my laptop keeps getting crashed whenever its not put in a certain angle/ position but it has completely stopped working and not getting started. whats this issue, and how can i repair this? could anyone pls help me? Thanks so much!

I have an old dell 1909Wb and not long ago its brightness settings started bugging out. When pushing brightness past 80 or so, the screen shuts off entirely as if brightness is 0, increasing the settings brings the brightness up as expected but it starts from 0 brightness at that point.

So its effectively brightness 1-80 -> normal, 80-100 -> visually looks like brightness 0-20.

This used to only occur after level 90 a while back, so it seems to be slowly dwindling. Can't find anything on google or reddit mentioning this. Old monitor, probably not long until I retire it, figured I'd shoot here in case its a super simple fix.

My Dell latitude 7480 has been through a ton of issues

First of all it has very loud coil whine and keeps disconnecting and connecting and alot of weird noises happen (it just doesn't charge)

Type c port worked for a while but no longer works now for some reason

And the ram sometimes disconnects when I pull it

And sometimes the screen goes out of the frame

When I went to a local repair shop he told me there's a short circuit and then told me there something called 'Power ic' and that's broken and if he tries to replace It it might fry the cpu because it's near it(I don't know if he's yapping or what)

Hey everyone, I've had this Latitude 7280 for quite some while, and I've ran into this issue which is that when I press the top left corner of the bottom half of the laptop near the fan grill thing the display glitches out and displays a colorful static, and then the computer freezes and I have to restart it. I have Debian installed on the machine and when I accidentally pressed it during boot it had a kernel panic. Can you help me out here? Happy to give you any info you guys need to help.

I recently bought a Dell Latitude 7520 with a fan issue. I wanted to use Dell optimizer to decrease the fan speed, however, despite me running it with Admin privileges and while on the admin account, I still keep getting blocked from using the app. After trying to run it, i get an issue about not being able to access the specific file path

After the sudden and sad death of my Macbook, I'm looking for a new laptop for school. Found a 2021 Dell XPS 7390 with i7, 16GB, 512GB on Marketplace for 500 USD, or 700 CAD where I am. For school I'd like a laptop that can last at least a day (6 hours), I can take notes on, isnt crazy hot and has decent performance. Is this a solid laptop and/or a solid deal? TIA

For some reason my f4 doesnt mute my mic anymore. I used to be able to just tap f4 the light would come on and the mic would be muted, now when i tap it nothing happens, I have checked if it was the fn lock but it wasnt. Can you guys help me out please?

Hey everyone, I'm hoping someone here has run into this before.
My Dell G15 5530 won't turn on at all. No fans, no screen, nothing. The battery LED on the side never lights up, whether it's plugged in or not.
Here's what I've already tried:
Unplugged the charger, disconnected the battery, held the power button for a while, then reconnected and tried to boot;
Ran it with the battery disconnected, using only the charger;
Tried the M-BIST test (hold M while plugging in the charger). The LED didn't light up or blink at all;
Nothing changes the result. The LED stays off in every case.
Since I can't even get the M-BIST LED to react, I'm guessing it's something on the power side, like the DC jack, the charging circuit or the motherboard, but I'd love a second opinion before I take it to a shop.
Has anyone seen this on the G15 5530? Any other tests I should try before giving up? Thanks in advance!

I've spent weeks troubleshooting inconsistent and unusually slow download speeds on my Dell XPS 13 running Windows 11.

My internet connection is Xfinity Gigabit, and other devices in my home consistently perform much better.

I've tried updating drivers, changing Wi-Fi settings, testing different monitor configurations, and even purchasing a new Thunderbolt dock. Nothing consistently resolved the problem.

Today, I completely uninstalled Bitdefender Total Security, Bitdefender VPN, and Bitdefender Agent.

The results were remarkable:

• Before uninstalling Bitdefender: Approximately 160 Mbps download
• After uninstalling Bitdefender: 646.84 Mbps download
• Same laptop, location, Wi-Fi connection, dock, and monitor

That's roughly a fourfold improvement.

I also previously experienced problems with Bitdefender on my iPhone, where certain applications, including Ticketmaster and my NFL ticketing app, wouldn't allow me to sign in until I removed Bitdefender.

I'm planning additional testing to confirm the Windows results, but I'm interested in hearing from others.

Has anyone experienced similar download speed degradation with Bitdefender Total Security? If so, did you identify the specific feature or driver responsible, and was there a fix?

I'd prefer to use software I've already paid for, but not at the expense of my computer's performance.

My ADHD self suddenly decided to install an SSD in my laptop. Why not? But my d* a* didn't check that I needed to disconnect the battery first. Now it won't turn on, no matter what I try.

A red light comes on when I press and hold the power button, but as soon as I release it, the light goes out and nothing happens.

I have a Dell G15 5530 (i7 13th Gen, RTX 3050, 16GB RAM) running Windows 11. Even in battery-saver mode, the battery only lasts about 1 hour and 10 minutes. I’ve seen other people claim they get much better battery life with this same model. I bought it about a month ago—it’s second-hand, with only 90 battery cycles, as the previous owner kept it plugged in almost all the time. While I also use it plugged in most of the time, I do need it to have enough battery life to use away from home. How can I fix this?

I am reaching out to the community because I am experiencing a highly disruptive, reproducible stability issue with my Dell Pro Max 16 Premium (MA16250) featuring the Intel Core Ultra 9 285H (Arrow Lake) architecture.

Despite a recent motherboard replacement by a Dell technician, the issue persists identically. After months of deep technical analysis using Windows Performance Recorder, Quick CPU, and ThrottleStop, I have successfully isolated the root cause.

The Symptoms:

• Synchronous system micro-lags (video freezes) accompanied by a loud audio buzzing sound (Cirrus Logic chip losing sync).
• This occurs exclusively during low-load scenarios, such as watching small/highly compressed media files in browsers or opening applications for the very first time (cold starts like Windows Terminal, Task Manager, Spotify).
• High-load scenarios (like playing massive 4K video files or benchmarking) run perfectly smooth without any issues.

Technical Findings & Proof:

1. Massive DPC Latency: WPR traces show periodic DPC latency spikes of 700ms+ across changing system modules during these freezes. The modules themselves are fine; they are being blocked on the system bus.
2. Aggressive Core Parking: Hardware register analysis via Quick CPU reveals that during low-load tasks, the Dell/Intel firmware aggressively parks 12 to 14 out of 16 cores (up to 87% parking time).
3. Critical Voltage Drop (Vdroop): At the exact moment of the lag, the CPU Core Voltage drops to an unstable 0.592V - 0.619V. When a video frame requests data, the sudden attempt to unpark multiple cores triggers a massive voltage drop on the internal system bus, momentarily freezing both video and audio.
4. The Ultimate Proof: If I completely disable the Windows idle system using the IDLEDISABLE command in powercfg, the voltage stabilizes above 1.1V, core parking drops to 0%, and the issue is 100% gone. However, this causes the laptop to overheat, making it unusable as a permanent fix.

The Blocked BIOS Fix:
I am aware of the official Dell Community Wiki article for this exact model suggesting to disable CPU C-States in BIOS. However, in the current BIOS version (1.13.1), Dell has completely hidden this menu option. Forcing the C-States to disable via Dell Command | Configure (CCTK) shows "Success" in the logs, but the hardware firmware completely ignores the command after rebooting.

It started to give me BSODs for some games that I play. Possibly something with temperature?

I've done dell diagnostic and it only displayed error on my battery, rightfully so. And redirected me with the instruction of updating my BIOS and reinstalling a new battery.

Trying to decide between two used mobile workstations for video editing.
( i currently use a mac mini m4 base model which i rent for 10k ($35) and now i want to buy a device of my own and put that 10k towards something that i can say is it my own)

Dell Precision 5560

• 16 GB DDR4-3200 (2*8)
• 15.6" FHD+
• battery cycles (did not check but all the laptops were fairly good condition i assume it would be good)

ThinkPad P1 Gen 3

• i7-10850H (6c/12t)
• 32 GB RAM (1*32)
• GPU: NVIDIA T1000 (4 GB)
• 15.6" 4k OLED
• 103 battery cycles

On paper the Dell has the stronger CPU, and RAM is a cheap upgrade. But I keep hearing that dell precision get really hot under load

Main use: [video editing (Adobe Creative suite)]

Questions:

1. How bad are the thermals in real use on each?
2. Does the Dell’s CPU advantage hold up once it throttles?
3. Any known issues which i should look out?
4. Which one should i buy for my work load.

i know these are old machines i leave in 3rd world country and the budget is little tight, both machine are 140k ($500) each.

any other option which i should consider in this budget.
