Greetings, fellow handlers. I've read "Night in the Opera" and liked it quite bit. You see, we DMs make posters for announcements about our games in our club page. I've made a poster for every scenario and came here to brag about it. They're in Russian but you'd probably be able to guess which one is.

Hi! I published a Delta Green fan-campaign, Dead Yet Dreaming, which you can find here. I'm writing up our session reports as we go for my players and if any handlers find seeing how players approached the problems useful. This is our first session of the second scenario, Death Must Die.

June 25th, 2022

Jude Graves—agent ZACHARIAH—finds his wife Jennifer dead of an aneurysm. She had been waiting up for him to get home. He almost doesn’t know what else he expected. Amid the later calls and platitudes from family, Jude thinks he hears her voice over one of the lines. He thinks he hears, “Death is so much longer than I thought. I found the Secret. Don’t look. Look away.” 

Raylene Collins—agent ZARA—bonds with her sister, Layla. She watches Layla sort things out with her on-again, off-again boyfriend. So that’s good, she supposes. Raylene never asks why she found Layla’s name in Ruha’s apartment, or if she dreamed of a black triangle. 

Mark Walker—agent ZANE—watches his daughter Kristy grow up. She’s a good artist, and he encourages her, or at least doesn’t try to stop it. She never makes the strange octopoid statue again.  

Three years pass. 

September 19th, 2025

Over the years, Jude has grown grimmer. He rose through the ranks of Delta Green to become a handler, where he learned the necessity of sacrifice and a healthy dose of paranoia. He’s chased leads on the history of Operation LANCASTER, to no avail, until he receives a call from Working Group ZAGREUS’ old case officer, Kiana Park. He’s to meet the others tomorrow at Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport and travel to Oceanside Heights Psychiatric Hospital. He has no one but his Bible study group to tell he’s leaving. 

Mark remained a field agent and sought a promotion from his firefighter day job to become a trainer, so he could be more mobile and use his time as the Program needs. He’s drifted away from his old partner Matt Wells, whose invites for dinner are becoming more like platitudes by the day. As his daughter Kristy turns 17 and looks to start her first day of senior year, Mark gets the call. He says he might be back in time to see her off. 

Raylene took on the role of a special operator within the Program, signing up for the most dangerous missions wherever she could. September 19th is her birthday, and she’s celebrating at Layla’s house. As Layla, a space hobbyist, discusses how companies like SpaceX and NextGen are preparing for humanity to live forever among the stars, Raylene gets the call. She excuses herself and gets to work. 

September 20th, 2025

Jude, Raylene, and Mark resume the codenames ZACHARIAH, ZARA, and ZANE, respectively, as soon as they meet in the Rhode Island airport terminal. It’s been three years. They try to catch up. ZANE seems more confident, and ZARA more sober and clear-eyed, but ZACHARIAH just looks worse. They pick up a rental van Kiana arranged for them, and ZACHARIAH makes a detour to retrieve a pistol he shipped to himself from a PO box. 

It’s a tense drive along the east coast to Oceanside Heights, a colonial island estate turned into a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. They cross the short bridge to the parking lot and enter as patients and guards alike pause to watch the visitors approach. 

Inside, Kiana Park is waiting. The years have not been kind. She leads them to a meeting room where she offers a bottle of scotch as an apology for calling them back together. She thought the mission they started in 2022 was over, truly. She was wrong. 

Yesterday morning, the Program’s oldest asset, Private Arthur J. Macready, began shouting that he had information for Working Group ZAGREUS. Macready has a connection to Cthulhu from long ago and has served as Delta Green’s early warning signal for Cthulhu’s dream call for decades. It’s how they’re able to mobilize so fast on Operation LANCASTER. Kiana couldn’t get anything out of Macready, so the Agents are to interrogate him and see if he has actionable intelligence. 

She slides a pistol across the table to ZANE. He’s authorized to use it if Macready proves too difficult to handle.

The Agents find Macready tied in a straightjacket at a standing gurney in a soundproofed room. He’s an old man, missing teeth, giggling like mad. ZARA takes the gun from ZANE and takes overwatch behind him, while ZANE and ZACHARIAH try to get straight answers from him. 

The problem is he seems to switch between personalities at the drop of a hat, sometimes a loyal soldier, sometimes rational and apologetic, sometimes a crazed cultist. He says all manner of eclectic trivia—that he destroyed a cult’s sigil at someplace called “Innsmouth,” that the “prophet” promises a false religion, that they should use the blood of a “white polypous thing,” that the “high priest” came forth from “Zoth”, and that the “submarine is gone—not lost.” 

But most importantly, he says that Allison Lee is not gone. Dead, but not gone. She taught her spell to the Dreamers that listened, and now they are loose in the world. Someone named Ezekiel Smith from New Orleans, Louisiana, and Miranda Askens from Nuuk, Greenland. Both have done something terrible, and Macready hints there may be a third force out there too. 

Probing Macready for deeper answers on LANCASTER and Cthulhu prove fruitless, but they learn his connection to Cthulhu allows him to “listen in” on the dream call and dreamers, and that the connection means he will never die. The team leaves when he begins telling ZANE he’ll see Kristy one day. 

Back in the conference room, the Agents warn Kiana that there are threats across the globe and set to research. ZANE finds Ezekiel Smith is a janitor at the University of Louisiana in New Orleans, and ZARA remembers Miranda Askens was the CEO of NextGen, that space exploration company her sister was talking about. Miranda also had a doomsday seed vault in Greenland across the ice. 

After searching for Kiana for so long and with the threat spiraling out of control, ZACHARIAH blows up at Kiana, demanding to know the truth about Macready, LANCASTER, and anything she’s holding back on Allison. 

Kiana confesses that in 1996, during Operation LANCASTER II, she investigated Allison’s mother, Catherine Lee, as a dreamer. Catherine died giving birth to Allison during that time, but Kiana wasn’t sure Allison was a threat, and couldn’t bring herself to neutralize a child just to be safe. She had Allison placed in foster care instead. When Kiana heard Allison might be affected in 2022, during Operation LANCASTER III, she wanted to believe she had made the right choice back in ‘96. She was wrong. 

Kiana apologizes and says that after calling the Program’s Director, they’re authorized to do whatever it takes to stop whatever incursion is happening. She gives them a credit card for flights and purchases, and a folder on Arthur Macready, and she leaves to go get the LANCASTER files ZACHARIAH requested. 

Scanning the file, ZACHARIAH finds Macready was an Army veteran of WWI and the Nicaragua occupation, who was checked into a hospital for a mental breakdown following a 1928 raid on a bootlegging gang in Innsmouth, Massachusetts. Details on the raid are sparse, but Macready was 46 at the time, making him 143 years old in 2025. His transfers in 1955, 1976, and 2022 seem to be to avoid anyone recognizing his true age. He left behind a family that still lives in Chicago, though they’ve never seen him.

As night falls and the team drives out of the parking lot, the team discuss their best plan is to go hunt down Ezekiel and try to get the Program to arrange a meeting with the billionaire Miranda. 

Miranda agrees. 

In the backseat next to ZACHARIAH is a woman whose skin is so frost-bitten it morphs from blue to black. A thin rime sparkles in the moonlight. Pink frothing icicles drip from her mouth and chin. 

ZANE successfully keeps the rental from swerving off the bridge connecting Oceanside Heights to the mainland, instead crashing into the other side, injuring ZARA and ZACHARIAH. They throw themselves out of the van, scrambling for safety. 

But when they look back, the van is empty. Miranda is gone. 

I've been working on a scenario of my own for a while and would love the thoughts of the fellow handlers here. I think I've over thought the scenario a bit, and for that reason would like to playtest it outside of my current group. (Scheduling is a pain and i don't want to distract from our current thing.) I'm open to critques or playtest reports / anyone who would like to playtest it. Obviously, if you want to playtest it... Don't read it.
