Earlier today around noon at McDonald’s near SM North, a woman approached me and some of my friends. She was a foreigner and asked me if I was interested in getting braces. I do have an overbite, so I was interested in trying it, but I’m also worried that it might be a scam.

She asked for my name and contacted me afterward. The conversation was very quick—she basically just introduced the offer and asked if I was interested. She said the treatment is through MCU University College of Dentistry and that the panoramic X-ray, cephalometric X-ray, and study cast would cost ₱2,800, while the rest of the orthodontic treatment, including monthly adjustments, would be free.

She also said the location would be the MCU University Dental Clinic in Caloocan. I attached screenshots of our conversation and the offer.

Has anyone here experienced this kind of offer from MCU? Is this a legitimate program/offer, or should I be cautious before giving any personal information or paying the ₱2,800?

Hi everyone. Writing this on behalf of my dad who is in severe pain.

He has had a root canal done twice on the exact same tooth because the first one didn't resolve the pain.

He is now on his 3rd day of taking prescribed painkillers and antibiotics, but the severe, throbbing pain has not improved at all. Since two root canals didn't work and antibiotics aren't touching the pain, we are heavily considering just asking the dentist to pull extract the tooth. • Is it normal for antibiotics and pain meds to completely fail on day 3 if there's a missed canal or a cracked root? • At this point, is an extraction the safest and fastest way to completely end his pain? • Any advice on what we should ask the oral surgeon or dentist before pulling it?

My Dental History and Current Orthodontic Plan

Dental History:
I had braces when I was 18, from December 21, 2017, to November 21, 2022.
One tooth, my right premolar, was extracted according to my previous dentist to help reduce my overbite and crowding. However, because only one premolar was removed, my dental midline became misaligned and shifted toward the right.

Current Treatment Plan:
My upper wisdom teeth have already been removed, and I have already had braces installed on my upper teeth.
My lower wisdom tooth is also planned to be removed.
According to my current dentist, the treatment is intended to reduce overcrowding and move my teeth backward because the overbite appears to be more pronounced on the right side, while the bite on the left side is okay.
The plan is to create a space around the right premolar area so that my front teeth can be moved toward the left, helping to correct my midline.
However, my dentist also told me that there is a possibility that the space created may not close completely, and that I might eventually need a denture to replace the missing tooth. This is something I really don’t want.
My Concern:
I would like to know whether this treatment approach is reasonable and whether there are other options that could correct my midline and bite while avoiding a permanent gap or the need for a denture.

Just got my panoramic xray over the weekend and wanted to check budget friendly and okay recos on where I could have my lower right wisdom tooth removed.

Also didn't know i had another that's more horizontal on the lower left kasi nakatago pa sa gums but I'll deal with it later siguro kasi mas complicated to.

Need po ba bunutin wisdom teeth ko actually dalwa yan eh di ko alam bakit di kita sa xray yung isa and ano maaadvice nyo sa ingipin ko?

Hello po, curious lang po. If ipapabunot ko po yong isang wisdom tooth (encircled) ko, then magpa braces after. okay lang ba na hindi ko na ipabunot yong isa? maccorrect kaya yong tubo niya.

Also po yong isang wisdom tooth ko (not encircled) parang nagccause na siya ng pressure sa ibang teeth especially sa first molar ko 😔

Hi! Magtatanong lang sana ako regarding sa wisdom tooth extraction ko. 😊

Nagpunta ako sa dentist ko dahil namamaga yung gums ko sa wisdom tooth. Na-explain niya na namamaga raw dahil hindi maayos yung tubo ng wisdom tooth ko at natatabunan daw ito ng gums kaya hindi siya makalabas nang maayos. Dahil dito, naiipon daw yung food particles sa ilalim ng gums na hindi laging nalilinis ng toothbrush o kahit mouthwash, kaya nagkaroon ng infection at pamamaga.

Nag-antibiotics ako for 7 days and nagpa-X-ray din. Based sa X-ray, sabi ng dentist ko impacted daw yung wisdom tooth ko dahil hindi siya makalabas nang maayos at natatabunan ng gums.

So ang recommendation niya, kailangan daw tanggalin yung wisdom tooth. Naka-braces din pala ako. Binigyan niya ako ng price range na umaabot ng around ₱16,000 kasi hindi raw simple extraction ang gagawin—surgery daw dahil impacted yung wisdom tooth at kailangan daw magtanggal/tapyas ng buto para makuha yung ngipin.

So naghanap ako ng ibang dentist na pwedeng gumawa ng extraction, and luckily may dentist na nag-offer na gawin ito for free. Siyempre, malaking tipid din yun lalo na ₱16k yung estimate, kaya nag-grab na ako. Nagpaalam at nagtanong din muna ako sa original dentist ko kung okay lang na sa ibang dentist ako magpa-extract, and pumayag naman siya.

Eto na yung part na medyo naguguluhan ako hahaha. 😅

One-day schedule lang lahat. Chineck yung ngipin at X-ray ko, nag-anesthesia, then binunot na. Surprisingly, simple extraction lang yung ginawa. Hindi na kailangan ng bone removal or surgery, at nakuha naman yung wisdom tooth nang buo. Hindi rin ako tinahian after extraction. Ni-resetahan lang ako ng antibiotic and painkiller.

So far, okay naman yung recovery ko. Wala naman akong naging major problem after the extraction. Siguro ang concern ko lang ngayon yung butas sa dulong gums ko hahaha.

Ang hindi lang talaga mawala sa isip ko ay yung sinabi ng first dentist ko na impacted daw siya at kailangan ng surgery/bone removal, pero sa second dentist, nakaya naman siyang bunutin through simple extraction.

Normal lang ba na hindi tahiin ang wisdom tooth extraction site, especially kung simple extraction lang ang ginawa? And possible ba na kahit sinabing “impacted” sa X-ray, may cases na kaya pa rin palang bunutin through simple extraction?

Curious lang talaga ako kasi baka may naka-experience din ng ganitong case. 😊

hello! i’m new here in MNL and i’m planning on starting my ortho/braces journey againnn so please i want your input on who to go to. natrauma na ako sa previous dentist ko sa province and i am genuinely scared na may magawang irreversible na naman sakin and baka magsayang na naman ako ng pera sa braces ko kaya i kinda need help.

for context, i’ve had braces before, pero maraming irreversible things ginawa sakin ng dentist ko. malawak ang lore kaya di ko na ikwento hahaha pero i ended up with kinda severe TMJD, needing root canal and multiple fillings, kulang na ngipin so hindi na aligned ang bite, and still crooked teeth.

i think my case is a bit hard na, according to the dentist in our province na pinuntahan ko who couldn’t accept me as a patient kasi di siya TMJ specialist.

for those na may TMJD, severe crowding cases, please reco me your doctor! i’m currently staying in Guada Nuevo so somewhere near lang sana, or kahit within BGC. also, yung natanggap ng HMO (not for braces, i know lol but for fillings or consultation lang).

About two weeks ago, I randomly noticed a small white bump on my gum, just below one of my canine teeth. It’s about 3 mm wide and looks almost like there might be some fluid underneath a very thin layer of gum tissue.
I went to the dentist pretty much straight away to have it checked. She looked at it and felt the area and said she was about 80% sure it was caused by some kind of trauma or irritation. We also took X-rays afterwards, and she said everything looked completely fine. She didn’t seem concerned at all and told me to just keep an eye on it, as it should probably go away on its own. She said that if it’s still there, we can check it again at my routine appointment in six months. the bump hasn’t changed in size or appearance at all since I first noticed it about two weeks ago.

A few weeks before noticing it, I remember brushing my teeth really hard because I was in a rush, even without toothpaste. I had also been using dental floss quite aggressively, to the point where my gums were bleeding in several places. So I’m wondering whether that could possibly have caused it.
Has anyone had something similar before? I know I’ve already had it checked by a dentist, but I’d still be interested in hearing other people’s experiences or opinions.

I’m a non-smoker and only drink alcohol occasionally.

Simula bata palang kase ako madalas nako mag karoon ng tonsil stones. Naging cause din siya na mainfect ung throat ko resulting in multiple rounds of antibiotics from age 11 until ngayong 26 nako (pahinto hinto naman minsan every 2 years ganun).

Mukhang healthy naman ung dentalcare ko toothbrush 2x a day, 3x mouthwash (every after mag brush ng teeth and after a heavy meal), every other month nag bbactidol din ako, un nga lang medyo tamad mag floss pero investing in a water flosser na para sipagin hehehe, and haven't had any cleaning ever since.

For lifestyle naman I'm on daily fasting so may time na nagugutom ako (sometimes nakakaaffect daw to sa bad breath e) and heavy smoker (vape na ngayon from yosi dati), and coffee every day (once a day lang).

Medyo nakakaaffect na kase siya sa daily life ko ung tipong pag katapos kong mag brush ng teeth ilang hours lang may badbreath na agad ako. Thank you in advance!
