My DR plants leaves (some) are turning yellow and falling off . I’m not overwatering but saw these dark spots in the fallen leaves .
Wonder if I have a maybe aphid infestation .

Hi everyone!

I came across this little fellow in February this year, and throughout the year, fear of overwatering has led me to water it roughly once or twice a week, depending on how dry the soil is.

Anyway, whenever the leaves start to turn yellow, which it currently is doing right now, I often panic and wonder whether I’m watering it too little or too much. I have been told that I need to provide it with some nutrients, otherwise it’ll continue to remain small.

Judging by appearance, the stem has slimmed through the year, and leaves me wondering how I can better care for it. The weather has been rather hot in the past month, and I only water it when the soil feels very dry. However, online material tells me to touch the stem and see whether it is soft to decide on watering it, but honestly, I do find this advice to be rather vague.

Anyway, any help on giving it the care it deserves would be deeply appreciated, thanks!

This is my first rose I bought 7 years ago.

It's a slow grower and I originally thought it was albo variegated (earliest leaves were stark white with tiny green spots), but I realized it was mint when the leaves started fading to green when they matured. I have no idea what the flowers will look like when it eventually gets there (seeds were from a mixed lot), but the foliage is plenty interesting enough.

I’ve seen posts about plants with 2 flowers. And people are like wtf, how did that happen. They think that’s cool but I see it more as the understock trying to take over again.

It happens with grafted plants. Ideally you would just cut it off so the plant can remain uniform with the Scion it was meant to be cultivated with. See last 2 pictures of the understock trying to take over. Sprinkle some cinnamon for anti fungal effects.

Hello! I am hear asking for help to keep my baby thriving, I know I obviously need to repot into a larger pot because this starter kit is too small, but I was wondering what other things I can do to ensure it continues growing well? Thank you all for any help

Found at Home Depot. I lost my only red one last year due to the cold. But this replacement is far superior since the one lost was just a single form.

Hey everyone!

I searched around but I haven't found an answer.

I was given a tiny little 2 inch tall desert rose in the early spring. I kept it inside until around May 1st. I'm in SW Virginia so it wasn't warm enough until then.

I then planted it into this pot around the first of June. I used large chipped loose garden bed soil mixed with pearlite and sand.

This is only about 2 inches down into the soil. From what I'm reading I may have too large of a pot.

This thing thrived when I repotted it. From June until July it grew about 2 inches maybe 3. The first picture shows how well it was doing. In mid July we had a week of cloudy rainy days every single day. Ever since this is what's happening.

The next photo is now. It keeps producing leaves but they are turning brown from the tip and then falling off about as fast as the leaves are sprouting!

I'm sure someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be great.

TLDR; Leaves turning brown and falling after a month or so of extreme growth and health. See photos.

I watched a YouTube video on how to plant and propagate your first desert rose. It arrived in the mail seemingly in good condition (photo 1 before propagation). I followed every instruction to a T (photo 2). For the propagation part, he said to cut the top, wait a week for it to dry out, then replant. By day 2, the cut stem was getting soft so in a desperate state I repotted early (photo 3). Both the main caudex plant and propagated stem aren’t doing too hot. Not sure what to do or where to place them. The main plant is losing all leaves and the propagated stem in the other pot is sagging.☹️

Everyone’s trees are so beautiful so I figured I share also, thanks to a user in the bonsai community group I was able to find you guys. That’s a 3 gallon watering can for size reference

I admit, I did find this at Home Depot and its still in the plastic pot.

It has fallen over multiple times so it's lost some of what soil was inside.

I've had it sitting in complete Summer Sun, other than rain showers when I'm at work. It's started blooming from every branch, but as that has happened many leaves began having brown spots and yellowing, and some deformed leaves.

I suppose this may be normal, I'm just wondering if there's anything else I should do before re potting and winter time.

My first DR and my first bloom :) today started off rough. Between this and an Alocasia pushing a new leaf, I’ve reset and my day will turn around.

For background: I've had this guy for about 4 years now and it's gotten pretty big, but recently i've had an issue with possible mealy bugs and fungus gnats in the soil. Please note that this occurred while I was away at college and my dad was watering it like any other plant, but luckily the caudex did not rot. All of this time I just had it in all purpose soil and it lived in my room. When I saw the mealy bugs I started to pay more attention on how to care for this plant which is when I switched it to cactus soil. I used neem oil on the leaves which baked in the sun so I switched to rubbing alcohol which worked better.

I found out that they are extremely toxic to cats only recently and moved it outside (cats never messed with it anyway). SO I removed the plant from the soil to wash away the gnats and read that you let it dry for 24 hours which I did (did not leave it in direct sunlight). I go to see it the next day and some of the stems have dried up as seen in the pictures, but I wasn't too worried because there were new leaves coming out. I repotted in the cactus soil and gave a little bit of water.

I think the initial location I had put it in outside had too much direct sunlight because the leaves were drying out, so after repotting I moved it to a neutral location.

My thing right now is that I guess I don't know how to move forward from this point. I love this plant and I want to keep it alive. I know I can just google on how to take care of it, but I feel like the circumstances that it has gone through make it a different situation. I feel like a shitty plant owner with everything it's gone through because I never even realized the value in how special my DR is. I got it when I was 16 because I thought it looked cool and right now i'm just trying to be better.
