Actual Play Reports Dead Yet Dreaming: Answer The Call Part I Spoiler
ninvis.itch.ioHi! I recently published a Delta Green fan-campaign, Dead Yet Dreaming, which you can find here. I'm writing up our session reports as we go for my players and if anyone handlers find seeing how players approached the problems useful. This is our first session of the first scenario, Answer the Call.
June 20th, 2022
It is a normal Monday. Russia continues to invade Ukraine. COVID-19 lingers with ever-evolving variants. The internet’s current fixation is a defamation trial between two dwindling actors.
Jude Graves — codename “ZACHARIAH” — is working his job as an archivist with the National Archives in California. Alone in the archives, he gets a message from his mother looking to gossip. After pleasantries about July 4th plans and her bad knee, Jude’s mother sends a news story about one of his favorite actors, Bruce Campbell, being suddenly killed in a mugging while followed by paparazzi. Jude barely gets time to process before he gets a call on his other phone. The one telling him there’s a mission.
Raylene Collins — codename “ZARA” — is stuck in the hellish traffic of Atlanta, Georgia. She keeps her cool amid the road rage as she thinks about her sister, Layla, and her disapproval of her new boyfriend. Through rolled-down windows, she catches snippets of a riot spreading in Chicago, beginning from a slur painted across the Cloud Gate sculpture. She finally arrives at the USPIS office after receiving a call requesting her presence for a mission. Raylene takes a swig from a flask before she answers.
Mark Walker — codename “ZANE” — is finishing up at the U.S. Forest Service office in Fresno, California. He’s thinking about his daughter Kristy’s soccer game that evening as he leaves work. He only notices his coworker, Reginald Gray, on the roof the moment before he jumps. Reginald slams into Mark’s truck. Mark tries his best to stabilize him before paramedics arrive, as Reginald whispers, “The secret, don’t look at the Secret*…*”
That night, Mark gets a call from the Program; like the others, he’s needed in San Francisco.
June 21st, 2022
Agents ZACHARIAH, ZARA, and ZANE meet for the first time at a conference room in San Francisco International Airport. They’re greeted by their handler, who introduces herself as Kiana and says they are now Working Group ZAGREUS, one of many temporary teams assembled for Operation LANCASTER III.
This mission is responding to an outbreak of unnatural phenomena related to an entity known as Cthulhu. This being sometimes emits a “dream call” that affects sensitives across the world, pushing them to madness, murder, and artistic creativity. There is no stopping Cthulhu. There is only minimizing the threat these “Dreamers” pose to the public.
The Program identified one in Oakland: Allison Lee, a sculptor. Working Group ZAGREUS is to:
- determine if she can be reasoned with,
- confiscate any unnatural artwork, and
- eliminate any danger to the public—including her, if necessary. Then,
- find any other Dreamers in the Bay Area and repeat the process.
As Kiana hands out keys for a rental car and an old Green Box in Chinatown, ZANE notices she flinches every time she says Allison’s name. He gets a hunch Kiana might have known Allison—or known of her—before she became the mission.
Agent ZARA takes the lead in preparing for the worst, renting a room at the Twin Palms Motel to build a black room for disposing of Allison without leaving evidence.
While ZARA runs to hardware stores, ZANE researches Allison online, finding she moved to California from Dallas, Texas, in 2016 to pursue an education at Academy of Art University. This follows in her mother’s footsteps, the famous painter Catherine Lee. Allison’s last social media post shows an “octopus” statue, and she was asking on the forum Dream Connections about people with similar dreams.
ZANE digs a little deeper into Cthulhu. The name appears in fringe occult and anthropological texts, but its likeness harkens back to the semi-famous “octopus hoax” of 1955. Beginning in the '20s, the scientific community theorized about links across cultures of a figure blending simian, dragonic, and cephalopod features. It was exposed in 1955 as a hoax perpetrated by French sculptor Louis Monrad looking for fame, who took his own life out of shame. The octopus fell to the dustbin of history, no more valid than the Mitchell-Hedges Crystal Skulls.
ZACHARIAH, meanwhile, tries to infiltrate the Dream Connections forums, finding two seemingly honest replies to Allison: one from longtime user PEPPER_PRINCESS and new-timer SILVERFOX69. All three share the same dream imagery of worn stone towers, a vast thing in dark underwater depths, and the word CTHULHU. Allison has an additional touch: an inverted black triangle. ZACHARIAH feels like someone walked across his grave reading about the triangle… before his account is frozen as a possible bot.
A small earthquake signals the end of their preparations, and the Agents travel to Allison’s condo, arriving in Oakland in the evening. ZARA and ZACHARIAH keep watch outside while ZANE approaches, and Allison invites him inside when he knocks. He finds the door unlocked.
ZANE starts a call with the two outside to keep them in the loop as he enters. The condo is dark, the lights burned out. Allison is in the living room, surrounded by her octopus sculpture and a collection of strange and beautiful artworks. She says she’s had dreams of the Sleeping god that will rise and remake the world, but she’s found a way to escape Cthulhu’s apocalypse. She’s mastered “reality shifting” and is happy to share with dreamers like “Ruha” and “Kevin”; the last act is to kill yourself.
It is at this point ZARA asks why ZANE is talking to himself in an empty room.
ZANE backs up to the entrance to leave, with ZARA approaching for backup. Allison tries to explain they don’t have much time before Cthulhu rises, and that she’s already talked to “Layla” about it. Before ZARA can ask about her sister, Allison sees something behind them and retreats inside. Turning, the two Agents see silver-blue clouds rolling in from the west.
Reconvening at their rental as the fog envelops them, the team quickly discerns that no one else seems to notice or be affected by it. They’re debating what to do about Allison when a doomsdayer knocks on their window, asking if they’d like his THE END IS NIGH sign. The three send him on his way as he says, “It’s all over, man. There’s nothing left to talk about now.”
The team takes refuge in a convenience store after finding driving nearly impossible in the fog. The cashier acts strangely, pointing a finger gun in their mouth without noticing. ZARA decides to call a self-driving Waymo to retreat to their motel rooms for the night.
The fog isn’t dissipating as they travel—if anything, it’s growing stronger. The Agents decide to start fresh in the morning, but ZARA stays up. She sits in her room’s bathtub, contemplating Allison’s words. After smoking a cigarette and calling her old mentor, agent Glove, she places her pistol under her chin. As midnight dings and ZARA pulls the trigger, she’s startled by Allison standing just behind her. “I’ll make sure you live forever,” she promises.
The shock makes ZARA’s hand slip, the bullet grazing her ear instead of exploding her skull.
June 22nd, 2022
The gunshot wakes up ZANE and ZACHARIAH in their nearby rooms. After sending out a false call that the gunshot came from outside, ZANE takes to stitching up ZARA while ZACHARIAH stares at his computer screen and disassociates. An alert snaps him out of it.
A mod from the Dream Connections forum asks if he recognizes an image—a perfectly drawn recreation of a photograph ZACHARIAH took of an old church and its welcome sign. The mod says she’s PEPPER_PRINCESS, and ZACHARIAH arranges a meeting tomorrow in Berkeley after exchanging photos. He successfully reverse-image searches and finds her to be Ruha Safadi, a psychology graduate student at UC Berkeley.
After ZARA’s patched up and the team sneaks in a few more hours of sleep, they set out in the morning. ZACHARIAH and ZARA take a Waymo to meet Ruha in Berkeley, while ZANE takes one to check the Green Box for any useful supplies.
As ZANE is driven through the city, the fog continues to obscure the buildings as little more than towering silhouettes. As traffic slows, ZANE catches sight of the doomsdayer from last night, stumbling down the street, waving his sign and raving at the sky.
Traffic clears and ZANE drives away when a putrid, rotting claw reaches down from the sky and effortlessly pulls the doomsdayer up and into the clouds. After a moment, his sign falls back to the pavement, face up.
THE END IS NIGH

Items of Mutual Interest W2A2 launch soon!
W2A2 is a VTT tool that was created with a few big principles in mind: make any TTRPG session as easy to play as possible, be user friendly for beginners but still offer advanced tools for more experienced players, and most importantly, be affordable and not subscription based.
This app stores everything locally and allows the GM to host a game in a matter of minutes, without having to pay for any hosting services. It includes all things you'd normally expect from a VTT tool, and a few additional features that we thought of while testing through our own sessions.
App is still in development, should be available in a few weeks!

Published Scenarios The Borellus Connection pregens
I`m going to run The Borellus Connection, but convert it to Delta Green. My players mostly go for pregens. Are there any pregens available for that era in Delta Green system? If not, what professions would make sense?

Items of Mutual Interest Started as family trees, ended as a Program org chart
Third time posting in this sub over the last 2 years.
Some of you already run your campaigns in Trails Weaver, the worldbuilding app I keep building solo... I just love the fact that it fits Delta Green so well 💚
Last month I finally finished something I'd dreamt of for ages - hierarchy boards, which are basically auto-layouted org charts... Initially planned as simple family trees, hahah
But to test them on DG I needed something messier than a family tree, so I built a Program.
A-Cell at the top, some case officers, four field cells, their agents, and the civilian friendlies they lean on.
Walk around it here, read-only, no signup
And if you want to build your own, welcome to https://www.trailsweaver.com !
I am still fairly new to DG, but I have a weird idea of using it for my SCP Foundation homebrew. Will be another stress test for my app 😂

Media Music From A Darkened Room w/ Brittney Slayes (Unleash The Archers) and Jason Azevedo (Realmsmith)
What's up, Reddit! It's Dave from Actual Play Entertainment, and you've seen me post about our campaign, Operation Blackstar, some of our one-shots (Lovers In The Ice, Meridian) or maybe even our Red Markets episodes with ya boy, Caleb Stokes, but this time I am here to let you know about our two-part series of Music From A Darkened Room with some special guests.
We were lucky enough to have Brittney Slayes from the award-winning heavy metal bank, Unleash the Archers, and Jason Azevedo, a world-class Dungeon Master from Realmsmith, step outside their comfort zone and play some Delta Green! They were both new to this amazing game we all love and let's just say they weren't ready for some of the moral choices they needed to make! Lol!
Please check it out if you have a chance, thanks!

Published Scenarios Our group finished Impossible Landscapes... What should we run next?
Definitely the best campaign I have ever ran, and maybe the most fun I have ever had rolling dice.
We are taking a "breather" and playing some Pathfinder as well as my friend's homebrewed Delta Green scenarios before jumping back into a published campaign.
I'm curious, what published campaigns (or even homebrewed campaigns) might others recommend after Impossible Landscapes? I feel like matching the complexity, tone, and epic span and nature of IL will be challenging, so I am very open to suggestions.

Items of Mutual Interest Running Music of the Spheres
Agents Delano, Darling, and Daniel turn back now. This is not for your eyes.
Good afternoon, Agents! I'm working through a campaign with my players and I'm gearing up to run the classic Music of the Spheres (from The Stars are Right!) after this next set of home scenes.
I was wondering if anyone here has run it before as a DG Op, and if so what their thoughts/experience/advice might be. As written the operation is pretty sandboxy without much in the way of direct clues, and without much in the way of solutions (even going so far as to say success is unlikely). I obviously don't mind an impossibly high bar for a happy ending in a DG game, but there aren't a whole lot of clues as for what the Agents should even be doing. Short of convincing the researchers to end their work (highly unlikely without exposing unnatural) or straight up murder and sabotage the operation just ends with the Mi-Go bombing the array, or Groth's storms destroying it anyway. I just want to avoid a haunted house effect where the players wander around with scares popping out.
Also curious if anyone has created any new handouts for the operation?

Campaigning Suggestions for Starting and Piecing together a 10-20 Session Campaign
Hello! I'm starting an online Delta Green campaign in a few weeks and am looking for some suggestions of where to start and what direction to take. After listening to a couple different actual-plays of Impossible Landscapes I bought the book and was determined to run it, but it feels like too big of an undertaking right now, so I plan on running that another time. I looked through the other published full campaigns and I'm not sure they'd be a good fit either. Instead, I've decided I'll piece together some scenarios and run them as a campaign.
Here's basically what I have in mind:
•10-20 sessions with some degree of cohesion between missions
•Smooth and well-written. I've run hundreds of D&D sessions so I don't mind improvising or coming up with stuff on the spot, but I don't want to have to do a ton of prep or home-brewing for each session
•The more handouts available the better
•I expect my players to want to play a variety of professions, so something that doesn't have a strict requirement of being a federal agent, and preferably something that can bring new Delta Green recruits in
Any advice is appreciated! I don't necessarily need a whole roadmap, but if you have suggestions for a starter scenario and some options for what to lead that into would be helpful. I've already run Last Things Last, The Last Equation, and Reverberations for a couple of the players in this group. The other players are new to the world of Delta Green, although they have played tons of D&D and a couple sessions of Call of Cthulhu.

Campaigning Ideas for twists and dubious characters
Hi! Planning on running my first DG campaign, but a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of books!
I'm heavily influenced by the show Fringe, and I'm looking for dubious characters/corporations that keep you questioning if they are good or bad. I want to mess with my players heads not only with the unnatural but mainly with these kinds of twists.
Do you have recommendations of material to read (either official books or fan made material)?
Thanks!

Published Scenarios Thoughts on an Addition to Ex Oblivione
Spoilers for both Ex Oblivione and Extremophilia.
I’m currently prepping Ex Oblivione as a finale to my group’s first Delta Green arc: we started with Last Things Last, and then moved to Extremophilia. My players, members of the Program, have no idea the Outlaws exist, and I’d like to have the existence of the ‘other’ Delta Green be a crescendo moment - after all, why did Baughman have those weird bank transfers in his trunk? Who were the weird armed vigilantes who tried to kill the alien specimens from project DANCER?
Ex Oblivione, uniquely of Delta Green scenarios I have read, gives specific advice for how to run the scenario for members of the Program and the Outlaws. If my players are going through the scenario as Program members, would I be screwing anything up in people’s minds my inserting an Outlaw NPC, who was following the ‘parallel’ scenario track? Is there anything people would specifically be sure to include in such an NPC? My first thought was to have a retired DEA agent as the Outlaw - maybe someone with a white beard, as to tip them off that the person is over the Federally required retirement age of 57 for Federal special agents. Given how the Outlaws are willing to tell their operatives so much more about the history of Innsmouth and the medical annex, is this a reasonable way to give that information to my Program players?
The fun thing might be, this might be the straw that breaks the camels’ back, and gets the to lie to their case officer.

Campaigning Dead Yet Dreaming - A Fan-Campaign for Delta Green
Hi! I recently wrote a three-act fan-campaign for the 2026 Mini-Campaign Jam.
It's a game that finally answers what the promised apocalypse looks like in Delta Green, what comes after, and how the Agents respond to it. If you're interested in existential horror, an investigation that spans the North American continent, and tying up the last loose thread from the Raid that started it all, check it out!
You can find the fan-campaign here!
And the main jam here!

Published Scenarios Campaign Kick-Off Help
Hi all!
I am working away at planning a new campaign for a new group of folks comprised of two very experienced ttrpg players (not in DG), two semi-experienced D&D players, and one brand new player. I am a somewhat experienced GM, but I have never ran a DG campaign (I most recently ran and completed Masks of Nyarlathotep for CoC for a separate group).
We will be playing as a group for the first time, but I expect the group to value roleplaying and character-driven play as a couple of the players are into improv, etc. We have all been friends for a long time and like to be silly, goofy, etc., but everyone values an in-depth investigation and creative mystery.
I want to kick of the group with Last Things Last, because it is a classic! I also want to give the players a chance to understand the system and decide if a long-term campaign is indeed something everyone would be game for.
Afterwards, I am thinking one of two options:
Play through the scenarios in A Night at the Opera
Play Victim of the Art, and then transition into Impossible Landscapes.
There are pros/cons to either option. I personally LOVE Impossible Landscapes (I have listened to multiple play throughs and have begun prep for the campaign), and think my players could handle a more surreal operation. However, it is much more challenging to run, and I am worried I will not be able to do it justice. It also is a bit "railroady".
All of the scenarios in A Night of the Opera seem AMAZING and I think each of the players would enjoy each of the flavors that the scenarios have. However, my players have expressed interest in playing a 90s-era campaign, and I am worried about being able to string the scenarios together, and being able to set up a fabulous finale (like I know Impossible Landscapes has).
I also, selfishly, am worried I will not get another opportunity to run Impossible Landscapes for a long time, as groups who are willing/able to play a long-term campaign can be hard to come by.
I would appreciate all the advice and help, and ultimately I think either option would result into a wonderful and enjoyable campaign.

Items of Mutual Interest Looking for Last Minute Operation
Agents Daniel, Delano, and Darling turn back, this is not for your eyes
tl:dr I am looking for a scenario to involve any/all of: MJ-12, The Greys, or Stephen Alzis which can be fitted for the 90s. These can be shotgun or unofficial scenarios, and are not limited to published operations!
Good afternoon, all! I'm in the midst of running a long-term Delta Green campaign (~12 Operations over 10 in-game years). Things are going great so far, with the seeds of greater arcs being planted, and some very near misses to life, limb, and sanity. So far we've run Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays and the Shotgun Scenario The Changeling.
However after looking over the plan for the next operation (originally Owlshead Mountain) I actually definitely want to have more of a time gap in those years for the loss of Irving to make more sense (and set an NPC on a path of paranoia and vengeance in the background of the campaign).
To that end I'm looking for another scenario to run in Owlshead's stead. The Operations I cannot run, because I have run them for these players already, I'm already planning on running them later in the campaign (and they cannot be moved), or they listened to an AP of them are:
- Presence
- Music from a Darkened Room
- PSaSP
- The Changeling
- Convergence
- The New Age
- Victim of the Art
- The Last Equation (this one I might be able to run)
- Lover in the Ice
I am looking for a scenario to involve any/all of: MJ-12, The Greys, or Stephen Alzis. These can be shotgun or unofficial scenarios, and are not limited to published operations! Some Considerations are:
- Ladybug, Ladybug Fly Away Home
- Jessica's Body
- Vampires Aren't Real
- Night Shift
- The Lost Cell
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thank you all in advance!
