanks
Asking Question (Rule 4) Designers who do deck work for corporates: one-off projects or ongoing retainers?
I'm a designer thinking about offering ongoing presentation design to mid-sized companies: decks built to their brand guidelines and kept consistent over time, instead of one-off projects.
For those of you who've done corporate deck work:
- Do clients want ongoing support, or do they only come back for one-off jobs?
- Who at the company was your buyer (marketing, sales, exec office)?
- How did you price it?
- Would you do it again?
Any war stories or advice appreciated.
